It was a week.

MONDAY

Peonies from Central Park’s Shakespeare Garden * May 9, 2021

This Monday not as delightful as last week. Today was workingasfastasIcould but for every task I completed, three more popped up in its place. I left work with a pile of unfinished work on my desk and I rarely do that.

Came home to an equally daunting to-do list.

Gotta go!

TUESDAY

Orange tulips make my heart happy, Central Park’s Shakespeare Garden * May 9, 2021

You know how when your ice tub is empty so you take the ice cube trays out of the freezer but they’re so frozen that it’s hurting your hands to try and twist them to get the ice out so you leave them on the counter for five minutes so they soften up enough to make it easier to get the ice out but it’s boring to just stand there in the kitchen and watch ice thaw (and god forbid you wash a dish) so you go sit at the computer “for five minutes” and watch one (or 4) BTS videos or update your list of what kdramas and bl series you want to watch or your ranking of those you have already watched (you would be SHOCKED at how much time I spend on this) and sometime later (two hours ish) you’re hungry/thirsty and you walk back into the kitchen and find ice cube trays filled with water sitting on the counter?? Or is that just me??

This happens a LOT.

I love ice. I go through ice Really Fast. I have eight ice cube trays but they’re teeny tiny little cubes. I love tiny ice. The Best Ice Ever was from the ice machine at the hospital where I was with all the stuff a few years back. I literally copied down the make and model, thinking maybe someday I, too, could have Perfect Ice at home.

But I digress.

The POINT was I had a revelation. You know how when you want ice cream but you take it out of the freezer and it’s too hard to scoop easily so you put it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it up (and no, I do not prefer the “warm the spoon under hot water before scooping” method)? WELL. I discovered I can put the rock-hard frozen ice cube trays in the microwave! I run it for 5 seconds at a time…it takes a surprisingly long time…longer than ice cream…but at some point (and you cannot leave them while you go do ANYTHING at the computer – you MUST babysit them), you have ice at the optimum temperature slash meltedness to pop out of the trays easily.

Mind.

Blown.

You’re welcome.

WEDNESDAY

Central Park’s Shakespeare Garden * May 9, 2021

You know my brain is fried cuz when I left for work this morning it was grey and a little misty, so I turned on my headlights and windshield wipers. Five minutes later the mist had stopped and the wipers were just screeching along the dry windshield. But I couldn’t turn them off cuz it’s THE LAW (and we all know how law-abiding I am HA HA HA) that when you have your lights on you have to have your windshield wipers on.

It took me FIVE MINUTES to realize, NO, DUMMY….it’s you have to have the HEADLIGHTS on if you have the WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON!!! Guh.

Dazed and Confused.

ALSO, I Am The Mother of a Thirty-Year-Old. How is THAT a thing?!? Katie’s birthday today.

Also, 3-year anniversary of losing my boy. I still miss him so much.

THURSDAY

Central Park’s Shakespeare Garden * May 9, 2021

Work by day.

Crash on sofa at night.

The End.

FRIDAY

Macy*s, midtown Manhattan * May 9, 2021

This long week is OVER. Our big virtual fundraising event went live tonight and so far (knock on wood) there are no issues. Now we just hope it does well.

FIGHTING!

I grabbed dinner on the way home, it was late, came home and crashed on the sofa with a sausage parmesan hero and a kdrama. At one point I dozed off and when I woke up, thought, “ohhh I need to go to bed, I need to get up early for work.” BUT THEN. I remembered I DON’T have to get up early for work and OH THE JOY. The RELIEF.

I am slightly panicking for two reasons:

  1. Somehow my identity is involved in an unemployment insurance fraud thing? Apparently, this is a thing now and I know others in the same situation. I alerted The World that it is not ME filing for unemployment, *I* am me, NO ONE ELSE is me. But I think I have to go to the bank and change my account number and all that nonsense. Stupid adulting.
  2. My dress-for-the-wedding (that is next Friday) that I ordered on April 21 is STILL not here and now I barely have time to get a backup. Not to mention I JUST LOOKED through all the plus size dress sources in the land and really only liked the one I ordered. So I have to go through THAT search all over again.

Hit 49 for the 4th time (jump-rope). Still have not gotten past that.

SATURDAY

BTS is marking GOLD. Whatever they touch, wear, eat, endorse – SOLD. It’s IN. SANE. Jungkook did a “live” a few weeks back and he had a bone to pick with fans (in good humor). After drinking a bottle of lemon-flavored Teazen kombucha on a previous live, the flavor sold out in Korea immediately. The company reported their sales grew 500% that week after Jungkook was seen drinking the lemon kombucha. In the meantime, Jungkook himself cannot get any of his favorite drink…because HE caused it to sell out!

“The Kombucha. Everyone! The lemon flavor. I wasn’t able to get it. Aren’t you way too fast? I was only able to get 2 packs. You bought all of them and they were sold out. I wasn’t able to get the lemon flavor.” Ha ha ha. Poor little rich boy. Just buy the company, Jungkook, and you’ll have all the lemon kombucha you want!

A year or so ago he mentioned using a particular scent of Downy laundry detergent, “Adorable.” GONE. In a very short time, there was none to be had ANYWHERE. To this day, I can’t find any anywhere.

Milk sales increased the week the original Dynamite music video was released. MILK. In the opening scene, Jungkook is in “his room” and drinks a glass of milk. Got Milk gave him a shout-out.

There are whole social media accounts devoted to tracking down where all their clothes from (I’m obsessed) and pretty much as soon as the info is shared, items are sold out. Not the $3000 socks, but the $200 t-shirts, for sure. Then the knock-off companies start making “faux BTS wear” and THEY sell out (not to mention, they’re mostly sold as “one size,” and that size is never MY size, boo).

Jimin recently mentioned loving spicy ramen and I panicked cuz this is now a mainstay in my diet. This was the brand that was SO HOT it was painful for like hours. But once I learned to cut the sauce with whipped cream cheese, it’s perfect. The perfect food. It’s fast and easy, it’s filling and satisfying (SO much flavor), and it’s CHEAP. A pack of five is under $11. I quick ordered another two packs just in case the BTS Effect sold them all out. They WERE on back-order, but…at least so far, they’re not sold out.

Samyang Fire Hot Cheese Flavored Chicken Ramen Noodles Pack of 5, Korean Noodles

And NOW…they’re doing more commercial spots for things like Fila (workout gear/sneakers), some kind of massage chair, bed linens, Hyundai (so proud), water purifiers, and more.

The commercials are all a little cheesy (as commercials are), but hey. They’re really working it during their earning years, I can’t blame them. But this water purifier one is my favorites. They’re just all so lovely. Plus, I am now, literally, thirsty. You did well, BTS.

SUNDAY

Macy*s, midtown Manhattan * May 9, 2021

Finally got off the Island for the day. My friend (SWSRN) and I went into the city to Central Park, where we walked through the Shakespeare Garden.

Watched some girls getting into her wedding dress for her friend to take pictures. Sat on a bench in the shade and watched the people go by. My favorite activity. Walked through a farmer’s market and a little sidewalk flea market. I tried to buy a giant bunch of lilacs (Happy Mother’s Day to me) but I missed the last bunch by literally like 3 minutes.

We went to Macy*s to look at the “flower show” display and while we there my friend forced convinced me to look at dresses, because the dress I bought 2½ weeks for the wedding this coming Friday is STILL not here. Tracking says it was in New Delhi, India at 9:30 this morning. So, yeah, time for Plan B.

I did get something, so I will not be at the wedding in Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans and converse. It’s fine.

A woman gave us free yogurt samples outside of Macy*s so we sat down for a bit and had a snack to tide us over til we found a place to have actual lunch.

We had lunch in one of the “covid” structures that are lining many city streets now. I like them. It’s like eating insideoutside. I’ll be a little sad when they have to take them down.

We walked 3.5 miles…which is a lot for me.

In all, the day gets a 99.9/100, we only lost that 1/10% because we came to the bridge from the wrong direction and had to take the lower roadway. Upper roadway highly preferable. But other than that, there was no traffic going in, we found excellent parking spots everywhere we went, I found a dress for the wedding. Oh, it might lose another 1/10% because of the missed lilacs, but. Still. A good day.

The week ahead at work should be…calmer…now that the event is up. Fingers crossed.

And that’s a wrap. Hope everyone is doing well.
