You’re Allowed to Change
I see magazine and website articles with titles like “What is Your Style” and “How to Dress for Your Style.” I remember reading some “outrage” on the internet this past year about a fashion blogger (I don’t recall names or where I read this) whose style changed over the course of time. Oh the horror.
Guess what? You don’t have to adhere to one style all your life! You don’t have to choose one way of dressing and stick with it forevermore. On Monday you can be Boho Betty and on Tuesday, Preppy Peggy. You’re Allowed!
This may seem perfectly obvious to some people, but…have you ever seen an Oprah Winfrey makeover show?? You can change from year-to-year or from day-to-day or based on life circumstance, job, partner or address. You can change on a whim. You can change because you saw something different in a store and it appealed to you. The point is: You Can Change.
I’m not really a boho “type.” I’m not wild and free or an easy spirit. But boy do I love the clothes! Once in a while. Once in awhile I like to feel like I’m breaking out of my normal life, my normal routine. Once in awhile I like to feel like I’m someone else altogether. Nothing wrong with that. They’re Just Clothes.
If clothes can help you feel a little better, a little lighter or freer when you need that, well, Thank You, Clothes!
I wore this gorgeous red plus size Johnny Was tunic this past weekend on a visit to a Japanese Stroll Garden. It’s The Me I wanted to be that day.
What do you wear when you want to feel like someone else for a day?
What I’m Wearing
- Johnny Was rayon tunic, size 3x. Exact style sold out, comparable here and here in plus size and here and here in straight size. I rented this top from Gwynnie Bee.
- Charlotte Russe Refuge Hi Rise Skinny jeans, size 22
- Me Too taupe bootie. Exact style sold out, comparable here in taupe, cognac and black.

This is exactly my philosophy, Bettye!! I always say that our personality isn’t one dimensional, so why should our clothing choices be only one “style”??
It doesn’t have to be as different as dressing for Halloween, but we can change our looks so easily with clothes!!!

“we can change our looks so easily with clothes!!!” Thank goodness! If I still had to dress in the matronly way I was dressing in my mid-20s, oofah!
Nancy
I totally agree! Never understood the question: what s your style? It depends on my mood! That s why I ,,need,, so much clothes!😂😂😂😂😂
Lovely blouse you are wearing, beautiful color!

Ha ha, I love that this is your reasoning for So! Many! Clothes!

Hi from the UK! The top made me think of the cover of The Beatles Sargent Peppers album cover. Gorgeous!
bettyewp
Ha ha, I can see that! Not a bad thing to be associated with!

One of my favorite outfits ever on you!! Love it! And you know what else people are allowed to change? Their minds about things. It’s ok to grow and evolve in your ideas and thoughts. Yay for being open minded. ❤️
bettyewp
Yes! A changing mind is a growing mind! I never agree with the belief that “people don’t change.” I think we change All the Time!

Wow you look great in red Bettye. I agree, you can change every day if you want. I use this 🙂
XOXO Tina

Thanks, Tina! I go through red phases…I’m not in one right now, so this rented top was a fun thing to wear!

I’d never thought about it actually. Hmmmmm. Totally agree you can change when you want. I guess I’ve always just thought about nudging myself rather than a complete change. Hmmmmmm. Also, your whole blog post is showing up in the emails now which is probably effecting your numbers. I just changed mine so if you don’t remember how to do it, let me know. Have a productive Wednesday!
bettyewp
Ooh, thanks for letting me know – my numbers have been like half of what they had been 🙁 Have not been as productive this week as last, have been focusing on some “self care” as some outside issues have been really weighing on me. Haven’t gotten too far learning the back-end of WordPress.org so may take you up on your offer of help with my emails, thanks!

When I think of having a certain ‘style’, I think of wearing uniforms with limited variation. On the job–yes, but my personal style is all over the table with the exception of suits–I wore enough of those when I worked ‘dress code’ jobs. The possibilities in my style book are endless!

“The possibilities in my style book are endless!” Thumbs up to you!

This is so true Bettye! I love change and try to do something fun at least once a year. Often it seems to be the spring when I start wanting a total redo! Love your blog and you style!
Peace!

I absolutely agree Bettye! We can change our style as easily as changing our clothes! It all depends on our mood and occasion. Thank goodness we are free to choose what we wear and change as we please. Red and blue are a great pair, this top dresses up jeans beautifully, lovely casual outfit! ❤️ 💙

I TOTALLY agree with this, 100%! Fashion should be FUN and should be an expression of how you’re feeling day-to-day; there’s nothing that says you have to stick to one style for the rest of your life. Try new things, mix it up, and wear what you WANT!
