What I Bought: May
May was a calmer month, shopping-wise. My spring wardrobe is a little lean but feels okay. I’m worried about SUMMER HEAT but…that’s a little ways away yet. I’ll think about that tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day.
WHAT I KEPT
Old Navy Tee Shirts
Two Old Navy just regular old tees, one white, one black. They’re 100% cotton, which is NOT my favorite (I prefer something lighter and stretchier mixed in – rayon, spandex), but…they’re fine. They’re mostly for wearing under other things so a perfect fit is not AS crucial.
MSK Chaus Dress
This is not something I would have bought had my back not been up against the wall, with the out-of-state wedding just days away. That said, it’s a nice dress. I like the low saturated color print, it’s not uncomfortable anywhere, the neckline is fine. It was a good find and I’m sure I’ll wear it at other events. I just need SHOES for it.
STILL ON THE FENCE
Jessica London Linen Blend Drawstring Pants
These two linen wide-legged pants, one in “olive grey,” one in “bark.” They’re not The BEST fit, but I’m desperate for summer pants so I start lowering my bar. They’re SUPER long and MUST be hemmed…but before I take them somewhere for that, I just ordered two pairs of cropped length (which will be NORMAL LENGTH on me) linen pants from Old Navy. Fingers crossed they come in before I leave for Florida AND that thy fit (better than the Jessica London ones).
WHAT I RETURNED
Eshakti Embroidered Cotton Voile Dress, 22
It finally arrived 3 weeks after ordering, literally the day before I was heading to the wedding in Philadelphia. It was lovely but just a little too overall small. So it was a good thing I’d bought the other dress that day in Macy*s (actually IN Macy*s! In the CITY!!!). But I was disappointed because I really liked the dress…and I think one size up would be perfect, but now that I haver the Macy*s dress, I don’t really have a need for a second “dressier” dress.
American Eagle Cropped Cardigan, 22
I’ve been looking for a thing to wear over the green and white polka dot dress. The office is cool and a lightweight dress with short sleeves needs some help. Plus, the visual of JUST A Dress is not as appealing to me as A Dress with Something Over It. I’ve really been looking for a lightweight lilac cropped cardigan but that hunt was getting me nowhere, so when I saw this sort of dusty blue one, I thought MAYBE.
BUT. Ha. There’s always one of those. The fit was not great. And it was a little warmer knit that I really want for summer, so…back it went.
AE Fleece V-Neck Sweatshirt, XXL
I ALMOST kept this one. I LIKED it. I loved the color. I loved the boxy fit. The sleeves were long but not in a big baggy loose way. It’s downfall was that the v-neck was SO low it required something worn underneath and since I wanted this for summer, that seemed like not a good choice.
Come fall I’ll wish I still had it.
White Converse Shoreline Slip-On Sneakers
THESE were the biggest disappointment! I thought the several-year-long search for a white sneaker to wear with dresses was finally over when I ordered these. I was a little concerned about the red line around the sole but decided that should not be a deal breaker, considering how comfortable they are and how much I like wearing them. BUT. THESE Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons are NOT like my OTHER Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons! They have that same concrete slab sole of the regular Chuck Taylors. They’re heavy and not pleasant to walk in. And I just don’t understand why they’re so different – they’re the same make model serial number and yet…
Very Disappointing
White Keds Triples
I’ve been looking at these since last year. I’ve wanted something with a little more visual weight to them than my little white Keds skippy flats that I’ve had for years – and essentially worn for my entire life, well, since the early 80s when Dirty Dancing came out…
My ankles are almost always a LITTLE bit puffy…and it gets worse in warm humid weather, so I thought I more substantial-looking shoe would balance that a bit. And these have an extra thick sole so I thought they’d fit the bill. BUT. It’s such a NARROW shoe. Not narrow on my FOOT, but, visually, the shape is just slim. And that silhouette looks out of balance to me…on me. So, back they went.
WRAP-UP
It was a quieter shopping month. I needed the black and white tee, and I needed the wedding guest dress. But I didn’t do much “wishful” shopping this month. By next month it will be hotter and I’ll be crying WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO WEAR IN THIS HOT HOT WEATHER?! But for the moment I’m feeling content with what I have.
Well, except for white sneakers to wear with dresses. But.

The dress looks great, and I love those olive linen pants.

Great finds. I especially like the dresses and the cropped cardi. The embroidered dress had to have been worth the wait. It is just darling. I have Chuck Taylor’s in several colors. So slip-on and some not. None of them are terribly comfortable. And usually wear blisters when I walk in them for any length of time. Can’t wear no show socks with them because they scrunch down into the shoe. I suffer through for the sake of ‘fashion’ but not comfortably!!
bettyewp
The embroidered dress WAS darling, but it arrived too late to wear to the wedding, and it was just…a smidge too small overall. So it went back. But I still think about it.
The Converse are so weird. The “comfort” level seems to vary so widely within the same style.
Socks? What are those?? HA HA HA HA HA
