How to Wear a Shirt Dress Two Ways: Simply Be Plus Size Dress Review
I was very pleased recently to be approached by Simply Be about doing a dress review. I was allowed to choose from a generous catalog of items and I decided to go with something just a little outside my usual “clothing box,” that I would be able to style a couple different ways.
I chose this wine colored floral and subtle plaid shirt dress, knowing it would be a little more body conscious than I usually wear – but what better time to try something different!
First I styled it as a dress, and yes, I “school-marmed” it down in my usual way, by layering it under a long cardigan.
The dress has buttons all down the front (as shirt dresses do!) and a little self sash tie. It’s 100% rayon fabric, which, while not a stretch fabric per se, does have quite a bit of side-to-side give, which was nice for sitting and riding in the car.
I have to share an amazing feature on this dress – two hidden buttons right at the bust that keeps the dress from gaping! I’ve heard of this mythical creation but have never experienced it in person and it is truly The Greatest Invention Ever.
Overall, a nice dress, multi-seasonal and comfy.
But wait! There’s more!
It’s not only a dress, it can also be styled open as a duster over jeans or leggings.
Simply Be is a UK site that sells women’s straight and plus size clothing and accessories from size 6 to 28 (and some items, like sleepwear and lingerie up to size 34), which is wayย more size inclusive than most! They have a TON of items, and especially great dresses for the holiday season ahead. When I put my dress size (24) into their search, it comes back with over 200 results!ย Very few sites have that large a plus size selection!
What I Wore:
- Long Sleeve Check Shirt Dressย by Capsule from Simply Be, size 22
- Old Navy Plush-Knit Long-Line Open-Front Plus-Size Sweater in mushroom, size 2x

I wish I could say I thought of that all on my own, but…it *is* a great idea!

I remember seeing a shirt dress styled like a duster and thinking that was brilliant….it’s actually my favorite way to wear them now!!
And isn’t it the best to find one that doesn’t gape?? It’s about time, I always say!!

Loving your shirtdress. And particularly loving the photo of you throwing leaves in the air. It reminds me of the lavender fields dress, may she rest in peace.
This dress looks amazing on you, and I hope you will keep it. Love it as both the dress and the duster.

I’m actually thinking of paying it forward and “give-away-ing” this dress off. Just not sure how to do that yet!

Love it as a duster. The pattern of the dress shows up great next to the black. I’d keep it if I were you. ๐
