Everything’s starting to feel a little crazytown over here. My time is filling up, my apartment is filling up. My car is over-filled up.

I’m still bringing things over from the garage at the old apartment – mostly outdoor things. The other half of that…rust-colored thing is in the back. I’ve been lugging it around since I sold my house (along with three old concrete planters, one of which you see here). I’ve always wanted to have a shady spot to set it in, to put a large boston fern in the top (one of those large plastic hanging pots would fit perfectly). I keep dreaming of having this perfect, cozy outdoor space. I *really* want a balcony. Anyway, all these things are large, heavy and awkward to carry, so it’s been slow-going in getting them out and up the steps to the patio.

Ha ha ha ha ha nope. I thought this bird sweater was so cute on the Gwynnie Page, but it was not a good fit on me.

And then it was Storage Day. Which was a comedy of errors. From the young man I’d hired off Nextdoor Neighborhood (same place I got my sofa moving guy AND this apartment) forgetting to bring his hand truck, to his failing to mention that his 4×8 trailer was actually open with only 12″ high sides so we could only put boxes in one layer deep, to THAT GUY failing to secure the screw-dowel things to the bookshelves when he took it apart a few years ago before they went to storage, etc. BUT we managed to get it all done, but in double the anticipated time and with me carrying just as many boxes as he did, and filling my car up even more…and now, to a mountain of boxes in my living room as they are not neatly stacked on the bookshelves as I had planned. So I’m feeling a little claustrophobic now in my home.

I’ll show you around a little bit. This is the alcove in the living room where the two large bookcases are meant to go on the back wall with boxes stacked on them as I go through them in an orderly fashion over the next few months, selling what I can and donating the rest. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to locate the missing hardware. They’re from discontinued Ikea Lack bookcases I bought ten years ago. Ikea.com doesn’t have them, nor did Amazon or eBay…and I’ve been to two local hardware stores (not a Home Depot yet, but I will). I called Ikea but you get a main office and she said they don’t have them in stock but I can try the local store. But you can’t CALL the store, you have to go there. Now, I love Ikea stuff as much as the next person, but the stores are a nightmare. Plus, there’s not one close and I really never go to that area. So, I’ll need to make a special trip there this week and I don’t even expect to find the pieces I need when I get there. I’m starting to reconsider putting the bookcases together at all!

Ugh. I can’t wait to get these all into the alcove.

View from the sofa. Look, Nancy, I unpacked some books!

The mess is spreading. This is why I put off unpacking AND emptying storage for so long. There’s more stuff than there are homes for it so things just start piling up.

Even into the bedroom.

The good news is I’ve already started ebaying things off. The bad news is my bedroom slash office is turning into Ebay Central.

Some things I sold last week:

Vintage cast iron rabbit hood ornament. I don’t remember where I got this, but it was at a time when cars still had hood ornaments and I always hoped to someday put it on my car. How cute would that have been? Sold for $20.

Revo Hair Styler from the 90s. I bought one for myself and it was so fabulous I had the good sense to buy second one while they were still commercially available. Now they sell like hotcakes on ebay. Sold for $40.

Vintage hat that had been my mother’s. I love it and have had it hanging on one wall or another for many years…but…it’s not making the cut in the “will it fit in my car when I move to California” test, so. It sold for $25. It probably would have gone for considerably more but it has several holes in the straw.

I think I have a picture of my mother wearing the hat somewhere. On a slide. In a box. Somewhere. At least now I know that everything I own is here in this apartment. Or in my car. I gave a friend a boogie board out of my car in a parking lot the other day. I feel like a weird stuff drug dealer. Need a 4′ wrought iron wedding floral stand? I got one right here. Know how you’ve been looking for a wooden sign that says “Irish Coffee House” on it? Here ya go. Haven’t you been wanting to read that Tina Fey book Bossypants?? Here, take my copy.

I have more stuff listed now on my Dragonfly Vintage Clothing site. If you’re interested in totally random stuff, feel free to check it out.

I watched Ghost Town with Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinner and Tea Leonie. Very sweet and likable. Currently streaming on Amazon Prime for $3.99. Two thumbs up.

Did I buy anything? YES! New sneakers! Woohoo! I ordered them online so fingers crossed they fit as well and feel as good as the Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers I’ve been wearing for the past 2+ years!

I’m on the hunt for a new pair of sunglasses. These looked nicer in person. In the picture they look ginormous.

Let’s all say a Happy 3rd Blog Birthday to our friend Julia at When the Girls Rule!

So, one night this week was storage-emptying and one evening was dinner out with friends. The rest was just being home working on the blog and ebay. No fun this weekend as there’s too much to do, though I did lie in a bit late this morning, reading. I’m reading The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. It seems odd that I’d never read it before this, as that is a favorite time period of mine to read about. That sounds gruesome but I don’t know how else to say it. And better to read about it and learn and know what people experienced than to not know, which is really how I went through most of my life. School didn’t stick with me much. Anyway, it’s so not what I was expecting, but I’ll give more of a review when I’ve finished.

That’s pretty much it for this week. The week ahead is a weird one as next Saturday is our big dinner dance fundraiser, which means I have to try to get a lot of next week’s work done this week so I don’t fall behind. And I’ll only have one weekend day off.

Have a good week, everyone!
