Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ August 8, 2022
Annnd we’re back. How does Monday come around again SO FAST??
Apparently it is death-defyingly hot outside today. I wouldn’t know. I am only going from air conditioned bubble to air conditioned bubble. That’s what July and August are for me.
So, swingy-away-from-the-body sleeveless dress with linen button-down worn unbuttoned. And wouldn’t sandals be nice?? Sigh. Just another perk of retirement (as though there weren’t enough already).
SOMEDAY.
I had a peaceful weekend. I only left the building once, Saturday morning for an egg sandwich, and after that I stayed in the dim coolness of my cave apartment. I did the usual: studying, homework, reading, a little straightening up, napping, watching k-dramas. Nice and quiet and cool.
I hope whoever invented air conditioning was suitably honored. I thank them daily and never take that invention for granted.

You can’t wear sandals to work?

I cannot. Must have closed toes and heels. I was looking for something like a fisherman sandal but not in leather, maybe canvas, but couldn’t find anything like that.

History of air conditioning? I know! Willis Carrier invented the air conditioner in 1902 when working for the Buffalo Forge Company in attempting to solve a humidity problem for a publishing company in Brooklyn. They established the first industrial centralized A/C in 1906 in a cotton mill in North Carolina. The first A/C for a residence was installed at a mansion in Minneapolis in 1914. In 1915, Carrier and six fellow engineers founded Carrier Engineering Corporation as an independent firm. My husband’s great-grandfather was one of those seven engineers who co-founded Carrier! 🙂

Oh wow, that’s so cool! I shall lift you up on a pedestal forevermore, being related to royalty as you are.
Fun Fact: A lot of city (NY) apartments are referred to (unofficially) as “Carrier apartments,” because I guess Carrier got the contract to install ac units in all the apartments in a particular building, so when you’re passing by you just see the Carrier name on all the acs…so they call it a Carrier building (or apartment).
