Plus Size Nordstrom Trunk Club Try-On
I resumed my Trunk Club subscription in the hopes I’ll find some things off my shopping list. As always it was a bit of an adventure. There’s an 18-minute video at the bottom if you want to see them in action and hear more details.
Spoiler Alert: I’m actually keeping something!
CASLON RIB FUNNEL NECK SWEATER $39 SIZE: 3X COLOR: BURGUNDY STEM
This FELT so nice. Very thin, nicely draping stretchy soft fabric. I like the color. The body fit was good. Just the funnel neck collar was not good on me.
CASLON RIB FUNNEL NECK SWEATER $39 SIZE: 3X COLOR: BLACK
This is the exact same top as the purple one above. That’s annoying. Don’t send me two of the same things, Nordstrom! Ugh. If it had been a good turtleneck it might have stayed here with me.
THE WINNER! This is thin, drapey, stretchy, soft, with A PERFECT CREW NECK COLLAR (remember this moment, it may never happen again). The only downside is loose sleeves. But it had me at crew neck…I couldn’t pass that up, saggy sleeves or no.
J.CREW MARGOT CREWNECK RE-IMAGINED WOOL SWEATER $79.50 SIZE: 3X COLOR: HTHR CAMEL
CASLON BELTED LINEN-BLEND JACKET $69 SIZE: 3X COLOR: NAVY CROSSDYE
Uhm, fit much? LONG BAGGY SLEEVES MUCH?? Linen in November? Come on, Nordstrom. I expect more from you.
MARC FISHER LTD YALE CHELSEA BOOT COLOR: BLACK CROC LEATHER AND SIZE: 9.5
My ankle boot hell continues. These were actually lovely. Too lovely for the likes of me. They’re for a FASHUN GIRL. With their pointy toes. And high price tag. They were like $198. But they were pretty. Maybe in my next life.
BELLA VITA LORRAINE STUDDED BOOTIE COLOR: DARK TAN LEATHER SIZE: 9.5
Uhm. I don’t like these in theory. But I kinda liked them on me. But the fit wasn’t ideal and they’re just not quite right. But they gave me hope…when I thought all hope was gone for me to ever ever have a pair of cognac ankle boots.
HABITUAL BRODIE JET SET STRETCH CROP TROUSERS COLOR: JET BLACK SIZE: 24W
Oh. Oh! Hello, nice black trousers WITH WORKING POCKETS! Hello! They long to be mine, but…they’re $99. So I’ll put them in my Shoptagr and wait for them to go on sale and snatch them up them.
NIC+ZOE ‘WONDER STRETCH’ HIGH RISE STRAIGHT LEG PANTS COLOR: MUSHROOM SIZE: 24W
HA HA HA HA HA HA. Oh Nordstrom, you’re such a card. REALLY with these pants?? Color, nope. Length, nope. Pull-on waistband, nope.
So, I’m the proud owner of a cream crew neck sweater. Purchase #2 from Nordstrom Trunk Club – after like a year.

LOL that last shot. But those are GREAT boots, and I put them on my wishlist. I need leather boots that I can walk in. 🙂
I hope the black pants go on sale, and you get to have them soon. They look really nice on you!!
I would love to try one of those “send me a box of stuff” services, but I already buy too much, and the temptation to keep everything I like would be too high. It does look like a lot of fun, though!

Honestly, it has not taken that much self-control to not buy stuff in the trunks cuz most of the things are so off-base for me. Out of maybe 6 trunks I’ve had in the past year or so, I’ve only bought two things – the navy JCrew slacks…and the cream knit top from this post (that I’m actually wearing today!).
Yeah, the black ankle boots I’ve been looking at for REAL wearing and walking, keep getting sold out…so I’m waiting, waiting…last year I bought a pair of dark dark olive green ankle boots – they really didn’t read “green” at all, they were more like blackish-sludgy-taupey-brownish-green which sounds horrible but was actually wonderful in their “unnoticeable, non-specific-color-ness,” which is one of my favorite color types. It makes them go well with EVERYTHING. Anyway, they had that same issue as most ankle boots do for me, the top circumference is tight around my shin and presses into the front of my leg, sometimes painfully, sometimes just unattractively, making a dent there – and they had to be returned. Anyway, the point was, I’m trying to wrap my head around maybe not having BLACK ankle boots for everyday wearing, but some other dark, nondescript color.

Well at least you found something. They did that with me too sending me something out of my budget. I mean, I understand upselling, but at least wait until we have a good relationship first.

Ha ha, I thought you were going to say “at least wait til after you buy me dinner!”

I like those black pants on you, too. Not for me, though…I absolutely hate pockets. I think they add size to my hips that I don’t need, and I’ve never met one yet that laid truly flat.
bettyewp
I know what you mean about “hip padding” pockets…and either these were hidden under the top or they were just not doing that…but I didn’t notice these being unruly.
Iris
Glad you found something. I’d have bought the first one with the neck you didn’t like. Those are the neck types I look for and have difficulty finding. My neck is ALWAYS cold in the winter and crew necks are frequently called that, but aren’t really.
Fun fashion how though, and I can sure relate with the shoes/boots. The bane of my existance!
Grace & Peace, Iris

So are you looking for turtlenecks, mocknecks or funnel necks?
Iris
Funnel necks and mocknecks are my favorites.

Hi Bettye,
That’s great if you found a pair of pants whose pockets are truly flat and will stay that way through washings!
I’ve never been so lucky. I wear J.Jill “yoga” pants with no pockets. They’re actually dressier than yoga pants, but I can’t remember what they call them. No pockets and color fast…yay!!
Have a good week,
Christen

Washing?? Oh, no no no. I don’t wash trouser-type pants. Jeans, yes, cuz I’m always wanting them to shrink up from their stretched out ways. But trousers/slacks only go to the dry cleaner, I can’t afford to have them shrink, they’re too hard for me to find. Plus, pants (and sweaters!) get washed/dry cleaned VERY infrequently. I should do a garment care post.
J Jill makes nice things 🙂
