Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ May 22-28
Another spring week, sharing my plus-size outfits. Nothing fancy, just normal clothes for normal days. Well, MY normal 🙂
SATURDAY
I wore this outfit last night to Cocktails on the Beach (minus the cocktails) but immediately put my hoodie on as it was damp and a little chilly. So I felt it could make a repeat appearance.
I’m actually surprised I like it as much as I do. I’m so weird about wearing white or other colors with white jeans (#thenursething). But I do like the white and taupe combo. And really don’t feel nursey at all. White sneakers would for sure push it over to the other side, but I’ve learned that lesson.
The jean length just makes it into the “okay with sandals” category. Anything longer or wider at the bottom would not work (to me).

Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, white, 20 short. 2021
Sandals: Birkenstock Arizona. 2020
SUNDAY
I’ll start off by saying this is a perfect example of too-long, too-wide-at-bottom pants not looking right with sandals. On ME. SO, I cuffed. I’m not a cuffer. I don’t like the way it looks on me (cuts my already short legs into smaller parts) and I’m bad at it. I’m bad at anything I need to be neat or precise or careful with.
I am happy to be able to wear my white linen shirt again. Expect to see it 12,893 more times again before it gets cold in the fall.

MONDAY
Damn! Ha. It’s Spirit Week at work/school today and tomorrow is “May Flowers.” I should have saved this shirt for then…I can’t think off-hand of anything floral that I can wear WITHOUT WHITE SNEAKERS!
And yes, I’m shouting about white sneakers cuz WHY IS THAT SO HARD?!? I have bought and tried on So Many and they’re just not…RIGHT. There are several things I NEED: easy to slip on (yet, not laceless “slip-ons), don’t need to be tied everytime (re-iterating the slip-on factor), a relatively low vamp (I hate when the tongue presses up against the front of my shin – it’s uncomfortable and unnattractive as it visually cuts my short legs even shorter), and apparently “not slim silhouette” needs to be added as I keep ending up with those. And it’s a given that it needs to comfortable with good padding and arch support, or at least room to accomodate an arch support insert.
Phew. I really wanted something a little substantial than my Keds Champions “skippy flats.” My ankles/calves are so large that a teeny little shoe just looks out of scale and awkward.
As much as I love my Converse Shorelines, I didn’t really want the white cuz they have a bold red line running around the sole and I just think that’s going to be a contradictory color to my summer wardrobe. Hee hee, contradictory color, I like that. I’m claiming it as my own.
HOWEVER, with my long-term lack of success in finding other sneakers, I bought a pair in the white. And as soon as I took one out of the box I was like well THIS isn’t right! It was so HEAVY. And guess what, they’re JUST LIKE THE REGULAR CONVERSE. I mean, they’re the Shoreline Slip-Ons that I wear and love, but they have the insole and sole of the concrete slab, uncomfortable regular Converse. What the heck? Why would the WHITE be different?
I spent the weekend trying to talk myself into them. Just put the arch insert in them, I said. I kept trying them on and walking around the carpetted apartment. And no, I just can’t do it. What a disappointment! Now I want to try some on in-store somewhere to see if this one pair was just a fluke or what.
ANYWAY, wow, that was a lot of words about white sneakers (and believe me, I have more, but I will spare you). Back to the outfit, ha.

TUESDAY
This top always makes me happy. I’ve had it since early 2016 or late 2015, I remember the day I shot it for the blog, I met up for the first time with another plus size blogger in Queens and it was FREEZING!!! We had three outfits each to shoot, which makes for a very long day.
Anyway, it has worn well, minus the one “drawstring” thingie that came off, that is SOMEWHERE (I mean, *everything* is *somewhere,* but). I know it’s moved from Brentwood to Northport to Centerport but at the moment I don’t know where it is or I would pretend I was about to sew it back on.
I like it with white, black, and blue jeans or skinnies.
And for those that say I’m afraid of wearing color?? I’m not.
One of my difficulties with warm weather dressing, is the lack of layers. Visually, I like the different items/colors/prints co-mingling with one another. So a lot of warm weather outfits seem dull to me cuz it’s just one layer (top or dress). But this particular top I never really feel that way with cuz it has its own interest going on.
4.95/5 (missing drawstring thingie)
PS – forgive poor pictures, my remote thingie is not working again. Ugh.
Floral Top: American Rag, 3x. 2016
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, white, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-ons. 2020.
WEDNESDAY
Yawn. This outfit is fine. I like (really like) this Loft top. Like, a lot. I think these are my last remaining pair of skinnies and I am quite fond of them (even though the fabric is not lovely and they have no actual front pockets). The shoes make my feet happy but are not fun to look at.
So I basically like all the components, but…the outfit is just a little lacking to me. It’s that “missing third piece” thing. I grabbed my thin Old Navy black duster cardi but it was just too warm to add a sweater layer (ac not on in building yet). I do not want a belt, scarf or long necklace. So what third piece?
I would maybe do a vest, if I could find one of those super oversized ones in my size. That’s the problem with “oversized” things, they so often make them only in one size or smaller sizes cuz they think, “oh this is SO GINORMOUS it’ll fit ANYONE,” but no. Their “oversized” will still not fit me at all.
SO many of the Korean/Japanese brands I look at are like that. They’re wearing a lot of oversized looks but the people are so petite to begin with. Even the plus-size brands I’ve found online are not really plus-size by western standards. That’s frustrating. I think I would get a lot of use out of an oversized knit vest.
Button-down: Loft, 3x. 2021
Skinnies: Charlotte Russe, 22 short. 2015
Flats: Aerosoles Betunia Flats
THURSDAY
I like to call this look “My Alarm Didn’t Go Off and I Woke Up an Hour Late so I Just Grabbed Any Two Items From My Closet I Hadn’t Already Worn This Week or Last.”
High Fashion right here, folks.
For that, I don’t think it’s awful. I do like army green with grey…this green is a little more sage (blue toned) than army but still. Late beggars can’t be choosers.
Not much more to say, ha ha.
Okay, there’s a LITTLE more to say. I would have PREFERRED my army green tee to this “fancier” shell with the little lattice peek-a-boo detail along the chest. That girly bit is killing the unbuttoned shirt boy vibe. Well, not KILLING it, but. Bringing it down a notch.
OH MY GOSH that reminds me! I had The Best Comment on a YouTube video! It was the Torrid Haul Try-on video from April? March? I forget. ANYWAY. I was my usual, “well, this shirt would be fine but this this and this, and this OTHER shirt is a definite no cuz of this and that and that,” etc., me just basically not ever liking ANYTHING 100%. And a woman commented about how all the shirts looked fine on me (uhm, A) WRONG) and then she goes…
I THINK YOU’RE A COMPLICATED PERSON
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha YA THINK?? ha ha ha I was hysterical. Literally could not stop laughcrying (at like 5am in bed Sunday morning).
She’s my new best friend and I don’t even know her.
That is all.
Button-down: Old Navy, 3x. 2020
Green Top: Loft Plus, 3x. 2019
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, Scottsdale wash, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-ons. 2020.
FRIDAY
Ahh, Friday. FRIDAY. And a quiet Friday, as the school is closed and only administrative staff are in. So, a casual day. I would have gone MORE casual but it’s also LAUNDROMAT (from hell) DAY so my options are limited.
Lilac v-neck that I like better over a white tee but I thought it was too warm for that. My second least favorite pair of jeans (I’m really selling it today, huh?), and the surprise shocker: CONVERSE.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.
3/5 for sheer boringness.
V-Neck: Cotton Emporium, 3x
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, Callisto wash, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-ons. 2020.

White sneakers are WAY harder than anyone wants to admit. I am always irritated when there is some other random color on them. I looked up the Converse Shoreline and NOOOO. I do not want a random red stripe on it! The white monochrome All Star low top has a nice look but those shoes are not comfortable (and do not meet your criteria on multiple fronts). On looks alone, the Josef Siebel Caren 01 is my favorite ($$). I also like the Superga but do I really want a big tag on the side that says “Superga” and adds random red coloration? No. The only white sneakers I have are an old pair of KSwiss that I wore while playing actual tennis and that are still somehow in good shape. But I have only worn them twice as street wear…both times with grey sweatpants, T, and hoodie to get my covid vaccine (and the first time, a young guy working at the hospital wearing a pair of retro cool Sam Smith sneakers looked at my shoes and gave me an upward man-nod in respect). I just can’t see wearing these somewhat big white sneakers with jeans or, heaven help us, a skirt.

Now the question is do you know WHY you’re a complicated person, LOL!!! That would be the best answer I bet.

Well, THAT is The Question! I’ll have to think on that. Do I have a glimmer of a thought? OF COURSE I DO. But I’ve never really fleshed it out.
