I don’t know that I’ve ever struggled with outfits so much as with this winter to spring transition! And I think it’s probably this way every year – March  1 hits, we think SPRING!!! But March is NOT spring. Sometimes even SPRING isn’t spring. I remember 4 or 5 years back it snowed on the first day of spring. It broke my windshield wipers and they were broken for years.

Anyway, I’m getting a little antsy to wear some springier things…or more aptly, I’m sick and tired of the same old winter clothes I’ve been wearing for months!

So I took one summer dress and styled it two ways for cool pre-spring weather. I probably wouldn’t like bare legs just yet but those of you with more gumption than I, could get yourselves into some tights for a little leg warmth.

This is the dress, a la summer.

Look 1.

I call this “Dress with Something Over It.”

I’ve been dying to combine blush pink with mustardy gold, so WIN.

Plus, the oversized sweater over the dress makes the dress look like a skirt!

I must have a lot of pink in my skin tone cuz when I look at these shoes not on me, they look blush pink. For sure. But when I put them on me they literally disappear and seem more nude. Nuder?

Look 2.

I call this look, “Dress with Something Under It.”

All winter I’ve dreamed of wearing this dress with a long-sleeved cream thermal top under it, a chunky cream cardigan over it, cream cable-stitch tights, and cognac ankle boots. After about five months of hunting, I managed to pull together two out of four.

I love the look of the cream thermal under the dress. I’d be happy to wear it just like that. And how cute would those pieces look under a denim jacket? So Cute!!! But I took it one step further for extra coziness and added the cardigan. I need to roll those sleeves a bit, that sweater is a whole lotta sleeve.

And that’s it. Two easy ways to turn a lightweight summer dress into a pre-spring (or fall!) dress. I did a similar post several years ago, called How to Wear a Summer Dress All Year Long. It still holds up, over three years later.

Stay safe out there, friends!
