Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ June 19-25
I felt a little sartorially organized this week. For the first time in a long time (I’d given up the habit during the Work From Home era last year and just never picked it up again) I selected my week’s worth of outfits ahead of time so I wasn’t fumbling around in the morning trying to pull something together at the last minute. Go, Me. I also managed to stay away from All Jeans All the Time, which was refreshing.
SATURDAY
I call this look Hot Weekend Casual. Hot in the sense of high temperature. We’re nearing that time of year when I don’t so give a you-know-what about what I’m wearing, when I don’t have to. So it’s all my natural fiber, loose-fitting dresses, with a light button-down worn open over the top.
In this case we have The Return of the Nightgown Dress. This is it’s fifth summer and is still going strong. I put the yellow stripe button-down over it cuz blue/yellow is a complementary color combo, and a summery one at that. I wore the navy Converse instead of the white Keds to try and “toughen” up the nightgowny look of the dress.
It’s kind of a mess but…it’s comfortable for the temperature and the day’s activities (nothing).

Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline Slip-ons. 2021
SUNDAY
Yesterday’s sister look. Loose, light dress with oversized breathable shirt over top. Same game as Saturday, just different players. Expect to see this type of combination a LOT over the summer. I wore the cognac slides just to give a little contrast to the light colors in the outfit.
Dress: Junarose, 3x. 2017. Comparable.

Slides: Birkenstock Madrid Big Buckle Slide in Cognac. 2020
MONDAY
Back to work. And it’s Mismatched Monday for Spirit Week!
I’ve been looking for a lightweight cropped cardigan to go over this dress but haven’t found The One yet and have been frustrated at not being able to wear it yet (only once in Florida). So I figured I could throw anything over it for Mismatched Day…but when I put the grey stripes with the green polka dots I was like, HEY! YOU GOT CHOCOLATE ON MY PEANUT BUTTER! And I liked it!
The Moral of this Story is: Don’t overlook ANY combination in your closet. Try everything with everything, even if it seems ridiculous in your mind.

Sneakers: Keds Champions, 2021
TUESDAY
I just wanted EASY today. The Mon/Tue/Wed portion of my week has gotten Very Full, with class Monday evening, homework/studying Tuesday evening, and class again Wednesday evening. By Thursday night I’m shot…and I just noticed I have a dr appointment this Thursday evening and I’m like NOOOOO!
But I digress. Easy. Two-piece outfit easy to put together…and this top has “ease of fit.” It’s a little oversized and the fabric is soft, like it’s been washed many times.
Jeans, sneakers. What’s easier?
Button-down: Anthropologie: Maeve The Clarissa buttondown, 2x. 2021
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021
WEDNESDAY
I like this shirt so much but don’t reach for it as much as I could. Not cuz I don’t like wearing it…I do. I just think it seems a LITTLE more fancy than most of my things, so I don’t want to “wear it out”? Not in the sense that the fabric would fall apart, but in the “it’ll lose its specialness if I wear it too often” sense. So I guess I only wear it like a once a month-ish…and only in spring/summer/early fall, so…
It’s one of those items that make me feel like I have too many things in my closet. If there are things I’m only wearing once a month, I feel like that means I have too many things.
I create my own hell.
And the leopard shoes were a last-minute switch-out. I’d been wearing those chestnutty flats (that someone here calls the cow patty shoes, ha ha) with these jeans in the warmer months and the combo always felt a little off to me. I think the shoes have a yellowy (warm) undertone…and the cardi and jeans are more to the grey side of cream/beige and read a little cooler to me.
Now, the leopard flats are ALSO warm-toned, but in an orangey way, which to me is the same color family as the bricky-rust top, so the orange in the flats has the orangey in the top to be friends with, SO….ipso facto I’m happy.
At first I thought the leopard flats would be too dark with the lighter-toned jeans/cardi, but when I wore one leopard and one chestnut and looked in the mirror, the leopard had a nice bottom weight to them, so.
Do other people attribute “weights” to colors? It’s like my “can’t wear a light-colored cardigan over a dark-colored shirt” thing. It feels like “top heavy” to me with the visual weight (ie dark color) being on the top. It just feels off to me. On ME. I SEE other people doing it and sometimes it looks fine, but sometimes I’m like “nope.” To myself, ha ha.
Sometimes I try to bring others into my hell.
Button-down: Loft, 22/24. 2019. Comparable here and here.
Cardigan: Old Navy, 2x. 2017. Comparable here and here.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, size 22 short, self-cropped. 2015

THURSDAY
Annual CT Scan Day. Which means easy dress with no metal bits so I don’t have to wear the ^*$^#@ hospital gown. I can just slip my bra off from underneath and poof, I’m ready.
Hospital gowns are The WORST. Whoever designed THOSE torture devices should be shot. I have no doubt it was a man.
So, anytime I can avoid wearing one, I’m happy. My personal comfort (both physical and emotional) is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE to me. So, the soft swishy stretchy dress is A Big Improvement over those “oh, you mean you want us to actually COVER your body??” gowns.
Dress: The Store That Shall Remain Nameless, size 22. 2016. Comparable.
Button-down: Charlotte Russe, 3x, 2016. Comparable.
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2020
FRIDAY
Friday. Made it.
Not much to say here. Black column base. Chartreuse unbuttoned shirt.
The End.
Button-down: Pilcro/Anthropologie, 2x. 2021
Black Tee: Old Navy, 3x. 2021
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2020
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons (ha ha I meant to wear the black sneakers today and it wasn’t til I saw them in the picture here that I was like oh. oops))

Well, to be clear, I think the tied-up blouses LOOK fine, but they’re not my chosen comfort look. It gives me too firm a waist and I don’t like any snugness around my body. Like at all, ever. So it was good for a switch-up and it suited the day’s theme at work but…if I ever get a cardigan to go over that dress I’ll probably never worn the tied-up shirt with it. I’d also like the color of my light blue Tencel chambray over this dress so I might do that next if I still don’t have a cardigan.
You know how it is, there are things you’ll DO…and things you LIKE doing. I’ll DO the tied-up button-down, but I’d always prefer a less constricting cardigan (or unbuttoned button-down).

Planning and setting out outfits for the week is the best. So I really did think that was a nightgown until I got to the Converse and then was like, Oh, it’s a dress then! Monday’s moral is 100% Jodie, so I’m glad she saw it 🙂 That green polka dot dress is giving me all the swishy delight and is super cute with the Keds. I love the leopard print with Wednesday’s outfit.

Ha ha, yes, The Nightgown Dress walks a fine line between home life and out-in-the-world life. I no longer wear it to work, it’s more of an “out in the evenings/running errands” kind of dress.
I wore leopard print last week?? I have absolutely no recollection of that, ha ha. I’ll have to go back and look.

My favorite outfit is the first one – but you look pretty spiffy in all of them. I do really love the color of the shirt in the last photo.
I’m definitely with you on hospital gowns. They have to be THE worst.

Thanks, Iris. Yeah, you’d think someone would come up with a better design.
