Spring Wedding Guest Outfits: Plus Size & Otherwise
I have a wedding to go to in May. I so rarely have an occasion like this that I really have nothing appropriate to wear. On my best day I’m not a fancy dresser…so finding something wedding-appropriate is a challenge. I guess I have to suspend my “I want to dress like a boy” vibe for this. And dresses are SO much easier for me (fit-wise) than pants, that I think a dress is probably what I’ll end up in.
But let’s see what’s out there.
First I tried Anthropologie cuz they always have “special” things and I thought there might be something that could be dressed up for a wedding and dressed down for summer cocktails on the beach or a date. If that was ever a thing.
Then I thought maybe J. Crew as they have a more tailored style.
I tried Nordstrom…
And Nordstrom Rack.
Modcloth sometimes has interesting things…
And lastly, e-Shakti.com. The place where you can customize their basic styles. And there were a couple possibles…
So! What is your favorite? And which one do you think I chose (I did order one)?

I was wondering if you’d ever tried eshakti since you like certain details so much. I think their idea of being able to customize necklines, lengths, sleeves, etc is so brilliant especially for people who hate alterations!!
I hope you found one!!

I actually got one dress years ago and it was horrible, ha ha. BUT – in all fairness, at that time I only knew what I LIKED…I had not yet learned what WORKED.

Like Bobeau but says sold out.
The prices are amazing, here in Canada would be more than double

Oh wow!
Sally in St Paul
I love that navy/red print, but the ruffle on the bottom half might drive me crazy. I keep coming back to the purple/white plaid shirtdress because (1) it would look cool with sneakers and (2) it would look cool as a duster, neither of which are super wedding-relevant but would offer a way forward with the dress post-wedding. So I declare that one my favorite. Unfortunately weddings aren’t a great time for my favorite kind of dress–one that looks like a long t-shirt. I’m looking forward to the reveal of the dress you chose.

Ahh, that’s a good one. Has almost a 50s vibe to me. I can see it worn buttoned up at the bodice, but unbuttoned the rest of the way down the skirt, with a pair of purple slim-leg dupioni silk pants underneath and pointy-toe flats. Right? Like a 1950s Hollywood cocktail party hostess in her mid-century high-rise apartment (a la the second Mrs. Draper on Mad Men).
As soon as I placed an order for one, I saw something else on ANOTHER site that I need to give some consideration to…may end up ordering two things and returning one. The “new” one definitely is more post-wedding user-friendly.
