I love to explore. I love finding new places, trying different things, learning new skills (even when I suck at them). There’s just something so energizing about going or doing something you’ve never done before. It enriches your mind and enlarges your world.

And you don’t need to travel halfway around the world to go somewhere new! We probably all have places practically in our own backyards that we’ve never been to. Maybe you’ve said you’ll get there or try that someday.

Back to the Fuchsia

Taking a dark turn here, but…my girlfriend called me this afternoon, shaken up because her neighbor had died suddenly during the night. She was not old, she was not sick…but now she is dead. Which is just a reminder to me not let someday never come. Make someday happen now.

Which is part of what made us plan our little impromptu trip this past weekend. We’ve been holed up due to covid for many months. She had lots of travel plans this year…they’ve all been canceled. I had been looking forward to doing a couple overnight trips this summer…but the pandemic made me forget all this year’s optimistic plans. But now we thought…things are better here (relatively speaking, and people are still being careful), we are allowed to travel within the state. So – off we went!

You’ll hear more about the whole trip in another post next week, today I’m just sharing one fun place. My friend is very good at seeking out the different and unusual in any area…so on our way home from Woodstock on Monday, we made a slight detour to check out Fabulous Furniture in Boiceville, NY, where Steve Heller displays all his spaceship-esque art made from old car parts and other machinery.

It was magical.

And HOT.

Too hot for walking in a dress. Thigh sweat. Nuff said. But this lightweight sleeveless rayon top was easy-breezy. I bought this 3-4 years ago in TJ Maxx but it was too small so it’s been in the “sell” tub. I tried it recently when I was looking through the tub for something else and ding ding ding ding ding we have a winner! I’m grateful for the find, as coronavirus and months of work-from-home made me hesitant to buy the summer shirts on my “need” list. But now I’m out in the world and it is HOT and I really NEED some good hot weather tops! I’m also really enjoying my new sandals. I walked all day Sunday in them and there was no painful break-in period, which was lovely. And while jeans are not my preferred pant for summer, these white ones are the best option I have right now.

When I looked at the pictures I thought…if I could have a white pant in a more pliable fabric – linen or tencel – so they hung a little more softly, that was snugger in the waist so they wouldn’t slip down, and looser in the calf so they wouldn’t get “stuck” there causing all that bagging at the knee, that would be a pretty perfect pant.

Is it obnoxious that I’m saying “pant”? Ha ha, I get it. But it’s faster and less cumbersome than saying “pair of pants” over and over again. Why is one pair of pants a plural word, anyway? And why is it “a pair”? Did they used to be singles, for one leg only, so you’d need a pair? I know stockings were that way. But pants? I don’t know.

I’ll have to explore that.

Where or what have you explored lately?
