Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ Aug 28-Sep 3
It’s a vacation week so keep expectations low. There might be some nightgown-all-day days.
SATURDAY
Alrighty. Sick of my weekend dresses + sick of jeans equals leggings.
Also an example of column dressing. Black underlayer with a contrasting item over top. An easy-peasy formula for when you have no think.
Chambray Button-down: Charlotte Russe, 3x. 2016
Black Tee: Old Navy, 3x. 2021
Black Leggings: Old Navy, 3x, 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2020. It’s been a long time since I’ve worn the black ones and what a pleasure it was. They’re the most comfortable ones.
SUNDAY
My Favorite Outfit of Summer 2021. We all know it’s the favorite shirt. And now the wide-legged mustard gold linen pants? Navy Converse? I’m in my sartorial happy place.
I’m trying so hard to repeat this outfit – I mean, find other pieces that have the same vibe, fit, and feel of this outfit. I am DESPERATELY searching for plus-size, high-waisted, drapey, pleated, wide-legged trousers. THAT item is a rare unicorn.
Linen Shirt: J Jill, 4x, 2019. Can be found at QVC.
Linen Pants: Old Navy, 2x. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2021
MONDAY
Nightgown Day #1
TUESDAY
It’s still too hot to be wearing long-sleeved tees, but DAMMIT I’m tired of figuring out warm weather clothes and I’m just gonna wear a long-sleeved tee.
Striped Tee: Target, 3x. 2020
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 22 short. Self-cropped. 2019
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons
WEDNESDAY
This tee’s been in the dirty clothes hamper most of the summer so I figured I’d let it see the light of day after finally being washed. Didn’t go anywhere but had to put on clothes for Korean zoom class.
Tee: Old Navy, 3x. 2019
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Feet: Model’s own. 1960
THURSDAY
Nightgown Day #2
FRIDAY
Put on clothes just to go get lunch.
Olive Tee: ASOS, 3x. 2016
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2020
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons
Not a really innovative week. I’m so ready for some layering weather.

Those mustard pants are sooo good! I love those Old Navy linen wide leg pants. Luckily, they come in petite, or I’d have to chop off most of the wideness. I like the black leggings/column dressing, too. Hey, when you’re on vacation, aren’t you supposed to wear nightgowns?
bettyewp
I had two nightgown days! Ha. There’d have been more but I kept going out for food and…it’s KINDA required to wear actual clothes. Sadface.
Yeah, the mustard pants ARE petite! They’re actually supposed to be ankle-length CROPPED petite. But I have SUPER short legs.
And I bought the exact same pair in “flax” (light khaki) and they’re SO long, like can’t wear them at all long. Need hemming. Which, have I done that yet, now that summer’s almost over and I’ve already had the pants like two months now? I’ll give you three guesses.
Marsha Banks
Old Navy is notorious for different items fitting differently. I read somewhere that it’s because they cut so many in one go, and the fabric on the bottom of the pile is always going to be cut a little bigger just because of the way the knife (or whatever) cuts on the way down.
Hemming is the pits, I know. I had a friend who was astounded I even knew how to do it. But, flax will be good all year long so when you finally get them hemmed, you’ll have new pants!

Ooh, you’re good. I know HOW to hem, like the sewing part. It’s the figuring out where to cut them when I’m by myself. Like, the act of bending over to reach the bottom of the pants pulls them out of whack…then trying to fold linen? So it stays up? To mark where to cut them? Yeah, I can’t. How do you manage that?
Marsha B
I cheat most of the time. I lay a pair that is the length I want on top of the ones I want to hem. Fold them up and pin. Some day, like when I’m a grown up, I’ll splurge and buy some tailors chalk or whatever it’s called. I know you can’t put them on and eyeball it or pin when you bend over. Unless you’re going for a wonky “I did this on purpose “ kinda hem!

I love the mustard colored pants. They look so nice and so comfortable!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks, you too! How’s house-hunting going?

I almost bought a pair of white linen pants today at the consignment shop. And I talked myself out of them. I’m going to be sorry, I just know it. And it’s not close by so I can’t just go back. Now if they were mustard color I wouldn’t have hestitated. I just love those pants.
XOXO

Oh my gosh I can’t imagine you talking yourself OUT of buying something! Ha ha 🙂

Those linen pants are everything. Mustard is one of my favorite neutrals — it just makes everything look better.

I think it is THE color of the 2010-20s.

I’m digging the simplicity of the black column with chambray shirt and sneakers.

Measure the inseam and lenght of the mustard pants. Use a pencil to mark that length on the khaki. Trim, hem, wear.

Mm, that works when you have apples and apples. But these pants are oranges. My slimmer/straight-legged jeans can all be shortened that way…but a wider pant I like a longer length and I don’t have anything to use as the fit template.
Once, long ago, I bought a REALLY nice suit for interviewing…it was like the most money I’d ever spent on clothing…the pants were wide-legged trousers and I had them altered at the store where I bought them. She made them TOO SHORT. I HAD to wear them cuz…I’d spent all my money on this one suit, it couldn’t be returned now due to the alterations…so I was just stuck with wearing awkward-length pants. I feel like the wider the leg the more…intentional you need to be with the length. A slimmer or even skinny fit pant can go shorter or longer and still be okay.
The end of the story…I never got any job I interviewed for in that suit. I finally broke down and bought a cheap suit from somewhere just to get me out of those awkward pants…and got the first job I interviewed for in it. And I’m still there to this day, ha ha.
But that experience has made me head shy about length altering. It’s like hair cuts. One inch too much or too little can be devastating.
