What I Bought in May
I really deliberated about whether or not I should do this month’s “What I Bought” post. It was originally scheduled for Friday, June 5, and I canceled it because…it just seemed too trivial for the moment. And that gave me some time to think more about it, which I’m glad of, because I came to the decision that in June, I won’t buy any new clothing. Instead, I’ll take the money I save by not buying clothes and donate it instead to groups supporting black people and causes.
What I Bought in May
STUFF
Dramm 12345 Classic Rain Watering Wand
Because I’m irresponsible and left my wonderful watering wand outside all winter and now it shoots me with water. I loved it because it had a one-handed on-off lever. Sigh.
4 Pieces Curved Eyebrow Tweezer Stainless Steel Scissors Handle Tweezer Clip Facial Hair Plucker Eyebrow Remover Brow Shape Grooming Tools
Wow, that’s a mouthful. I lost my favorite tweezers…and never knew that scissor-handled tweezers were such a hot commodity! I tried all the local sources that are open in real life: local pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens, grocery store, but nada.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater
Katie (who shares my Amazon Prime account) had this in the cart, out of the cart, in the cart, out of the cart…so I just went ahead and bought it and had it delivered to her.
EuTengHao 19Pcs Pottery Tools Clay Sculpting Carving Tool Set Contains Most Essential Wooden Clay Tools for Potters
Ha ha ha ha ha! I was feeling pretty virtuous til I got back to the beginning of the month when I guess quarantine was starting to get to me! This purchase will become clear in just a moment…
Crayola Products – Crayola – Air-Dry Clay, 5 lbs., White
Annnnd there it is! I hold @WhatKateFinds personally responsible for these two purchases (and the next one). Watching her and her kids making “pinch pots” (which I had never even heard of before) from this air dry clay and then painting them…well, then I just had to do it, too. And have I? I’ll give you 3 guesses.
Royal Langnickel Sable Brush Set Value Pack, 7-Pack
Yep. She influenced the crap out of me this month.
The Joy of Watercolor: 40 Happy Lessons for Painting the World Around You
Oh, have you been watercoloring, you ask? Uhm, no. I have not been watercoloring. But now I have a book to not watercolor WITH. Thanks to @karlareed
Good Cook Set Of 3 Non-Stick Cookie Sheets
I have not had a cookie sheet in years. Which is not so bad, because I haven’t made cookies in years. Probably because I didn’t have a cookie sheet. Then, QUARANTINE BAKING. I HAD to make cookies. So I used my lovely pizza stone. And it is no longer lovely 🙁 So I got cookie sheets. Got a 3-pack so I’d have ALL the sizes. Only to find that the largest one does not allow my oven door to close. So.
LENOVO – C640-13IML 2-IN-1 13.3″ TOUCH-SCREEN LAPTOP – INTEL CORE I3 – 8GB MEMORY – 128GB SSD – IRON GRAY
Quarantine Baking and Quarantine Laptopping. Now that the weather is turning nice and it looks like Work From Home is here to stay for a while longer, I thought it would be nice to get out of the cave and work on the patio part of the day. I got a 2-in-1 so it also acts as a drawing tablet. In my mind’s eye the blog is going to be all doodled up in the future! So far I’m very happy with it – not like the $&$^#! used one I bought back in February!
LENOVO ACTIVE PEN
The pen for the drawing tablet. Haven’t used it yet. I need a little time to get that part set up.
CLOTHES
Kate & Alex Cuffaro DOUBLE CROSSBODY BAG
FOSSIL KARLI LEATHER CROSSBODY BAG
These are the two bags I got in the DSW Buy One Bag Get One Free sale a couple weeks back. I NEVER see a sale like that! I’ve been looking for both a black crossbody and a taupe crossbody for ages. These are simple and neutral and utilitarian and the price was so right with the sale.
Old Navy Stripe Plus Size No Peek Striped Stretch Something Something Shirt
I’ve shown this on the blog a couple times already. I’m really enjoying it. It’s sold out 🙁
Madewell Oversize Ex-Boyfriend Shirt
Ooh ahh I love this shirt. It’s a really soft woven cotton. I am ALL ABOUT the button-downs this year!
ABLE MAMUYE CLASSIC TOTE
I bought this back in April, when it was 50% off, but it didn’t arrive til May. I LOVE IT. I haven’t had much opportunity to use it yet with Work From Home, but…I will once Going to the Office is a thing again. The laptop fits in it, my camera fits in it, all the things fit in it. Over the past year I’ve bought and returned three other cognac totes cuz they just weren’t right. I’m glad I held out cuz this one is just right.
RETURNS
WOMEN’S VINTAGE CHAMPION D’ORSAY CANVAS
I was SO EXCITED about these shoes! I’ve been obsessed with the Freda Salvador D’Orsay sneakers ever since I saw them on @karlareed but…my life is not about $300 sneakers. So when I saw these Keds I was like YAYYYY. But. They’re just not as wonderful in real life as in theory (I went into detail on yesterday’s “what I wore this week” post), so…they’re going back.
Old Navy Yellow Ditzy Floral Tie Front Top
You’ll just have to imagine this one cuz it’s no longer in stock and there’s not even a picture of it…and I didn’t take a picture, so. Anyway, I thought it was going to be So Cute over that blue batik print Old Navy dress. It wasn’t. The fit wasn’t good. The color was a little off. It went back.
So. That was May. I feel good about my clothing purchases – all three bags are things I’ve been looking and waiting a long time for, and the button-downs are getting a lot of love.
Now I have a LOT of painting and pottery-making to do! And chin whiskers to pluck 🙂

Been down this path, as soon as I saw the clay craft tools I wondered if they were going to get used but you seem to accomplish much more more than I do. There’s still time. I have table surfacing “stuff” more than one year and just got some jewellery fixing supplies, who knows how long before I actually do the fixing and these are tasks to beautify my actual life. Speaking of which, the state of chin hair is directly proportional to confidence. So money well spent.

After my watercoloring disaster yesterday, I think the clay will be next. I’ve seen some interesting shapes and paint schemes on Instagram…that I can fail at 🙂
I am really only creative in my mind. And with machines. Like the camera and computer.
Ha ha, jewelry fixing/making. I had that year, too. I did actually make some things I still wear. But the most fun part always is buying the supplies! I have TONS of beads…very few bracelets. At the moment I don’t even know where any of that is. Probably with my good watercolor brushes.

Love all of the bags, when I saw the painting book it reminds my of what I am watching most week day evenings, and that is the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross it is so relaxing I don’t know if you Know of him, programmes are quite old( 80s I would say) but very good.
bettyewp
Oh, Bob. Ye of happy little trees and magic white. I loved watching his show on PBS back in the day. He’s had a resurgence of popularity recently, around here, anyway. There’s a “Bob Ross” painting studio down by work. he did have a very relaxing voice. If the painting thing ever went south, he would have been a good yoga instructor with that voice.

You make me laugh…. calling yourself irresponsible after leaving your watering wand outside, lol. I’m more concerned about your new button downs with the new hobbies 😉 Just kidding! You probably have several art shirts. I know I have a separate wardrobe due to my dogs, not glamorous but functional, lol.

Well, Landlord Jim DID remind me last year to bring my hose in before it froze over the winter (YES, DAD). And I, of course, did not. It always seemed wet! I didn’t want to drag that through the apartment to the bathroom…and THEN where was it going to go?? This year I’ll be more prepared. Cuz I see how hard it is to find a NICE one.
I used to have TONS of “painting” and “dog walking” clothes. Not so much anymore. I think I was still wearing my nightgown yesterday when I was painting.

😀 Can relate 100%
