Match Made in Seven: Brown is the New Black
Welcome to the monthly edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet virtually once a month. One of us chooses a theme each month, and that can be anything: a book, music, a color, a movie. And then we all style an outfit based on that theme.
This month’s theme was chosen by Sonja of https://www.yustsome.nl/ and is “Brown.” A fun one for me as I love so many shades of brown, from chestnut to chocolate. See my post about the theme below…and be sure to take a look at my fellow bloggers to see how they have interpreted the theme this month.

Brown, which has not really seen as much popularity as it is now since the 70s, is
“waking up from a sabbatical with a vengeance,” according to Dutch trend forecaster, Lidewij Edelkoort.
Many think that black goes with everything but brown is harder to pair with. But Edelkoort makes the point, “Brown is in perfect harmony with any other colour, it even results in colours becoming more vibrant, because the neutral tone supports them. Black, on the other hand, overpowers other colours paired with it.”
There is a great deal of variation in the brown color range, from cream to brick and bronze. We’ve all certainly seen the spicy chestnuts, cinnamons, and cognacs over the past few autumns. Expect to see them during the rest of the year, as well!
For myself, I loved brown even when it wasn’t a “popular” color. And I’ve liked it combined with black, denim blue, aqua blue, pale pink, to name just a few favorite color combinations.
Here I’ve paired it with a tan pashmina and leopard flats. This is one of those times when I missed having a human photographer who would have noticed the pashmina was all bunched up the wrong way through most of the pictures! Ugh. I sorta wish I’d worn it with a denim jacket instead of the scarf. Next time. I feel like I show “dress with denim jacket” So Often, I tried to veer from that uniform, but…there’s a reason that’s a uniform. It works!
Are you a fan of brown?
What I’m Wearing

I love your whole outfit , I am a fan of brown in all its tones. It’s softer than black and you’re so right it goes with so many other colours.
Cheers,

Thanks, Cheryl! I’ve got the same color on today in a sweater. I’m obsessed with it!

Yes love it how you styled it with that beautiful scarf! And that colour of your dress would be lovely with some pink!

Right?? I LOVE pink with this chestnutty shade!
Loved your “brown” theme!

Bettye, I love your version of brown! Such a cute dress in that rusty shade. I know what your mean about needing a human photographer. But even though my husband takes my photos, he misses things like that, too! Lol! I realized, too, that brown isn’t a big color anymore in fashion like it used to be. So interesting. But I like it and so do most people, so…brown it is!
Happy holidays, my friend,
xx Darlene

Yeah. once in a while I have a male photographer, and I’ll point specific things out to him: make sure my blouse doesn’t gape open, watch for my bangs blowing off my forehead in the wind, make sure my earrings don’t twist this weird way….and he STILL misses them!
Happy Holidays to you, as well, Darlene!

I’ve always been a fan of brown. It gives me a warmer feel just looking at it. Love your outfit.

Brown is very comforting to me. Like snuggling up with your first horse (that may or may not be a very specific personal memory).

Thanks, Emma! I counted in my closet the other day, and I have EIGHT items in this cinnamony brown shade! I think I might have a problem – I can’t pass it up when I see it!

What a pretty brown and I love a wrap dress! I didn’t really notice anything wrong with the scarf, so don’t ask me to take your pictures for you, either :/ That, and I’m not a good photographer…. I love the way you’ve accessorized it and I sure do hope brown is back in because I love browns!
