Style Session: 3 Casual Ways to Style a Striped Tee
If you’ve got a striped tee in your dresser drawer but you’re not quite sure what to do with it, I’ve got you covered today with three easy casual outfit ideas that will take you from the gym to the office (or home office)!
I do think a striped tee shirt is a very versatile staple item that you can wear in many different situations and with so many different outfits. I love a striped tee! I think of them like a white tee with a little extra sumthin sumthin.
I do like to choose pieces for my wardrobe that do double (or triple!) duty — the more versatile the better!
This particular tee shirt is from Amazon’s Daily Ritual line. It’s a rayon/spandex blend (95/5%) which has a very nice silky, stretchy feel. I have several of these shirts, in white, black, and stripes. They wash well and easily and are very affordable at under $20. This style is a “swing” style that has a little more room around the hips and tummy if you like that. I do! I’m wearing a 3x.
Look #1
I’m starting with the most casual outfit – a sporty, athleisure look. I think stripes are perfect for a sporty look and this tee is long and loose enough to skim over the top part of the leggings. Finish the look off with some athletic sneakers and you’ve got a great outfit for walking or hanging out with friends….or working from home during quarantine!
Look #2
Take the casualness up a notch by swapping out the leggings for lightwash jeans and white sneakers. Do a full-tuck, half-tuck, or knotted front for a little extra pizazz (ha ha, I don’t know that I’ve ever actually written that word before!). I knot my tees with a coated ponytail holder. This shirt is actually a little long for a neat knotted look. It works better with a little less fabric.
- Old Navy High-Waisted Secret-Slim Pockets + Waistband Power Slim Straight Plus-Size Jeans, size 24 short.
- Superga 2402 COTW Slip-On Sneaker
Look #3
Create an office casual or evening with friends look with some skinny black jeans and a duster-length black cardigan. When I’m wearing a lot of black I like to break it up with some natural tones. Here I’m wearing leopard print loafers and have a cognac tote. This keeps the outfit from being too matchy-matchy.
I hope these looks gave you some different ideas for wearing a striped tee-shirt!
- Charlotte Russe Black Skinny Jeans, size 24 short. No longer available, comparable here.
- Old Navy Longline Open-front Cardigan, size 2x. This very fine knit, rayon/cotton blend is a super nice lightweight cardigan for year-round
- Target Leopard Flats
- Able Leather Tote in Whiskey

I 💚 the knotted tee look! It gives you great 1/3-2/3 proportions. I have to practice my knot techniques, I always think they look weird on me. You rock it!

Yay! It’s always so hard for me to get a good ratio/proportion cuz most of my shirts are longer to cover my belly! I’m trying to be a little braver about showing it and wearing shorter shirts!

Pizzazz….you’ve obviously been hanging around me too much!! And I LOVE it!!
And then the “a little extra sumthin sumthin”….my husband always gives me a hard time when I make up words, and I always say it’s my blog, I can make up words if I want to!!

I’m playing catch-up again but just wanted to say I love the stripped tee. Don’t have one, may need to work on that.
