Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ September 12
Annnnd she’s back. Summer vacay’s over, time to get back TO it.
TODAY, I am at high anxiety. With a side of low blood sugar jitters. NOT a good way to go into the afternoon with all I need to do.
Mondays are “dialogue reading” in my Korean group. Usually there’s just three of us, and we take turns reading the “parts.” It may sound like no big deal but it’s pretty stressful. The potential for being WRONG is so very high. And it’s not like there’s any repercussion for being wrong. Seriously, the teacher is the most patient, kind, and generous with praise person EVER. So the pressure is really all self-inflicted. It’s gotten BETTER since we started, for sure, but still. I can’t imagine what my heart’s going to do when I need to speak Korean to an actual Korean person. I think I’m going to be doing a lot of pointing and pantomiming.
A good news thing, the Grandma Dogsitter has been summoned and it looks like I’ll be going to Florida the last weekend of September to stay with my grand-puppehs and grand-kitteh while The Child comes up HERE (oh the irony) for a friend’s weddingy thing. It’ll just be me, the dogs/cat, the pool and the jacuzzi tub. I’ll stay one extra day and she’ll take the day off so at least we can spend Monday together until I have to leave. I think a little change of scenery will do me good.

For what it’s worth, I think you might be surprised when you speak Korean to an actual Korean person in a non-classroom kind of setting. When I was 5 years removed from German class, in Germany I had to explain to two non-English-speaking mechanics what was wrong with our rental car in German, and it went pretty well even though my German was terrible! In the real world, I think most people just want to understand what you’re saying rather than judging how you say it. (Well, I’ve heard differently about the French, but whatever.) I think it’s reasonable to expect a lot of grace from the Koreans you talk to!

I have HEARD that in general, Koreans are appreciative of people attempting their language at ALL and understanding of mistakes, etc. And when I hear native Korean speakers speak English and they make mistakes or have to speak in broken sentences…I just think how great that they know as much English as they do…so why I can’t give myself the same grace, I’m not really sure – but it’s par for the course.

Not on subject of your Korean classes…..but SO delighted that you have found a way to choose nice, attractive, fun clothing for yourself !! I well remember what it was like to NEVER think self worthy, deserving or that it “made sense” to purchase anything nice to wear as long as not “slim enough!!!” You Go Girl!!!!!!! God bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
