Inspired by: Sense for Style by Ina
Each month I’m going to be sharing a person or trend that inspires me to create new outfits from my own wardrobe or add something new.
This month I want to share an Instagram account I’ve followed for several years now: https://www.instagram.com/senseforstylebyina
Ina has immaculate, minimal style. The individual items are simple but modern. She keeps a very clean palette of mostly black, white, cream, grey and blue denim. Other than black and white stripes, I don’t recall ever seeing any prints.
I’m constantly making notes from her Instagram feed of what items in my own closet I can put together to create a look similar to hers. Sometimes a combination of things isn’t obvious until you see someone else do it.
Here (above), while black cream camel seemed so obvious once I saw it, for some reason I hadn’t actually put them together even though I had all the right pieces hanging in my closet. I added the leopard flats as I don’t have brown booties…and the leopard scarf as my camel coat is a cooler, lower saturation, less of a contrast with the cream sweater underneath and I thought it needed just a little something more.
I think Ina is the person who really inspired my black converse purchase and, as you know, they are now my most worn shoe.
Also, while I know it’s been done for years (#dressinglikeateenageboy), she was the one who really made me want to wear hoodies (period) under jackets. I’ve been on an unending hoodie buying-returning loop but have not found Just The Right One yet. It needs to be loose enough to layer over something, but thin enough to be comfortable layered under a coat or jacket…but not SO thin that the collar/hood lay flat. Oh, it’s hard being me 🙂
I tried to emulate her white-on-white look…I think hers is better with the just off-white jeans but…this was the closest I had. I always have a hard time with white-on-white (#looklikeanursemuch?) but her look was so great that I gave it a shot.
This lovely soft sage green is one of the colors I’m obsessed with right now…
She does layering extremely well…and serving up details like a casually rolled cuff to show a glimpse of an underneath layer.
What I find most pleasing is that even though the palette and styles of clothing are simple, the wardrobe never seems boring to me but always feels modern and fresh.
I have a folder on my Instagram account called “style inspo” and she is probably in there more than anyone.

Did you change your blog comment set up? It looks different.
I like her style and I’m far from a minimalist. But everything looks so clean and classic. I love the hoodie and blazer look too. I saw a guy wearing it last winter and was like Hey, now! I cannot pull it off though.

The whole blog was updated recently. Would love your feedback on it and the comment set-up.
I think you have to try different combinations of hoodie:jacket to find what works for you; they all”relate” (?) differently? Or maybe it’s just not for you 🙂
But I’ve learned that I need to try many of what is essentially the same thing, to find what really works for me. Like necklines! It took me like 59 years to understand what kind of neckline works for me – it’s not enough to just say “crewneck” (or whatever). That’s like saying “human.” Every brand, size, fabric, era has a different version of “crewneck.”
Style. It’s complicated yet so fascinating.
