Turtleneck Love
I keep thinking I’ve shot every wintery outfit I possibly can and then I stand in my closet for a bit, holding items next to one another and realize But Wait! There’s More! Ha. I have bought a couple new things recently as they’ve gone on deep discount at the end of winter…and this burgundy turtleneck is one of them.
I’ve been trying to add more turtlenecks to my wardrobe as I so love wearing them. I know their popularity has drifted in and out through the years, so they’re not always easy to find. But this past year they’ve been everywhere – roll necks, turtlenecks, mock necks, all the necks – and I’m trying to take advantage of their availability.
In the cold weather, there’s nothing better than having something up around your neck. If not a cozy scarf or a cat, then a warm turtleneck. I know many people who really don’t like them, not the way they feel or look. But I have always adored them! But it has to be a snug fit. None of these mamby-pamby loose, floppy collars. They have to have good “bounce-back” stretch, so all the pulling them on and off over your head doesn’t render the neck too stretched-out and limp.
This one is nice because the body has a boxy shape and swingy fit. I like loose things that float away from my tummy. And the rich color is a nice change from my usual greys and browns.
I’ve combined it here with my favorite mushroom cardigan and this scarf that ties the two colors together so perfectly. It was a mild enough afternoon that I was comfortable just with the turtleneck, cardi and light scarf. Spring is not too far off!
I’ve about had it with winter clothes (how about you?) and keep hoping that SOON I can start sharing some lighter, springier looks!
We shot in a town where there was a St. Patrick’s Pub Crawl going on. I’m not so crazy about this picture of me, but love all the “crawlers” in their St. Paddy’s finest…and the guy who wanted to be our friend….
Hello, Friend!
If you can also see my left earring was juuuust about to pop out of my ear. After we shot, we went into a shop, went for a little drive, jumped out for a sunset shot, then went to dinner. Read: Many opportunities to lose an earring. When I got home that night and got changed for bed, I realized my earring was gone! These are my favorite earrings! They match my lamp! I was so sad.
BUT….my girlfriend found it the next day in her car! Yay!

LOVE the outfit – and absolutely, positively love turtlenecks. I’ll take the tight ones, the “mamby-pamby loose, floppy collars” – any of them. I have a problem with my neck being cold, so cannot wear anything in the cooler/cold months that doesn’t hug the back of my neck – and there are tons of tops out there that fit that description.
Love your scarf and cardi also. I always love seeing pretty scarves on other people – they drive me nuts. I need to figure out a way to wear them as they can add a nice touch of color.
I’m just SO ready for warm weather….

Try narrower, more silky scarves as a “gateway” in. I don’t like when they’re too puffy and fluffy, myself. This one leans in that direction, but Katie gave it to me and it goes so nicely with the two wine-colored things I own.
Getting a little warmer here this week. Yesterday was 62 but today back down in the 40s and windy (and I have the crazy-looking photo shoot to prove it!).

I’m so glad you found your earring….that has happened to Nancy a couple of times and she’s been SO lucky to find them. Do you not wear the little clear backing?? I only started doing that after losing so many? Especially when wearing a scarf, that ends up on and off so much.
The turtlenecks are perfect for our winter too. Yet it always surprises me how many people say they can’t wear them….I don’t think I’d survive without them!!
XOXO

SOMETIMES I wear the little rubber stoppers. Right now I am stopperless as I have not discovered my “everyday jewelry” cache since moving. I’m working with 2.5 pairs of earrings at the moment, and no stoppers. But yeah, scarves and turtlenecks always push french wire earrings out of my ear. I usually touch the earrings a million times cuz I’m so conscious of them slipping out…but I guess during the shoot I wasn’t thinking of that. Usually, I DON’T find them (hence, 2.5 pairs of earrings).

Yay for the earring only going for a small adventure! And I love turtlenecks in the winter — no breeze going down the back of your neck. I did get your sweet picture for the blog birthday so I’m going to be using it. Thank you! Also, did you know when I get your email notifying me of a new post the sender is wordpress? There is a way to change that so the sender if Fashion Schlub or Bettye or whatever you want. I was able to do it for mine, though I can’t quite remember how, but I could look in my settings to see if there are any clues if you so desire.

Oh, thanks for letting me know. I thought at one point *I* was subscribed to my own email so I could see how they were coming through but I don’t get them anymore. IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!

Hooray for the new friend! hahaha!!
You look good in a turtleneck. I like the look of them, but I have such a short neck that my head almost appears to sit directly on my shoulders LOL. I did find a great cowl neck sweater early in the season. I love it when cowl neck come back!
