What I Bought: November
I keep thinking about things I’d like but I never quite get around to shopping for them. Which is not a bad thing. November 2019 was like my largest $ shopping month ever and I’ve made it a point to be more controlled.
Bed Skirt
This was debuted (ha ha) in this month’s Where Bloggers Live post about our bedrooms. I’m so glad I finally broke down and got this, it makes the space look so much neater. And it needs all the help it can get.
Let’s just call them “EARRINGS,” shall we??
I wear them with the dangly bit only on one ear. I’m so edgy (ha ha).
And that was IT? What the heck?!? I’m so distracted by All Things You Know Where I’m not even SHOPPING??
Here are some things I’m looking for, but you know me, it’ll take 9.5 months to find JUST exactly what I want…
- Hoodies as a layering piece. A grey one and a black one. To wear under blazers and coats. Like this.
And we can file this one under “if you can’t have The Guy, you can at least dress like him.”
I do have to say, my inspo outfit folders are filling up more and more with pictures of men and men’s style. I probably shouldn’t be surprised, the women I’ve been consistently inspired by for the past years, dress in a very masculine/man-tailored style.
- Oversized knit vests. These would work in place of a pullover in “The Formula.”
Frustratingly, the only place I’m really seeing this very oversized/side slit style, is in Japan/Korea. And the places at which I’ve inquired, do not ship to the US. At least in the UK I have a shopping buddy who can purchase for me, then ship here to NY. So…the search will be long.
And a pair of black chunky-soled Chelsea boots or combat boots. And somewhere I have saved pictures of three that I’ve narrowed it down to and do you think I can find them anywhere now when I need them? No.
And the black raincoat I think I mentioned somewhere last week.
See how simple this is? That’s what I’m looking for. This one doesn’t come in black. Or my size. So. Another long, probably unfruitful search. But hey.
So, a pretty uneventful shopping month. Got nothing new to show!

I’m with you on the masculine-ish/androgynous look. Whenever I try to move into something overtly girly, it hangs unused in the closet. Those earrings–cool!–never seen anything like them. Based on the name, they’re popular in Korea?

And I love wearing dresses, too! But even with dresses, I tend to “girly” them down (“un-girly”?) with sneakers or with something a little harder or…schlubbier/more casual over top. I prefer “tomboy” to “pretty pretty princess.”
These hoops with dangly bits are sort of a “softcore” goth look that has been adopted by a lot of Korean pop stars (and maybe others as well but not everyone is on my radar right now). There’s some comparable ones in a nice gold, so I wanted to try these inexpensive stainless ones first to see if I even liked wearing the style. When I showed them to my daughter for her opinion she was like NO. Ha. She probably thinks mom should act her age. THANK YOU, BUT NO. Ha. Anyway, I’m liking them. I’m also digging rings on many fingers, but rings are harder (fit).

Hey…you’ll have to check out my Instagram post tomorrow…I wore one of Rob’s vests like that (sorta).
And I love the hoodie under jackets too…I was just thinking I need a couple!!

I had a poncho that was a bit like the side slit, oversized vests. You might try searching using the word poncho! Really like the look of the trench coat, jeans and striped shirt outfit. Looks uncomplicated and put together. I tend to go for too much…too many frills, or patterns or whatever. I think there is a lot to be said for a very clean, streamlined style.
