Week in Review: Week 174 (The Uneventful Vacation)
Well, I’m sorry to say you’d never know I was on vacation last week from looking at my week in review. I really just hid out in the apartment, trying to stay cool. I did some errands that have been on the list for awhile, worked on some future blog posts, GOT THROUGH ALMOST ALL THE LIVING ROOM BOXES (!!!), but mostly just sort of puttered around. I guess around mid-week I was like I should probably get out in the world a bit, so I did do that.
So, yeah, the boxes. Just about everything is out and on the shelves (some things are other places in the apartment as it wouldn’t all fit on the one bookcase) and Storage Box Mountain is almost gone…
…but now most of the boxes are holding packing peanuts and bubble wrap (for ebay sales and next time I move) and are just over HERE. So I didn’t get RID of the boxes as much as I just moved them from one spot to another. At least they’re no longer in the living room.
I did a bunch of returning. I let the red and pink bag go. I LOVED it but I just didn’t have enough use for it. Iย reallyย need a new everyday bag, the shoulder strap on mine is all cracking and looks horrible. The lovely billum bags I was coveting were finally listed on the website but in the new pictures I could see the straps were way too short for cross-body. Bags Will Not Stay On My Shoulder. Does anyone else have this problem? Even my right bra strap is constantly slipping off my shoulder. Do I tip right? Anyway, it makes it that a cross-body bag is a necessity. At least as my main everyday bag.
On Wednesday I went with my friend to a street fair-ish event – a lot of towns are having these on summer evenings now. Once a week or every other week, they shut down Main St to cars, and vendors and food trucks come in, there are bands and bars create “drinking corrals” outside on the sidewalk. People mill around. We went to a new one out in Riverhead (about a 45-minute drive for us) and it was HOT SO HOT. There were going to be fireworks later in the evening, but…hot. There wasn’t really even much to take pictures of. I took some on my little disposable film camera but I won’t have those pictures for awhile.
Old pretty church.
Yup. I’m a real photographer.
Friday I hung out in a friend’s pool all afternoon, which was delightful…but no pictures.
Saturday we went out east to an open garden that was canceled when we went out there in the beginning of June. It was stunning and well worth the return trip but MAN was it hot. I’m only sharing one picture here cuz I’m going to do a blog post about it later this week.
And oh yeah, me. Just a tad warm.
And what have I been reading this week? Hmm.
I read “Love the One You’re With” by Emily Giffin. It was fine. I didn’t find it quite as peppy and enjoyable as her other books I’ve read, but if you read this book first you’d probably think it was fine. A basic contemporary story about relationship challenges. A quick, easy read if you’re wanting something for the beach or pool (or sofa). 2.95/5.
On a better note, I read the third JoJo Moyes book in the Louisa Clark trilogy, “Still Me.” The first (“Me Before You”) was still best, but I’ll give this one second best. 3.75 out of 5.
I watched two cute movies:
Juliet, Naked: just a nice, sweet story. Plus, I adore Ethan Hawke. Two thumbs up.
And Life Partners, which I’m pretty sure I’ve seen before…but totally forgot. It was cute. It gets a thumb and a pinky. I like Gillian Jacobs (Love and Community) and Adam Brody (The OC) and even Leighton Meester is growing on me thanks to Single Parents, which is sort of a dopey sweet tv show (but there is a growing dearth of 30-minute sit-coms and sometimes 30 minutes is all the tv I can take).
A song I’m currently obsessed with (don’t judge the song by the video). “When the Party’s Over” by Billie Eilish.
In the end, I only made one list, and that was just for Monday so I didn’t forget any errands or things I needed. I was really unscheduled and living day-to-day. And tomorrow is already back to work and there’s a work event one night this week, so…there’s that.
Seven weeks til the next vacation ๐

Hey…vacations are for recharging and relaxing!! So I think you did good because you even crossed things off your list!!
As for watching movies over….we’ve totally done that. AND I’ve done it with books (which I had to reread once I started because I couldn’t remember the ending!!) And to think I used to make fun of my mom for doing that…ha ha!!

Oh, we all end up doing the things we once made fun of our parents for doing ๐

Ohhh, both the gardens and the little church are lovely.
You know, sometimes a vacation spending doing very little is the best kind (to me anyway).
Yeah, pretty warm here too. Temps are not quite as high as normal but humidity is way up there. It is summer after all!

I thought of you when I photographed the church ๐
Yeah, it was nice having some unscheduled time. But I’m paying for it a bit now!

Well, the living room is for relaxing now isn’t it! I love those street markets in summer. We have a lot ofv them here too. However they never sell something nice! hahaha, have a good start at work tomorrow!

The work week has not been so bad. It’s going passably quickly and there’s been less tension than usual and I have a new project that I’m excited about, so that’s good.
Thanks, Nancy!

Your garden gate picture is how I envisioned my garden one day being. However, I’m willing to bet those owners have staff to help them maintain it. I need staff. You need staff. When will out blogging windfall come? Well, at least you were able to get some rest and reading done. And boxes might be a new DIY decorating upcycle thing so you’re ahead of the curve!

Oh, I’m sure she has just TONS of staff. There’s no way one person could keep all that so tidy. I can barely keep my little patio tidy by myself!
Yes, I am still waiting for my blogging windfall, ha ha. It’s a good thing I just love doing it!

I love Billie Eilish! Her voice is so haunting and perfect.
Doesn’t it feel good to make some house progress? I always feel so accomplished after I’ve reorganized a room or put away a bunch of stuff I have been meaning to get around to.
KC has been really hot this summer, too- and humid! SO humid! You start sweating just standing around in the shade!

This was the first I’d heard of Billie Eilish. I never listen to the radio so I don’t always hear people right away ๐ They played that song on a podcast episode of The Minimalists and then I tracked it down.
Oh, it feels SO good to make progress! And after I’m always like, jeez, that took such a short time, why didn’t I do that MONTHS ago?
