Week in Review: Week 147
The Christmas Bunny
A little story about the concrete porch bunny. I had one many many years ago when Katie was little, like 3 or 4. I kept it on the covered wraparound porch of our 1800s victorian farmhouse, next to the front door. One day I came home from running errands and it was gone!!! Russell thought I was being ridiculous for calling the police (he was a cop and knew) but I still called in a stolen rabbit report. I felt so…violated, even though no one had come into the house. STILL. It was a terrible feeling.
I can’t even imagine having your home broken into (well, actually, when I was 3 or 4, our house was broken into, but my father caught the guy and, in my memory, tied him to a chair like in a cartoon. I’m not sure if the chair tying actually happened or if that’s just how I see it in my memory. Sister? She’s always good about pointing out the flaws in my memories. Anyway, I was so little, I don’t remember how I felt about it, and it’s probably different as a young child than as an adult anyway). End of story: Russell found me an (almost) identical concrete rabbit (the original had a little more detail in the concrete) and I’ve had it beside my front door ever since.

Yep, let’s blame that on Christmas.
I’m the richest woman in the world
Back-story: Like any normal child, I always loved Lucky Charms cereal…but for the marshmallow stars, hearts and moons, not for the cereal. So I’ve always said, I would know when I was really rich, when I could pay someone to pick out the marshmallow charms for me and throw out the cereal and I could enjoy just the charms.
So imagine my delight when my niece and nephew sent me, not one but two, giant bags of crunchy marshmallow bits for Christmas! It was a very nice surprise when I got home Christmas morning after dropping Katie off at the airport at 6:15am to return to San Diego.
To be sure, this is a lifetime supply of magically delicious goodness. And it will be gone by February.

After a quiet day Wednesday (aka, The Day After Christmas), my friends and I went to Queens Museum on Thursday…you’ll see more about this in a post later this week.
We didn’t get to the Hall of Science, but the building was really cool at night.
Buddha watched over us as we had dinner.

Went to Nassau County Museum of Art on Saturday to see two exhibits: 1) Wild Kingdom: 100 Hundred Years of Animal Art and Hunt Slonem: Eden Never Ends, and 2) A Mirror to Nature: Sculpture by Marko Remec.
I’d not heard the name Hunt Slonem but when I saw his repeating rabbits, I recognized the theme from a wallpaper in a restaurant at which I ate not that long ago, so that was a fun discovery.
A Mirror to Nature. This installation was a little Tellatubbyish. I liked it.
Doesn’t everyone have a bicycle Christmas tree in their yard?
BILLY!!! PHONE!!!!
Always try to see water if I can.
Oh gosh, this was LOOONNNGGG!!! Well, next week WON’T be, so hopefully it will all balance out.
This the last Week in Review of 2018…wow…lots of changes this year, not to be a downer, but they were mostly not for the better. Hopefully, things will pick up in 2019. Fingers crossed. Happy New Year, everybody!!!

Love the rabbit by the door. Always love your water pictures. And, love your marshmallow charms – what a delightful and thoughtful gift.
I can’t believe 2018 is almost gone. Time just flies by these days. Pray 2019 is a better one for you.
Grace & Peace, Iris

I can’t imagine not living near water. It feeds me, just spotting it helps release something in me.
Let’s hope 2019 is better for EVERYONE 🙂

Where is this magical BIKEMAS TREE? Happy New Year, Mochi!!

Sea Cliff. I wasn’t driving so not *exactly* sure what road we were one, but I think the main one that takes you through the little town, past the pink house, on the way to the memorial park. You know who would probably know is Katie R. I wish we were there later so you could see the light!

I wouldn’t have even thought to call the police to report the stolen bunny. I kinda think that anything I put outside is mine, but if someone else wants it, they must need it more than me. Maybe because there is no lock on the outside??
We have been broken into…twice. When I was young we lived on the end of a dead end street with woods behind us. The first time they stole paintings, and the second time they ransacked the house and only stole my piggy banks (and ate a banana). Crazy, right?
As for the Lucky Charms. You and I are one of a kind. I used to eat the cereal part first just so I could enjoy the marshmallow bits all by themselves in the bowl. Your niece and nephew are the BEST!!
XOXO

Ooh, the same house got broken into twice?? Gah. I get scared easy, I’d be so nervous staying there!
My niece and nephew ARE the best! I’m so far away from all my family, they’re so sweet to always think of me.

The Lucky Charms marshmallows made me giggle. I used to wish for a bag too. I honestly thought I was the only one. Have a peaceful 2019.

Apparently we’re *not* the only ones, as they SELL IT! Ha. Who knew?!?
Oh, peace. That is what I long for. Thank you for the good wish. You, too!

I know what you mean about feeling violated. I never had my house broken into, but someone once broke into my car. They didn’t take anything, but the glass from the broken window put a little ding in the leather on the inside of the door and for years whenever I caught sight of that ding I felt the anger and outrage all over again about somebody being in my car!
Great photos in this post, Bettye! What I love about you is your ability to see those little oddities in ordinary things, like the phone in the tree.
Wishing you the best for the coming year!
Maggie
