Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ Sep 11-17
SATURDAY
This is not what I’m actually wearing today. But I was trying on this shirt I got from Amazon Prime Wardrobe and figured I’d share the picture of that vs what I actually wore. I DID wear the jeans and Okey Dokey Yo shirt. Can you guess what I wore over the tee?? I’m sure you can.
Anyway, the shirt has some pros and cons (shocker). First, I like the color. Sort of a mustardy pumpkin, but it wasn’t solid, it was actually a very thin herringbone stripe with white, which brought down the color saturation, and we all know how happy that makes me 🙂 The fit was pretty good. The shoulders were good. It buttoned but was just a TAD snug, probably more in feel than appearance (but I don’t like the feel of snug), but I would probably wear it more often unbuttoned over a tee-shirt so the fit wasn’t a deal-breaker. The sleeves were a little long (as usual) but not too wide, so they rolled up neatly and stayed up. The fabric was nice – felt more like brushed cotton than flannel and like in a couple washings it would be really soft. The collar seemed weird to me. Like too big or square or something. I think that was my biggest complaint with it. You know how I am about collars. It’s $24.99, not a bad price. I do want more button-downs. But thinking I might get more use/wear out of a plaid shirt than a solid.
I have a couple days to decide.
(ps: I kept the shirt)

SUNDAY
Headed into the city for some evening fun. I’m wearing this new Old Navy wide-striped tee that is a delight to wear. It’s that super-thin, stretchy, drapey fabric I like so much and is in a boxy shape with “long short” sleeves. It’s cropped, but cuz I’m so short it actually hits at an okay spot.
It also comes in some nice solid colors and a pretty pale beige and white stripe that I really liked but the sizing was different and the 3x in that one was just TOO big. Plus, I already have that beige and white stripe tee (albeit long-sleeved) from Target that I enjoy wearing.
It’s been so fun to be able to shop at Old Navy in person!
Navy and white is a classic combo but I really wish I had those golden yellow/mustard yellow sneakers I’ve been obsessing about for two years. I think that color would have been just the perfect little punch here.
Like for years I’ve always felt…”not quite done” unless an outfit had three pieces, I think I’m getting that way now with color, too. I like (at least) a third color. Hmm. The chambray shirt helped cuz at least it’s a different shade of blue than the navy.
But those mustard yellow sneakers, man…..

MONDAY
It’s this dress’ annual outing. It hangs in the closet all year-long and EVENTUALLY I FORCE myself to put it on cuz…well, just cuz. I pass over it all summer…and around this time every year I’m like JUST LET IT GO, but first I want to wear it One Last Time to see if maybe my dislike of wearing it is just in my mind? Maybe I’m FORGETTING what an absolute JOY it is to wear? Maybe?
And I SHOULD like it. It ticks so many boxes for me. The color. The drapey Tencel fabric. The band collar. The loose, swingy fit. All the things I like. And yet. I don’t want to WEAR it. I just don’t. I LIKE it, I just don’t want to WEAR it.
There’s a little life lesson in there about something or someone meeting all the “criteria” that you think you want…but it/them still not…floating your boat. Cuz things/people are more than a list of qualities or traits. There’s a sometimes indefinable THING…vibe, personality…that trumps all those criteria.
Can you tell I’ve been spending time on the personal ad sites again? Ha. I keep thinking that might make an entertaining blog post (cuz MAN there are some characters out there!). Anyone interested in reading that?
Anyway, back to the criteria-rich, wearing-appeal poor dress. Yeah, it’s fine. It’s FINE. But I think this will be the last wearing (I’m sure I said this last year. And possibly the year before that.) of it. Better to release it into the wild and let it find a home with someone who will truly appreciate and get use out of it.
The cream duster-length cardigan helps cover it up a bit, ha ha.
My sneakers have water stains on the sides from my squishy car floor 🙁

TUESDAY
Am I the only one that goes into the closet in the evening, thinking you’ll pick out the next day’s outfit THEN so you won’t be scrambling the next morning…but you stand there and stand there and nothing looks right, so you walk out saying, “I’ll pick out something in the morning,” as though there are going to be different/better options in the morning??
It’s like opening the refrigerator 27 times a day thinking some amazing delicacy will have appeared since you last looked in there five minutes ago.
All that to say…no rhyme or reason to this dress today. It’s one-piece, so easy. I woke up late BECAUSE I kept being woken up all last night with TERRIFYING leg cramps…I’ve never had them through my entire leg like that…from upper inner thigh, so side/back of calf, to foot. I had to keep getting up out of bed, but I couldn’t stand on my own, I had to hold onto the windowsill while I punched my inner thigh (#goodtimes)…and googled “how to stop thigh cramps” and “what causes thigh cramps” and getting anxious when one of the causes is kidney failure, so then I had to go THERE. Hobbled to the kitchen for water, thinking a glass of water is going to reverse kidney failure. I don’t even really know what kidney failure MEANS. I mean, what stops working??
ANYWAY. I didn’t get much sleep, so when the alarm started going off I was just like NO. Had to do the “running late so wash the bangs in the kitchen sink cuz that’s all there’s time for” routine. And grab an easy dress that I haven’t already worn in the past two weeks.
The End.
Dress: Old Navy, 3x. 2019

WEDNESDAY
Well, THIS didn’t go as well as planned! I got the tan/white striped linen J Jill button-down (sister to the white linen button-down that I wear like every third day) and have been seeing it in mind’s eye over the white jeans and these low-saturation grey/tan/taupe snake-print sneakers.
HOWEVER. Ha. When I looked at it in the morning (while running too late to have time to change) I saw Ice Cream Man. Ha. You know how I usually have that “when I wear white jeans with white sneakers I feel like a nurse” thing (and I’m talking old school nurses, like Dr. Kildare era).
The subtle color palette on the sneakers here are enough to elevate me up out of nurse-dom, but not by much. And the striped shirt brings me to old School Ice Cream Man. Ha.
Does anyone else see it? Picture a white cap on my head and Turkey in the Straw playing in the background. NOWWWW you see it.
If it was cooler (which it is so not, it’s muggy again today, ugh, my least favorite weather condition), I would wear a new blue-toned green cardigan over the striped shirt, a combination I’m looking forward to wearing. When I stop sweating.
But I think the problem here is still the shoes. Well, the light color of the shoes with the white pants. If the pants were cropped enough to show some skin I think it would work. And my only other option was navy (a possibility but I didn’t have time to start experimenting) or black.
So here I am, dressed uncomfortably at work and craving a snow-cone.
Striped Button-down: J Jill (but purchased from QVC), 4x. 2021
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2020
THURSDAY
My Forcing Myself to Leave the Apartment and Go On An Outing outfit of the day.
And I did. Leave the apartment. And just took a sort of mindless drive. Found a place with a little water and no people and picnic tables and sat and read my book for a bit.
It was JUUUSSSSTTT not too warm to wear a light layer. This linen blend hoodie was just right over the lightweight sleeveless (well, cap sleeve) Anthropologie top.
Jeans. Sneakers. You know the drill.
Print top: Anthropologie, 3x. 2018.
Linen Hoodie: Taharia, 3x. 2018
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2020
FRIDAY
My Back to Work for Just One Day outfit of the day.
It’s not so hot but pretty muggy, and may or may not rain. And I felt lazy and this is easy to put on and easy to wear.
Dress: Junarose, 22. 2017
Cardigan: Old Navy, 2x. 2017
Sneakers: Keds Champions, 2021
Okay, world/weather, I’m ready for you to get JUST a little bit cooler…I want to layer!

I personally like the pumpkin colored dress. Perfect for fall My vote is to keep it. I smile every time I read your stories. And and HUGE I can’t wait for the cooler weather so we can stop sweating and start layering!!

After looking at the collage of all last week’s outfits…including the rust dress I don’t like wearing…I think the issue is that it is just a big expanse of solid color. I’m “big expansey” enough, I don’t need to ADD to that. Other outfits are broken up with prints or some other detail, or a top and pants has a horizontal line across me…but the solid rust is just too Solid Rust. I think that’s the thing. And I can hear someone out there thinking WEAR A BELT but a) not a fan, cinch things more tightly against my body?? No, Thank You! plus, b) I just really don’t think that would make me LIKE it. I mean, like WEARING it.
I LIKE the dress. I just don’t like WEARING it.

I hope you keep that mustard top (did you see the mustard pants I bought inspired by you?). To me the collar doesn’t look any different than the chambray one.

I did keep the goldy top – it’s more pumpkin than mustard…and no, I did not see the mustard pants you bought! Were they the ones you originally passed up at the thrift store? I will have to take a look!

I do like the shirt in the first picture – glad you decided to keep it.
And, oh my goodness, I have several of those “I just don’t like it” tops that I just keep hanging in my closet for some unknown reason. I so need to just purge them. Maybe soon.
