Nordstrom Trunk Club: Spring Plus Size Try-On Haul
For the past few months I’ve been declining my Nordstrom Trunk Club boxes because the previews were so off the mark I was just like PASS.
In theory, it’s a great service. It’s a monthly “try things out” subscription, that’s free of charge if you have a Nordstrom credit card. If you don’t, then it’s $20/month, but that $20 will go towards any purchases you make.
However, I seem unable to get a stylist who really gets what I like/need. I send VERY thorough descriptions of what I do and do not like, what I do and do not need, my price range, what sorts of things fit my body and what doesn’t.
I also share Pinterest board after Pinterest board. Winter inspo, spring inspo, colors, etc.
And then I get the previews and I’m like WHAAAATT? Ha. And yes, there’s no cost and even shipping and return shipping is free, but I hate wasting all that energy, resources, etc., on things that will probably not be a good fit for me.
I let this one through cuz I was able to find ONE THING I’ve wanted to try – a light blue tie-dyed buttondown from Sanctuary (home of the leopard cardigan and red plaid button-down). But they won’t send a trunk for just one thing, so…I added a couple things myself (you can only choose from the choices offered to you – it’s sort of a “this or that” situation) and let them surprise me with a couple things.
And it went like this….
Note: cuz I’m a big dumb dummy, I TOTALLY forgot to take pictures and only did video, so…sorry. I feel like people don’t always want to sit through a 15-minute video, so I’m going to post these as individual clips so if you only want to see a couple of the items you don’t have to watch the whole video.
Here are the “real” pictures of the things that came in the trunk.
Sanctuary Tie Dye Long Sleeve Button-Up Boyfriend Shirt & Madewell Sidewalk Low Top Sneaker
Caslon Cotton Linen Open Front Cardigan
This is actually also available in a pretty sage green.
BP Crop Graphic Hoodie
Treasure & Bond Dip-dye Boyfriend Shirt
Levi’s 501 High Waist Crop Length Straight Leg Jeans & Olga Berg Caylee Wooden Bead Handle Clutch
The one where I rant about button-fly jeans.
Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck tee Shirt
Sorry about the unfortunate lighting/exposure throughout. I still struggle with video.

My god, the button fly! What the Sam Hill. Because what I think every morning when I get dressed and all day when I go to the bathroom is, I’m sorry that this process of closing up my pants isn’t more difficult, frustrating, and time-consuming. I’m surprised they didn’t send those jeans with no closure at all, just a needle and some thread for you to sew yourself into them every morning.

Ha yes! I kept thinking, if I could get into them there was no way I would drink ANYTHING all day cuz…UNBUTTONING and REBUTTONING them? No. Just no.
The truth is I DID finally manage to get them all buttoned up. I buttoned buttons 2, 3, 4, and 5, and managed then to pull them up like that, then only had to redo the top button. But…to me, that did not bode well for the fit of the waist…and they were a little baggy in the seat, just from the little while of wearing them. So even though I did manage to get them buttoned properly I felt they were just not quite right…we’re headed into summer anyway, I already have black jeans…and I will revisit the washed black situation again in the fall. The truth is, I’m spoiled by the fit of the Gloria Vanderbilts. Nothing else works quite as well for me.
But seriously. Button Fly. WHY???

PS…have you tried Wantable or Fashom. I didn’t have much luck with trunk club either.

I’m the cavewoman who prefers button-fly jeans… And I cheat and lay down on the bed the first time I button them when they come out of the wash. Once they’ve been buttoned and worn, they button up just fine standing! All the draping long sweaters last year and this are making me crazy. You’re not a PITA. You just know what you want. That’s called being selective and honoring you. (But I do like that blue!)

Hha ha, I tried the laying on the bed trick but then I have a harder time just reaching the buttons. You Cavewoman, Me Short Arms.
“All the draping long sweaters last year and this are making me crazy.” Good crazy or bad crazy?
I did like the blue of that cardigan, too…and if I felt it would go with multiple outfits I might have kept it in spite of its “soft” shape…but. The color haunts me 🙂 I WOULD love a buttondown blouse that color.

Try sketches for your running shoes, they have some really adorable styles, not so teenagerish!!

I can only speak to the one pair of Skechers I’ve had, but they were TOO soft – something I didn’t think was possible with my painful feet. But they were like walking on marshmallows, and while that sounds kind of nice, it was really not good. They were more soft than stable.
That might have just have been the one style I had.
