I like to periodically update my lists of favorite content creators, be they bloggers, vloggers, or Instagrammers. Recently I did something to the back-end of my website and lost all the thingies that were on my right-hand sidebar, like subscribe button, Instagram feed, and favorite bloggers. Boo. I gotta get that sorted out, but in the meantime, someone recently asked me who my favorite Black bloggers were, and that prompted me to update all my favorite lists and I figured I would share in case you were looking for some new accounts to follow.

These days I sort of take the term “blogger” to cover all the bases – blog, YouTube, Instagram, and oh dear, TIKTOK. Yes, I’ve recently been spending wayyyy too much time over there. The thing is, it’s not just lip-synching and dance copying…there are tons of tips and tricks and hacks for iPhone, photography, DIY, cooking, etc. AND there’s funny lip synching and dancing 🙂

There are very few actual “bloggers” I follow regularly anymore. It’s so time-consuming to read long-form content! Believe me, I appreciate each and every one of you who comes here to read this blog on a regular basis cuz I know how hard it can be to get around to all your favorites! But there’s about ten I try to get to at least once a week, and I’ll read their most recent post or two (and I’m listing all these alphabetically):

BLOGS

  • Fashion Fairy Dust: Most of us know Debbie from Fashion Fairy Dust…and her confident opinions and stances on things (I mean that in the BEST possible way), not to mention her stunning boho style.
  • Fearlessly Just Me: Marcy is a strong voice for the over-size-24 plus-size community. She’s also a personal friend…and I wish she posted more often!
  • House of Dorough: Ashley Dorough is a) a plus-size/intuitive eating/body acceptance advocate/ambassador, b) learning about black allyship and sharing what she learns, c) plus-size style blogger, c) a mommy blogger if that’s your thing, ha ha. It’s not mine, but I like everything else!
  • Jodie’s Touch of Style: We probably all know Jodie, cuz she is everywhere!!! I swear she does not sleep, because she is the first commenter on every blog I read, she posts daily, she’s involved in umpteen collaborations. I don’t know how she does it. She should really be blogging about Time Management cuz clearly she has that all figured out!
  • Living Outside the Stacks: Daenel is a relatively new follow; her blog always feels so serene to me. Her photography is lovely, her outfits are always creative. She’s a co-host of Life Imitating Art, which is such a cool concept and every time I see one of those posts I think I’m gonna do that! and then life.
  • Maddy Guttierez: Maddy is like The Plus Size Blogger’s Blogger. I feel like everyone can identify with her, she’s very down-to-earth, has lovely casual style, does All The Things: fashion, cooking, skin care, Trader Joe’s hauls, home dec, but it all feels very attainable, not like “instagrammy,” know what I mean?
  • Omaye: A Fashion Community: Another new follow, and I’m really glad to have found her (well, I think she found ME, and then I went to see what she was about) because her posts are very intelligent and thought-provoking.
  • Shelbee On the Edge: Shelbee writes on anything and everything from a philosophical standpoint, which is refreshing.
  • Shot From the Street: I just adore Lizzie: her style, her home, her taste in books, her photography, her vlogs, her visits with her mother, and the neighbor’s cat that makes herself at home in Lizzie’s garden and on her dining room table.
  • When the Girls Rule: I think a lot of you probably know Julia, she’s here a lot and I know some people were introduced to me from her blog 🙂 She writes about making the best of an apple-shaped body…living in the wilds of Michigan with many animals, we share an interest in art and street art, she has a sassy attitude you can’t help but like!

YOUTUBE

  • And I Get Dressed: Kelly Brown, she also blogs but not that frequently. She has a big personality and strong plus-size style. I watch her and feel like I CAN WEAR ANYTHING.
  • Ashley Brooke: Mainly style, straight size, not really my jam. I prefer her vlogs that are just her and her fiance and their dog, living their lives. They’re a sweet couple.
  • Best Dressed: she’s young and sort of…well, YOUNG, but she’s also adorable and creative and artistically talented.
  • JNay Daily: A new follow during this time of quarantining when I was looking for someone new who posted a lot! Working my way through all her content – it’s a mix of  home dec, style, cooking
  • Karen Brit Chick: HER LIFE. So visually stunning. Her clothing, her style, her apartment. Plus she does a NY street style series that’s fun to watch.
  • Maru: come on.
  • Shot From the Street: Lizzie Hadfield is the one that I like ALL of her content: blogs, vlogs, and IG. I’ve been following her longer than anyone.
  • Tina Sosna: when the world gets ugly and I just need a respite.
  • What Kate Finds: She’s about shopping ethically and shopping “less,” in a realistic way, not in a “oh my god I could never” way. She really hasn’t maintained her usual YT content since March, I’m hoping she gets back to it eventually, in the meantime, she’s pretty active on IG and IG stories.

INSTAGRAM

There’s no way to keep IG to 10 favorites. I follow 1000 accounts. But I scrolled through and tried to pick my top current/longtime favorites slash ones that resonate with me the most in terms of personality, style, “making the world a better place,” photography, and/or inspiration. I’m not going to put all their links in, sorry 🙁 But if you do a search on IG (or Google) their accounts will come up.

    • Megillicutti: she hoards owns the most beautiful antiques and vintage items
    • Miss James/bleubird: I’ve been following James on one platform or another since back in the day when we were both selling vintage clothing on eBay. She is just an effortlessly hip, aware, artistic human. I feel like I’ve watched her little family grow up!
    • Moemotivate: anti-racism educator
    • Musings of A Curvy Lady: plus size fashion/style, beautiful photography
    • Natalie Borton: minimal style inspiration, body positivity supporter and jewelry designer
    • NPR: news turned into stories so it’s relatable. It’s like the gateway from No News to Being Informed.
    • Ohhhhhhh Honey: Sydney is a body positivity, fat acceptance. ethically responsible clothing advocate, supporter, etc.
    • Pamela Hiltunen: Another content creator that I’ve “known” since my eBay days…now she’s an artist and makes really imaginative whimsical art, often revolved around Disney themes. Plus she and her husband Bill go to a lot of places so there’s beautiful “travel” photography, even if it’s just close to home.
    • Rosey Beeme: Rosey is a delight, a hoot, a role model for fat acceptance and just BEING YOU and not giving a hoot what anyone else thinks.

    • Sheekzine: plus-size style inspiration

    • Wanderer Nicole: Darling girl, plus size style, fat acceptance
    • What Kate Finds: If Kate buys it or does it, I want to buy it and do it, too. See YouTube description above.

The thing about all these is that while there are my longterm favorites, many flow in and out of my life and time, based on my current needs or what’s going on in the world. Sometimes I’ll follow an IG account based on one picture or comment or event…but if in a week or two I haven’t seen anything else from them that vibed with me, I’ll unfollow. I try to really keep my feed to things I actually like and am inspired or educated by.

Phew. That was a lot! Hope some of you are still with me…maybe you’ll find some new faves here…and why don’t you share some of YOUR faves?

xoxo
