Week in Review: Week 173
I don’t remember. Ha. Seriously.
I remember the night I came home (oh! from “acrylic pour” painting! I remembered!) late and my apartment was all squishy and hot from humidity. I set up my tower fan but there’s not a GOOD spot for it so it blew right in my face all night, keeping me awake.
I remember the day I was excited cuz I got to up the dosage of wellbutrin and I thought “maybe NOW I’ll feel some difference.” But so far nothing. Have I ever told y’all how drug resistant I am? I think some people think I made that up, but truth.
I remember going into the city after work Friday to see my niece who’s in town for a couple days for work.
I guess maybe I do remember a little. Mostly the pictures help me remember.
So, let’s go to the pictures!
Sunday I was still desperate to find a dress for the Midsummer’s Eve shoot that was scheduled to go up on Tuesday! I had found a white dress online that I liked but it wouldn’t arrive on time, and who knows how it would have fit anyway…so I was forced into actual stores. Ugh. So much trying on. That exhausts me.
Hey, as long as I was going into the fitting room anyway, I grabbed a few other things. Nothing worked except the Midsummer’s Eve dress. Score!
Monday OOTD – nothing fancy or special, but cool and comfy on a hot humid day. Tencel dress and linen blouse.
I read this book, which I do not recommend.
The Match Made in Seven shoot was Monday evening after work. We had fun and there was lots of laughing. And bloopers.
Tuesday night I met a friend for dinner and then to an “acrylic pour” art class. It was wild. And MESSY. Too messy for me. I found other ways of doing this on YouTube that are not nearly as messy as this was, so I may do something similar again.
Teacher, explaining.
My creation.
Heat did finally hit Long Island. And my cool, cavelike apartment is starting to warm up. I’ll need to put the ac in soon. I’ve held off as long as I can cuz the rent will go up $50/month once I start using it. Ugh.
After the buggy, foot-slashing, unfocused photo shoot, I passed this on my way home. I know Iris likes this spot.
Thursday night I packed for a little overnight trip into the city to visit with my niece who was in NYC for a few days for work. Janey thought she was going.
I’ve lived in NY for 50 years and have never stayed overnight in the city before.
We went to a comedy show in Greenwich Village and dinner in Little Italy then back to the hotel. In bed by 10. Girls Gone Wild.
Saturday was brunch, looking in shops, and pedicures and foot massages.
I saw this book and thought of our friend Julia.
I dropped my niece at the airport late in the afternoon then headed home through a thunderstorm.
On Sunday I slept late and read. THIS book I highly recommend. I put it off for so long, even though others were telling me how much they liked it, because it was described as a murder mystery and that is not my thing. In reality, that was a very small part of the story, and it was otherwise lovely. I give it two thumbs up.
And I’M ON VACATION!!! Yahoo. I have no firm plans for the week, which is just how I like it. I’m not making a list.
I’m going to try not to make a list.
If I make a list it will be short.
Wish me luck!
Nancy
O enjoy Bettye! I wish you a wonderful vacation. How long do you have yours? And what is that with the rent???? $50 xtra for using a ac?? That’s rude!
bettyewp
Thanks, Nancy. I have one week now and another week at the end of August. I pretty much have a week off every other month (except Oct-Dec, but there’s the 4-day Thanksgiving weekend in there and a couple 3-day bank holiday weekends). And it’s all I can do to make it from vacation to vacation! Ha, it may be rude but it’s not uncommon to charge more during the summer months for ac. And I’ve held off as long as I can, but now the humidity is seeping in and the ac will dry that out. Today is rent day, I’ll see if they ask for it (maybe they forgot, ha ha).

I can’t believe you’ve never stayed in the city. I remember our first time hearing all the horns blaring!! To me it’s such a blast (even though we go to bed early too!!).
We will be out there the end of August with friends. If you have time to meet us one day, Rob and I would LOVE that. I know you work, so if you can’t swing it I understand. We don’t have a firm itinerary yet…but email me if you want to try to set something up!! (jodie@jtouchofstyle.com)
I loved your art creation, but I’m not a messy girl either.
My stepmom loved that crawdad book…I guess I’ll have to join the majority and read it soon!! Right now I’m reading Nightengale, and considering it’s LONGGGGG, it’ll be awhile.

Well, I can drive into the city in just over an hour(ish), so the expense of a hotel never seemed worthy. But it was sure nice to not have to be thinking ahead to the drive home at the end of the night…and to wake up in the morning and be Right There.
I’m on vacation again in the end of August! Definitely keep me in the loop! I would love to meet up with you guys (or, as we say here in NY “you’s guys.” Well, *I* don’t say that, but…).
I loved The Nightingale, although I can’t really remember the story! This is how I sometimes accidentally read books twice!
Are you in AZ now?
Susan
OMG! Nightingale is one of my top ten favorite novels! Enjoy, Jodie, it’s such a compelling read. I am two hours from the city, and am also free at the end of August. I adore the city, and could meet there if you also keep me in the loop. NYC AND the chance to meet two of my fave bloggers???
It sounds like so much fun!

Love the painting! Important question — did you buy the little crown? I mean, I can tell that it wouldn’t really stay on a person’s head, but Love that! I have a tiara collection. In my opinion, every girl requires at least one tiara.
bettyewp
I did not buy that darling crown, it was hundreds of dollars! The store was filled with amazing treasures but things were SO expensive! Just for me to look at, not to have 🙂 Oh, the store is John Derian if you want to look at their website or Instagram.
But don’t you worry, I DO have a tiara! It’s vintage, 50s I believe, not terribly fancy, but that suits me. I bought it back in my ebay-selling days…and it’s one of the few things of mine that my daughter actually wants.

I’m sorry it has to add to B’s rent costs but in my area, electricity is so expensive, $50 would be a bargain!
Ashley
Good luck on that not-list-making goal, lol. I am horrible at this- I always have a list! Haha.
Your girls trip into the city looked fun! And I could really go for a pedicure + foot massage right now.
Enjoy your vacay and stay cool!

Well, I must confess to a bit of a list yesterday – cuz I had a lot of errands and I just knew I’d forget something while I was out. But today? NO LIST! I’m completely unscheduled and it’s lovely.
I could go for ANOTHER foot massage!
Iris
You are right – I do “love” that picture. What a lovely place.
I’m running soooo far behind in reading. #1 son was here most of last week and the weekend so I got nothing done. Not complaining – it’s always great to see the ‘kids’.
Thanks for thinking of me.

Glad you had a visit from your son! Katie will be home in about 10 days, I can’t wait to see her!
