It was a week. There were clothes involved. Here they are.

SATURDAY

This look was inspired by Yayoi Kumaso’s orange and black pumpkin sculptures.

And you know I love a good pattern/color mix. Don’t know what else to say. I liked it.

SUNDAY

Okay. This Is A Test. This Is Only A Test.

I’ve been obsessed with the concept of vintage men’s rayon or silk Hawaiian shirts. This is not men’s OR either of those fabrics, but I picked it up at the thrift store a couple months to see if I liked the CONCEPT of a “mannish” short sleeve printed button-down worn unbuttoned over a tee shirt. And I do. This shirt in particular is not…what I had in mind. The saturated colors and very large leaf print is…a bit much for me. But I managed. I did like it with the taupe stripe tee underneath.

I put it on to go to the deli. An easy “emotional comfort” test as I was pretty confident I wouldn’t see anyone I know…and I would be back home shortly. I wasn’t stuck in it all day, like at work or out with friends.

It passed the vibe test more or less. Well, the CONCEPT did. I’m probably not in a rush to wear the foliage print shirt again. I DO like the fit. And it’s a nice drapey Tencel fabric, so I like that. We’ll see. Sometimes I keep taking bites of things I didn’t like at first taste. Like watermelon Sour Patch Kids candies.

ALSO, I’d prefer the top with different colored bottoms, but…I don’t think I own that color. Whatever it might be. I’m trying to be more open to more colors than just blue, black, white jeans. And other kinds of pants than just jeans. Fit gets harder for me when I venture outside denim, but. I’m trying.

MONDAY

It was back to work after vacation AND Monday AND drizzly, so…I went dark. “Pretend I’m Not Here,” is what I want my outfit to say today.

Black column base. Grey stripe “overpiece.” Easy-peasy, foolproof.

TUESDAY

Nothing much prompted this outfit other than it was supposed to be on the cool side so I took advantage of layering, and I haven’t worn the white jeans in a few weeks. Also, this top had been in the dirty clothes hamper for many weeks and it is freshly back from the laundromat.

So inspirational 🙂

I love mustardy tones with blue (blue and yellow are opposite one another on the color wheel, so they’re a pleasing contrast to one another), so. And the navy Converse tie-in with the blue chambray button-down. I tried on my cognac leather espadrilles I’ve had for a few years but I didn’t like the strong warm-toned gold/brown tones in two separate locations.

That whole “pop of color” thing, if I HAVE a “pop” (and I’m not much of one for popping) I usually like it to be just ONE. I feel like two strong color “attractions” on different parts of the body result in the eye not knowing where to go.

WEDNESDAY

I think I’ve worn this combo before. My still-kinda-on-the-fence about green floral shirt, ha. I’m on the fence, but I wear it tons. I love the color. I love the feel of the shirt – it’s a polyester georgette, so it’s lightweight and floats away from the body a bit. I HATE the cuffs. Ha. It’s a fit issue. It’s worse when I wear a cardigan over it (like today) cuz all the cuff fabric bunches up under the slim cardigan wrists and ANNOYS ME. And it’s not just a button move issue, there’d be too much extra fabric folded over still, it would need to be cut off…and then hemmed.

Too Big cuffs is a common complaint of mine. Neckholes, armholes, and cuffs. Argh.

So it looks fine in the picture cuz I’ve futzed and adjusted pre-click, but all during the day I’m constantly trying to do something with them. And I HATE futzing and adjusting.

I’m complaining an awful lot about an outfit I actually like, ha ha.

THURSDAY

Another repeat outfit, oh gosh, what is going on?

It’s a little warm today AND it’s our graduation day at school and I’ll be taking pictures for that. Outside at midday.

So. Loose-fitting rayon top for maximum airflow and coolness (if that’s possible). Sneakers for being on feet all afternoon. And white jeans worn twice in the same week??? What??

I always feel good in this top. I like the way it looks, I like the way it feels. Bam.

FRIDAY

FRIYAY. Oh the relief. Really…the week was fine…I’m just ready to feel unobligated to anyone besides myself all weekend.

I keep wearing THIS dress, when there are other dresses I want to wear…but I don’t have the right “over” things to wear with them. Well, one of them (THE Junarose dress) seems much more summery than our weather has called for so far this year. But the other ones need That Thing to put over them – a cropped cardi, etc. And without that, I would feel sort of…naked at work.

Anyway, I like the COLOR of this light blue cardigan with this dress. There’s actually a thin line running through the plaid that IS this color. What I don’t like is the lack of cooperation between the two collars. The cardi collar is SO BIG while the dress collar is neat and tidy up around my neck. I pulled it off TWICE this morning before finally just resigning myself to it.

This collar issue is part of the reason I’m trying to just get v- or open-front cardigans going forward, so there’s no problem.

If I was gonna be REALLY picky (and aren’t I always??), the cardigan is longer than I’d like for this dress. But who do I think I am? THE QUEEN?! I can’t have everything my way.

Dress: Junarose, size 22. 2019
