Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ Oct 23-29
SATURDAY
It’s a stay-at-home day. Cablevision is supposed to be coming this morning (spoiler alert: they did not) to hook up something that’s supposed to better, for less money.
I had to really talk myself into keeping this brown(?)ish sweatshirt tunic thing. I like the color, I love the fabric – it’s like drapey sweatshirt. I don’t like the long length. I’m trying to keep away from long tops (it’s a challenge with large sizes and short legs), but in the end I decided it would be mainly a wear-at-home item anyway, so. It’ll be good in the winter as I can easily fit something under it, and the longer length is probably better for winter indoors. We’ll see if it becomes the new Ava&Viv grey asymmetrical hem turtleneck that I’ve been wearing for HOW many years?? Six? Seven?

SUNDAY
I’m working on 2 fitful hours of sleep…and while it’s coolish outside, we’re going to a museum in the city, and museums are notoriously overheated, so…
Linen shirt.
This is the striped sister to The White Linen J Jill Shirt. It needs a couple more washings before it’s as soft and lovely as it’s sister but…it’s getting there.
It was just the right thing for museum wandering and eating lunch outdoors in a street/sidewalk booth.
Jeans. Sneakers. Done.
Button-down: J Jill, 4x. 2021.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021

MONDAY
You wouldn’t think this outfit (for lack of a better term) required much thought, but it sure took a lot of tries before I managed to get myself into something I could walk out of the house in.
I was so tired this morning after my Saturday into Sunday lack of sleep night (can I even speak anymore?) to watch the live online BTS concert and then staying up all day to Do Things in the City (aka Have a Normal Life) that “what should I wear today” just barely registered on my Things to Give a Sh*t About radar.
Which is never good. Cuz then I go into my closet, already running late for work (cuz Getting to Work On Time is apparently also just barely on the TOGASA radar), and stand and stare at all the options. And cuz my summer and fall wardrobes are sort of haphazardly mongled* together right now, there are far too many item options.
I’m not good with too many options. It’s too hard/time-consuming to make a decision. Which is part of why I like keeping a smaller wardrobe. And yet this year I feel like my clothing items have quadrupled (they haven’t but it FEELS that way).
So it’s hard on a humid fall day when I’m tired and a third of my clothes are in the dirty clothes hamper, to settle on What’s Best.
Most of the first choice outfits needed the white jeans and they’ve been crumpled up in the hamper for at least a week-and-a-half, so they were out. The next two thoughts were with shirts that I passed on because I assumed they’d be uncomfortably taut across my belly with my recent weight gain. Then it was this sweater over a white tee…but not THE white tee because that is still hiding somewhere…but it was not a good match at the neckline and the bottom hem. So the tee shirt came off and then I tried this sweater under a plaid shirt…but that was too hot. And then the sweater alone (not my favorite) with the taupey-snakeskin print Converse, but they slip off my heels and I couldn’t find the (DEAR LORD IS SHE STILL TALKING) rubbery insert things to help “tighten up” shoes and then….IT’S SO LATE I JUST GOTTA GO.
And here I am.
It’s fine. It’s F I N E.
Ugh. Can I just go back to bed now??
( ^ is a perfect example of how my brain TORMENTS me)
*MONGLED (mahn’julled): a term coined by a co-worker, meaning to dump ingredients together and mix in a non-careful manner (as in the case of recipes).

TUESDAY
My Happy Outfit. I love the mustard. I love the stripes. I love the red and black plaid. I love the mustard and stripes with the red and black plaid.
Just to nitpick (cuz that’s what I do), the red shirt is a little long. I’ve decided that for me, ideally, shirt bottoms should be about even with the bottom of my fingertips with arms hanging down loosely. Like here, the mustard is spot on…the red shirt could stand to lose a few.
Yesterday’s taupe sweater was just right.
Mustard Tee: Old Navy, 3x. 2019
Red Plaid Button-down: Sanctuary, 3x. 2020
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons
WEDNESDAY
You can see there’s a length issue here. But I specifically got this yellow plaid button-down in a larger size to be worn open over things. I just went rogue today and wore it buttoned up under a cardigan.
I like the goldy yellow of the shirt with the mauve of the cardigan. What I’m not a big fan of (and this is SO coincidental) is that there’s a subtle mauve stripe running through the shirt that matches the cardigan PERFECTLY (she said with disdain). Perfect Match is so not my jam. I prefer coordinated to matched. Look at Tuesday’s color combo. There’s no mustard in the plaid shirt. There’s no red in the mustard shirt. But, while different, they play so nicely together. I think it’s just a more dynamic color combination than this “well-matched” color combo.
But I’m a pita, so.
Yellow Button-down: Target, 4x. 2021
Mauve Cardigan: Old Navy, XXL. 2201
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021

THURSDAY
The best thing about this outfit is the gold sequin cat ears.
It was Halloween at work today and this was all the costume I could muster up.
I know I was gonna be taking pictures outdoors all morning so I just wanted easy.
I so prefer this sweater over a white tee or blue chambray collared button-down but WHERE THE HECK IS MY GOOD WEAR-UNDER-THINGS WHITE TEE SHIRT?!? The olive green and black combo is a little yawn. A teensy contrast peeking out from the collar would be just the detail it needs.
Sweater: Treasure & Bond/Nordstrom, 3x. 2020
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons
FRIDAY
I gave this dress One More Chance. It was an impulse purchase last fall and it just….we’re not really great friends. There’s nothing WRONG with her, we just…don’t like the same things anymore. It’s time to cut her loose. Let her find a new companion who will really appreciate her special gifts: stretchy comfort, dark-toned ditsy floral, pockets.
It’s the final weekend for the farmstand around the corner for me so I stopped for a tomato and flowers to reward myself for surviving this week…and the 3,179 that came before.
GOOD JOB, BETTYE!

I love the cute dress and cardigan. Also, I would never have put the red plaid shirt together with the mustard stripe tee BUT it looks so awesome on you!

Yeah, and that’s one of my favorite autumn combinations in my closet right now! Me. Miss Low Contrast Neutral. Go figure 🙂

I have to disagree with you on length. I think the longer lengths are more becoming. And, the top in the first photo is my favorite!

Yeah, I think it has to do with body proportion. Slender, tall, or long-legged people can wear longer-length tops without making their legs look like those dwarf cats. And a short person can be long-legged, so it’s not just a height thing. My best friend in my teens was the same height as me…but her legs came practically up to my waist! SHE can pull off a longer-length top. I cannot.
But that’s the beauty of fashion…there’s really no right or wrong. We can each have our own sense of what is pleasing, attractive, etc. 🙂

Love the last dress and cardigan.

GOOD JOB BETTYE! You deserve flowers every week. Your writing is so expressive. I say that every time but I love reading it. Easy. Entertaining. I’m along with you in your head as you talk to yourself and figure out the length issues. And the matchy color thing — it looks fine, it just feels a bit dated where the non-matchy colors feel youthful and fresh. My two cents. Gonna catch up with some of your older posts I’ve missed while building a home on wheels!

Thanks! I DO deserve flowers every week!
Yeah, the phrase that sprang to mind when I first looked at the golden yellow/mauve outfit was “traditionally coordinated.” Like 1990s bed-sets. It’s not BAD, there’s just a certain vibe to it.
xoxo Miss you around these parts!
