Life This Week in Los Angeles & St.Petersburg, FL: September 1-7, 2025
Monday, Sep 1

I will say the obligatory “whoa. September.”
It was Labor Day…and while we’d had holiday-like plans, at the last minute everyone felt sort of overwhelmed…my great niece starts school tomorrow, my nephew wanted to work on the playhouse…so we just stayed local, ran some errands and did things around the house.
My lovely young sensei (aka my great-niece) did give me a private Japanese lesson 🙂
I did my pre-packing laundry. I do NOT feel like packing. Again. IÂ definitely want to whittle down what I take with me going forward. I’m going to have to get rid of some things, so I can leave more at Katie’s house, without increasing my footprint in her closet.
Tuesday, Sep 2

It was slow packing day. How did I bring all this stuff here in these three suitcases…I’ve bought NOTHING since I’ve been here…I already sent one box of stuff onward to Katie’s…and I STILL couldn’t fit everything (my niece will send it to me) and both Mama Bear and Papa Bear suitcases were overweight.
What sort of demonic math is that??
Wednesday, Sep 3

My building friend Kim gave me the “success talisman” pin and I added the Korean flag…I guess this will be my travel collection. I needed something that was small.
Got up at 3am for a 6:45 flight. Everything went smoothly: uber was on time, there was no traffic, I walked right up to check-in/baggage drop, no line, I walked right up to security, no line. They did pull apart my carry-on. Security always get concerned by all the cameras. Headed for my gate and FOR ONCE I was at the first gate!

Just FYI, maybe you guys knew this, I did not. Frontier Airlines has no charging ports onboard. GAH! Yes, I have an extra battery pack, but knowing it was going to be a 24-trip, I was concerned. Oh, yeah, I have a 14-hour layover at Denver. Not sure how that happened but here we are. It’s 1:04pm now. I got here at 9:30am…and my flight isn’t til 11:59pm.

I’m sitting in the food area and there were tables, so, I was able to do a little remote work and update the blog. Unfortunately it’s a terrible table:chair height ratio and my back won’t allow this for much longer.

Thursday, Sep 4

Well, after spending literally the entire day at Denver Airport, I did finally arrive in Tampa at 6:30am this morning. The arrival went smoothly. After doing several international flights in a row, a domestic flight seemed so easy-peasy. My luggage was off the carousel and sitting there waiting for me by the time I got there…and Katie arrived a few minutes later to pick me up. We drove though McDonalds for breakfast…and we were both back in bed by 8am. I actually had a hard time falling asleep even though I hadn’t slept on the flight at all…and in the end only slept til about 1pm. She had work, I ordered a grocery delivery. Was a quiet day.
Friday, Sep 5

Today, she is my birthday! Happy 65 to me! I slept a lot of the day, but we ordered delivery sushi for dinner and she went out to pick up a birthday cake. We watched that new show, “The Paper.” Meh.

Saturday, Sep 6

Slept til around noon (will my sleep ever be normal again??). Got up, showered, and dressed for birthday mani-pedis and lunch out. I always feel out of place at nail salons – like everyone else knows what to do but me. I just did a pedicure and leg massage. That was lovely. Katie did a manicure. Then a local Italian restaurant. Then home for more tv-watching from the sofa. I can only watch Korean shows when she goes to sleep.
I’ve been slowly watching (since I was still in Korea) a Korean dating show called Better Late than Single and it’s adorable. Four women, four men, all late 20s, early 30s, who have never been in a relationship. Several of them you’re like, well, obviously, ha ha…but others you’re like, really?? He/she’s so charming, engaging, thoughtful, etc, how have they gotten this far in life without ever being in a relationship?
Sunday, Sep 7

We had a little monsoony storm this morning, brief, as is typical of Florida.
Katie headed out for plans with friends. I finally went through my suitcasesa, sorting: clothes from stuff…stuff into Want to Take Abroad, Don’t Want to Take Abroad, and Not Sure. I can’t really REALLY do a proper sorting of what I’m taking with me til I get those boxes I shipped from Korea back in July. Hopefully they’ll be here by the end of September. I think that’s where more of my fall/winter shirts/sweaters are.
I finally dug my laptop out and did some remote work. I need to get back in a routine for that cuz I’m just leaving $ on the table by not doing my full allowance of hours. And return to the daily To Do list cuz there’s stuff I gotta do! Tomorrow, Monday, will be my frest start here.
Not a very exciting week. Not sure that the coming week will be all that entertaining either. I go to the eye dr on Thursday for a second opinion on how long this siliconoid needs to stay in my eye. I’d LOVE for it to come out before I move on. I’d also like the cataract removed from my left eye, but I’ll have to see how much that costs.
Alrighty then, so long from Florida!
PS: I miss being in Korea. My little life there. Sigh.

Sally in St Paul
Happy (belated) birthday! I’m glad the timing worked out this didn’t happen during your 14 hour stay at “beautiful Denver airport.” That’s all I’ve got because my mind is stuck on CAKE.

Yeah, I planned that I’d be here with Katie for my birthday. However, I had not PLANNED on 14 hours at Denver Airport, that was a surprise to me like a week after I’d booked the flight. So my lack of attentiveness could have had unfortunate results. And yeah, cake. Just finished it up last night. Not sure when the next cake will be. I feel like it should be npt too far off in the future.
