Week in Review: Week 241
Sigh. The weeks are slipping by and I’m really not doing much other than job-work and blog-work. I’m trying to get outside every day (beyond just driving to and from work) but…it doesn’t always happen. So I’ll pass on the daily updates this week and just share what’s going on in general and some random pictures from the week.
- I’m trying to move some of my patio plants indoors for the winter. I’m a terrible houseplant Mom but there are two I love so much that I’m going to try. I bought some indoor plant lights and now I just have to figure out where they’re going to live. I’ll cut them way back before bringing them inside (which is so sad cuz they still look so beautiful, but I know that will make the adjustment to indoor life easier on them). I guess I should get that done this week before there’s a frost.
- I’ve started working with a consultant on the blog, so expect to see some changes soon. This is part of what’s been taking up a lot of time recently. There’s a lot of homework! It’s all good but it is really being a challenge to fit it in 🙂 I’ll tell you more as there’s more to tell!
- I realize this may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I find this video so powerfully beautiful and evocative, I can’t stop watching it. It’s one of those things I see that hit me very “I’ve been going through life not knowing this even existed?!?” A bit of back-story, these are two singers (Ten and WinWin) from Asian pop bands (which is a whole story in itself, but I’m pacing myself) who self-choreographed this dance, designed the set, wardrobe, everything themselves. I’m also sharing a video of an interview with them about the making of it and they are just delightful.
PS: to make it fashun, I’m obsessed with Ten’s boxy, oversized cream sweater. That’s how I want every piece of clothing to fit.
- Proud Mom Moment: Did I tell y’all about Katie’s Big Promotion and move back to Florida? I’d been waiting for California to come off the “no travel from NY” list so Katie and I could plan a visit – this is the longest I’ve ever gone without seeing her. No sooner did it come off than she shared with me that she’s been promoted to VP of Operations at the company she has worked for these past six years. I could not be more proud. However, the new role requires her to move back to FL for a year to get some new programs and staff in place at the home office. There had been rumors of her returning to NY to live this fall…so that has been put on hold for now…and Florida is still very much on the naughty list, so we can’t make any plans to see one another 🙁
WHAT I’M READING
Not a book! Not yet. But, I thought this was an interesting article about “brain food” and eating for your brain vs eating for your body. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/what-happened-when-i-ate-the-best-brain-foods-for-a-week? It’s actually not that dissimilar to my theory of mindful eating and not 100% denying yourself anything.
WHAT I’M WATCHING
Yes, I’m still hooked on kdramas. Though after the first few I’m having a hard time finding more like that: gentle, quiet, nice people with lovely music and cinematography. The vast majority seem to be modeled after popular western shows: crime, office, hospital, school, fantasy, sci-fi, etc. All the things I was trying to escape from. But I have two more I’d recommend if you were so inclined:
I’ll Go To You When the Weather is Nice. I was halfway through this one at last Week in Review and finished it early this week. It moves into the #2 spot. Was so lovely and sweet and heartbreaking. Is still sitting in my heart almost a week later. It’s supposed to be coming to Netflix this month. I watched it on Viki.com – yes, I am actually subscribing to an Asian movie/tv streaming service. Sigh.
Hi Bye, Mama. A story of nice people in an impossible situation. While heartbreaking, it’s told in somewhat of an upbeat manner, and you need to suspend belief for one whole part (ghosts, dead people coming back to life) and those parts were pretty silly and I would fast-forward through them. I liked it, but didn’t LOVE LOVE it as I have some of the others. But did it make me cry! Whoa. So much crying. That’s a plus in my book, but…
I had so much on my To Do lists this weekend there was no time for play, BUT…tonight is Monday Funday with friends in the city, so that’ll be a nice change of scenery. Sorry this was such a duddy week. Hope you guys are having some fun!
Over and out.
Lovely
Congrats to Katie on her promotion! I can totally relate to your trader’s joe experience. My plan to visit the store for an item would sometimes end up with a bunch more.

Yeah, I was somewhat controlled as I’d already done a “real” grocery shop recently. But now I wish I’d gotten more 🙂

WOW, congrats to Katie – I know you’re super proud.
I love the little sign in the first pic “fresh baked pies” – sounds delicious!

I love that little farm stand. It’s right around the corner from me on my way home, so I can just pull out right in front, grab a tomato and go! Sadly, it closes soon for the season 🙁

I read that article about the diet…it’s not much different than what Rob’s naturopath is touting. Only it’s not called a “diet” but a “liveit” because it’s supposed to be how one eats forever. Granted, the best part is not having restrictions. So we plan to use the 80/20 rule while knowing that it really affects our bodies.
So excited for Katie….I would have thought that Florida is an easier commute…I didn’t realize it was still a no go?

I always feel like everyone else should know what’s going on in NY cuz…IT’S NEW YORK!!! Ha ha. I guess we can be a little self-important 🙂
But no, Florida is still on the “can’t travel into NY without quarantining in place for 14 days” list along with 42 other states! We’re hardly letting ANYONE in from ANYWHERE these days! We had it Too Bad in the beginning to go back there again…through irresponsible actions (ours or those of others). Now even NJ, PA and CT are on the naughty list but Cuomo was like there’s just no way to prohibit travel back and from those states in and out of NY cuz of businesses and too many people commute from one of those states to another for work. I was disheartened to hear it was getting bad again so close to home – I thought the tri-state area had learned its lesson once and wouldn’t go back there again.
As far as during “normal times,” FL is still a long uber ride to the airport, luggage fees, airfare, all times 2. It’s RELATIVELY cheaper than flying to CA, and certainly a shorter flight, but it’s still not something I can do very often.
