We had intended to go to the Alamo today (I have relatives who died there, so that’s always an attraction), and let Katie see a bit of San Antonio before she had to leave. But timing sort of got away from us and that didn’t happen. We did have a nice lunch at a French restaurant. The weather had mellowed a bit and we sat outside in the shade. That was nice.

When we got back it was time to take Katie to the airport. Sadface. I know I’ll see her again in March, so I’m trying to not be too sad.

We had a quiet evening. They watched the Dodgers, I worked, listed a camera on ebay, and finished last week’s blog post.

Today was a planned rest day. My cousin has been go go going for about a week with company and preparing for the memorial. And I was just tired from actually doing things and being around people for a week. So we just stayed home, she napped. I did stuff on my computer. We did go out to Mexican for dinner with two other cousins and a little dog. But mostly was just a quiet day.

Today was an unplanned rest day ha ha. We were both just tired and literally lay on the sofas all day, watching a documentary series about places where really old people live, than that beautiful Chinese woman who like builds entire cities out of scraps in her backyard, then a couple episodes of the K drama I’m watching, then the original Overboard while we had leftovers for dinner then another couple episodes of the K drama and then I was ready to be off the sofa and go to bed.

Today was PRO. DUCTIVE. Yay. Dropped off two pairs of pants for hemming and two sweaters for repairs at a tailor. Fingers crossed. I have as much anxiety about getting pants hemmed as I do about getting my haircut. After an unsuccessful visit at a Verizon store, managed to order a new phone through Verizon with fancy upgrade benefits…and I can pick it up tomorrow.

I really wanted the better phone for traveling going forward. I don’t want to have to lug my camera and two ehavy lenses around everywhere. There are some places I’ll go TO take pictures, and then the camera comes…but other days, when I’m just out and about, I want decent enough pictures but don’t want to carry the heavy camera…so I’m glad I was able to get the new phone in time.I’ve been using my iphone 12 since 2021. The battery has been down to 80% for ages.

Got several hours of work done, finally ordered the phone tripod I’ve been wanting for ages…and almost pulled the trigger on my Osaka to Thailand flight…but…am holding off for now. I’ve been looking at flights in the $350 range and today I saw a $185 flight, whoa. But now I’m entering the world of Airlines I’ve Never Heard Of…and when I read some reviews about the airline I was like…uhhhh. So I want to think about it a bit.

The outing of the day was about an hour away to look at some vintage dishes (see, it’s genetic). My cousin had seen an ad for someone selling a LOT of dishes, like large sets…and one of them matched a pattern she has and wanted to add more pieces to her collection. So we ended up at a shed just filled with tubs of lovely dishes. Made me a little sad that I couldn’t buy any for myself.

Not enough to make me want to curtail my travels…but…

Saturday, Oct 18

My cousin’s children and grandchildren came for a family dinner. They are all such really nice kids – loving, caring, smart, polite, responsible. This is the first time I’ve gotten to spend much time with them…and I’m grateful for it.

Sunday, Oct 19

I was invited to join cousins’ book club. It was very nice. Like a tea party with lovely little sandwiches and sweets. The girls talked about what books they’d read and liked/disliked recently and I was very impressed with their in-depth analysis of themes and plot points and character development, etc. They annotate the books as they read them.

I read a book and am like “I liked it/I didn’t like it,” and that’s about it, ha ha.

Another family dinner.

And…some sad news. Our good friend Iris, a long-time member of our Where Bloggers Live group, passed away a few days ago. I’m going to write more in the near future, but I didn’t want the week’s post to end without acknowledgment of this very sad event 🙁
