I have written about Shoptagr before, briefly, but so many people ask about it that I wanted to do a more in-depth post.

Shoptagr is a “shopping assistant.” It’s an extension you save to your computer and a little thingy sits politely on your toolbar til you need it.  One-click tells it to save an item to your feed, so everything you’re interested in is saved in one place until a) you’re ready to buy them, b) they go on sale, c) they come back in stock.

Yes, many online stores have “wishlists,” and I usually use those, too, just cuz. But one day I might go, “ooh, I’m ready to pull the trigger on that lilac v-neck sweater I saw a few weeks ago…now where did I see that??” Chaotic internet search ensues.

Nordstrom? No. Nordstrom Rack? No. J. Crew? No. Target? No. Crap. Where was that? Macys? No. Madewell? No. DAMMIT!!! “Google, find me the lilac v-neck sweater!” and Google shows me 957 OTHER lilac v-neck sweaters but not THAT ONE. Aggravating + waste-of-time = BLEH.

So, when I see something I’m even remotely interested in, I save it to Shoptagr. One-click and it’s saved for me. I can either just straight-up save it or I can tell Shoptagr to notify me when the item goes on sale. This is very useful for pricier items. I don’t WANT to spend $3,478 for a pair of designer socks. BUT if they were marked down to $2, I might just have to have them. And Shoptagr can tell me if/when that happens so I don’t have to keep checking back (A+WoT=B).

I also get emails saying an item I’ve saved is low in stock, so I need to make up my mind if I want it or not before it’s all sold out.

OR I might come across The Clothing Item of My Dreams, but…it’s sold out. I can tell Shoptagr to let me know if it comes back in stock. I’ve gotten a couple things that way. Items I thought were lost to me forever…a day/week/month later I get an email saying THE SPARKLE UNICORN IS BACK IN STOCK with a link to the item and off I go to collect my magical purchase. Wheee.

What I use it for most is as a holding place for All the Things I Want…so I can compare them (at one point I had like six different oatmeal cashmere hoodies saved)…or give myself Time to Think It Over before purchasing. And that’s something I try to always do before purchasing. I think about an item. I actually walk into my closet with the item in mind and go item by item, “will it go with this,” “will it work with that?” Sometimes things seem NEEDED…but when you actually go through your closet you may find it’s only going to go with two things…and then with that information, you can decide if it’s worth the cost/closet space/maintenance time and effort.

I save some things in there even after they’ve been long out of stock, as a reminder for same time next year, “oh that’s right, a pair of mustard yellow sneakers would be very useful in my fall wardrobe” and I can renew the search.

Did I mention it’s free? It’s free. And this is not a sponsored post but it should be, ha ha. I’ve been using the app consistently for years and am always recommending it.

To summarize, Shoptagr

  • saves me money by letting me know when things go on sale
  • keeps me from rushing into purchases as I have a reliable way to store them and be alerted if they’re about to sell out
  • helps me comparison shop as I have all the similar items I want in one spot
  • saves me time by storing everything in one place so I don’t have to hunt around THE ENTIRE INTERNET searching for that thing I saw two weeks ago

It may do other things, too, but I only use the aspects above.

I made a little video showing how I use it…I apologize for the sound going in and out, I’m not really sure why that happened. It’s my first time doing a screen record.

Hope this helps!
