Workday Wardrobe ~ Oct 5-9 2020
monday
Never left the building. I hate getting dressed for no reason (thanks, Mommy). Hence, no picture.
tuesday
Was hoping for a cool day so wore a cozy cardigan but it was way too warm in the building to leave it on. I can’t wait til payday so I can finally buy new sneakers! And watch, I’ll hate them 🙂 and go back to wearing these. Just like I did with the black Adidas/Skechers, ha ha.
I give the outfit 8.1/10. In theory, it works. But the sneakers are a little grungy and the cardigan a little too large. I bought it last year; started with a 3x, it was way too big on me, exchanged it for a 2x and was like…it’s still kinda big (and not in a cute, oversized way, but in a “dressing up in Mom’s clothes” way), but I wanted the darn thing already and didn’t want to wait through another whole “return/rebuy” cycle. So. And now I really wish I had it one more size down. It’s not even so much the body of the sweater as the arms. I’ve learned in the past year or so that I need a slim-fitting arm. A too-full sleeve is a fit issue that makes me feel really frumpy. Need to add that to the “Do Not Buy” list (if it’s not already there)
On a brighter note, it was a pretty good hair day.

You know how we’ve talked about having items of clothing you love, but never wear? This is a perfect example of a shirt IÂ hate, but wear all the time! For many years! Probably six years. I think the “space-dye” grey is ugly and (you know what’s coming) I HATE THAT GIANT NECK HOLE! You know how I am about a big neck hole.
BUT – it’s comfy, it never looks dirty even when I spill on it, and the sleeves are super long. It’s perfect for weekends, cleaning projects, or doing sweaty things.
Come to think of it, the ugly space-dye grey looks just like my hair.
Top: Target Ave & Viv, 3x. OLD.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans in Callisto wash, size 22 short, self-cropped
Shoes: Keds Champions, canvas
And that be another week. Anyone interested in giving me a challenge for next week? I’ve been a little uninspired only going into the office a couple days a week and never really seeing anybody.

I wear printed tops all the time , just because I spill all the time and the patterns usually save me. They hide the spot! Don’t be so hard on that Friday top, it does its job! I actually don’t think it is a bad top on you!

YES! Some designer could be winning with a line of “invisible stain” prints!
I love white shirts and have several…but I don’t wear them as much as I’d like because I’m all “I”m just gonna spill on it,” and then it’ll go in the hamper for three weeks til I can get to the laundromat. Better (on some planet) to just not wear it in the first place 🙂

I think I have that same gray shirt that I hate, yet wear a lot. For all the same reasons. I think it looks good on you though!
bettyewp
Ha ha, that’s funny 🙂 “Shirts That Suck But We Wear Them Anyway” ha ha ha ha ha.

Your loves and hates make me laugh. I’m laughing at how you fixate on such small things – and then I realize that the reason I’m laughing is because I do exactly the same thing. I went to a store the other day and used your principle of “what I DON’T need”. I resisted so many things because they’re repeats of what I already love and have and did not find a single thing of “what I DO need”. Those are so much harder to find and I usually soothe myself with something I don’t need so I at least go home with something. I’m proud of myself that I came home with nothing. But now what? HA! Enjoy the weekend!

Ha ha. Yeah, I think most of my closet “mistakes” are when I lowered my standards and bought “a reasonable facsimile” thereof when I couldn’t find the item I EXACTLY liked but needed to complete an outfit (mistake). I never end up liking it very much as I still have a vision of The Perfect Thing in my mind, and my purchase never holds up to that. Then I resent it for having spent money on it. And it brings me ANTI-JOY to wear it. And as soon as I find The REAL thing, I get it, and now I have an almost duplicate, less liked item in my wardrobe…and who wants that??
Sometimes small things are small things…but sometimes they can affect an item/outfit in a big way.

For a theme, what about – –
-giving summery clothes one last hurrah — provided that the weather cooperates, of course!
-all monochrome outfits – maybe with one accent, or not. Would that be boring?
bettyewp
I do love monochrome looks, I just don’t have a lot of components to make that go for a whole week. I can easily put together one, two, maybe even three all-black outfits. I’ve done the white jeans/cream v-neck several times already this season. I can’t think of what else I can combine to be consistently creative. I could probably do a week of all-black outfits. It’s a 4-day work, maybe I’ll give that a go. My one friend, She Who Shall Remain Nameless, will be so proud, ha ha!
I just looked at the weather…I could do a week of “make a fall outfit with a summer item.” And save monochromatic for another time, maybe when I have more things that lend themselves to that.
Thanks for the suggestions, Marceline!

Marceline had some great ideas!! I was going to say, pull out the piece you do hate and wear them. But instead of saying what you hate about them, say what you like about them. haha!!

Ohh, Jodie – what a good idea! Sounds like something we all could take a stab at!!
bettyewp
Haven’t gotten to Jodie’s idea yet, I got so behind in everything this weekend and am playing catchup with comments but apparently, I’m working backwards 🙂

Well, I kinda did that in the spring/early summer. I was trying to wear “things I never reach for” for work from home to help me decide if I wanted to keep them or let them go. There were a couple “workday wardrobe” posts that featured that. And, after my recent seasonal wardrobe cleanout, I (hopefully!) don’t HAVE anything in there I hate. +++++ I actually just got up and looked at everything hanging in my fall/winter wardrobe…and while there is nothing I HATE, there are several items I don’t reach for as regularly, all due to fit issues. So when I wear them I just don’t FEEL as confident cuz my (and yes, I do still have some) body issues keep banging on the door. Really the only thing I just don’t like to wear that often that is NOT related to a fit issue is that cinnabar/cinnamon/rusty orange swing dress…but even that, I’ve already worn twice this season. Ironically, I think the reason I no longer feel love that is because it’s TOO roomy. Three years ago when I got it I NEEDED the room so I was appreciative of it. Now, many more things fit well, things I like better.
But I do plan to continue “rating” all my outfits in Workday Wardrobe, the good and the bad…so that’s sort of that same idea 🙂
I have such a hard time letting go of STUFF (I’m looking at you, boxes and boxes of antique transferware dishes), that it’s sort of a relief that I feel much easier about letting go of clothes.
Iris
Well my opinion – for what it’s worth. You do not look frumpy in the cardigan. I think it looks great and does not look too big!!! So there!!!!
