So, originally this post was going to be “3 Ways to Style a White Dress for the 4th of July.” But then I walked outside. And my makeup slid down my face and my head turned into a mini-steam room, soaking my hair before I could even get the camera on the tripod. So you’re getting ONE way to style a white dress for the 4th of July. And this is for at night,  when temps have dropped and you’re sitting waiting for the fireworks to start. Don’t be like Bettye and wear layers in the noonday sun…cuz only mad dogs and Englishmen…and bloggers do that.

All that aside, a white dress is so versatile for summer, I’m sure you’ll see this one several more times before season’s end. This gauzy one is from Avenue (it’s the one I was waiting for to do the Midsummer’s Eve shoot in, but it didn’t get here in time, so now I have two white dresses!), and it’s sweet, but not too “sweet,” if you know what I mean.

I tied up my Charlotte Russe Tencel denim shirt for the blue…and am wearing one of my mother’s old silk scarves in my hair for the red.

My hair this summer may just be the death of me. It’s at a length where it curls and frizzes up all over as soon as it’s warm or humid, but it’s not long enough that I can pull it back to get it off my neck and face. I don’t have the right shaped head for this scarf-headband style, because apparently I have a very flat back to my head. Someone with a more pronounced “skull bump out” would have better luck as the bump would keep the scarf from slipping up and off. Nothing is really holding this in place so at the first touch or head shake, it was off. Oh well, I tried. I’ve tested elastic ones in stores and…it just doesn’t look right. It’s just going to be a very long summer, hair-wise. That or a million clips all over my head. Pheh. I hate fuss.

And where am I off to in my red, white and blue? Probably nowhere. I do love fireworks but it’s just so hot right now it doesn’t seem worth the effort. I may go to the laundromat in the morning (how’s THAT for exciting holiday plans?!) in hopes of it being deserted. If it’s even open.

To keep this “Independence Dayish,” did you know that Independence Day is the “National Day” of the United States? I did not know that. And that New York City has the largest fireworks display in the country? I’ve never been. I’m waiting til I know someone with access to a rooftop. I’ve been waiting a loooonnnngggg time.

Happy Independence Day!
