Welcome! “Where Bloggers Live” started out kind of like HGTV’s “Celebrities at Home,” but…with bloggers! We all like to peek behind the scenes and see inside people’s homes, interests, and lives, so every month this wonderful  family of amazing women shares their work-spaces, homes, towns, and thoughts, with posts based on specific prompts. It’s been so interesting over the years to see the different ways each of us interpret the topics.

This month’s Where Blogger’s Live prompt is Things You’ll Always Hear Me Say.

I’ve collected sayings from movies, tv shows, and other people all my life…then use them myself. Some come from inside jokes, so…may not make sense to others, but here we go, for better or worse.

Don’t be sad cuz your sun is down / You remember fun, don’tcha? You’re supposed to ENJOY IT!

This comes from my closest bestest friend in my mid-20s to early 30s…and then, for reasons unbeknownst to me, we were no longer friends. Which is always sad. I found her phone number once (she’d moved out of state) and called her maybe ten years since we’d last been in touch…she answered and I was like NAME!!! She goes “you’re so weird.” And we proceeded to have a long conversation like we used to when we were friends. At the end I asked for her current email (mine was the same)…but the one she gave me, when I emailed her to follow up, bounced back 🙁

ANYWAY. She used to say these two things: Don’t be sad cuz your sun is down…and you remember fun, dontcha? You’re supposed to ENJOY IT! I don’t know where SHE got these from, but they have stuck with me all this time and I still say them to this day.

Always Go Through the Open Doors

This is just a mantra of mine – meaning, consider every opportunity that presents itself to you, give all things a try. With things I want to do I say as long as the doors in front of me remain open, I’ll just keep going through them (which is how I ended up living in South Korea for two years!).

Hoping for the Best but Expecting the Worst

This from the 1984 Alphaville classic, Forever Young. And this truly has been my mantra – hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Pretty self explanatory, a balanced viewpoint in my eyes.

Chin Up, Young Person

This is a line from the 1998 movie with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd, “The Object of My Affection.” There’s a dance class scene, they’re taking ballroom dancing classes…the instructor goes to (one of them, I forget which), and lifts their chin with her finger and says “chin up, young person.” She said it very literally, but I took and use it figuratively…meaning, like…not cheer up…but sort of. Chin up is little more to me like “put on your big girl panties and get on with it” – with a good attitude.

Turtle Run

And the last one I’ll share I attribute to my bestest friend Mochi (names have been changed to protect the innocent, but that’s really what I call her). One time we were going to do a 5K run to benefit turtles…of some sort, I don’t remember exactly. As the date of the run got closer, we were each (unbeknownst to the other) waffling about going. And the day before, or the day of (the details are blurry), we were both like, “do you want to do it?? cuz if YOU still want to do it, I’ll do it,” but we realized neither one of us really wanted to do it…so we mutually begged off. We TURTLE RAN it. Now, anytime there’s something you THINK you’re going to do, but in the end you bail…you’ve “turtle run” it.

And that’s enough for one day…some honorable mentions (with no context given) are:

“Nice kitty, nice kitty, nice kitty…BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD”

“What’cha eating under there” “Under where?” “You’re eating UNDERWEAR UNDER THERE???”

Anytime I see army tanks, oil tanks, fish tanks, water tanks (you get the picture), I ask, “what’s that”” Until I get the response “tanks,” to which I loudly respond YOU’RE WELCOME! I’d probably list that one under Stupid Dad Jokes, but still. I use it whenever I can.
