I haven’t done a fitting room try-on post in a lonnnng time. Mostly cuz I haven’t been shopping in person as much. But recently more and more stores are carrying plus sizes…and LARGER plus sizes. I might have to start venturing into stores again. Ugh. Ha.

Sold out online, size 3x. I ended up getting this top, I showed it in this post

The one I’ve been the MOST excited about is Anthropologie. That’s been like a DREAM store of mine for a long time, from the time that they were just housewares – exotic, handcrafted, bohemian…and then I used to subscribe to their print catalogs when their gorgeous clothing came out – not for me, but to study how they styled their shoots – they were always so lovely and dreamy.

Sold out online, size 24

And now *I* can shop there! Prices start high, I admit…but my ShopTagr lets me know when things go on sale. And when I went into a store a few weeks back, a) they had a LARGE plus size section, beautifully merchandised…and b) a GENEROUS sale rack with GREAT price reductions. And the items are all so special…and I buy so little…and I buy mostly basics…that it’s nice to have a go-to spot for something really different and wonderful. A spark of joy in my closet, if you will.

Sold out online, size 22. I loved this dress – very colorful with a retro 50s housewife vibe. I was digging it. Til I couldn’t get the side zipper up. At all.

I’m a very lazy in-person shopper. It wears me out quickly, I don’t like going in and out and in and out of the fitting room multiple times. I’d been watching other plus size bloggers on Instagram trying things on at Anthro and had gotten the sense that many things were oversized, so I didn’t do a great job of estimating sizes as most of the things I took into the fitting room were too small…and I didn’t feel like going out and getting the next size up. But it did reconfirm my old shopping principle of “start with the largest size they have and work from there,” cuz MOST of the time I’m going to need the largest size.

Anthropologie Halter Tunic Dress, I’m in a size 22. 24 might have been just right.

So these are the items I tried – sorry, the lighting was not great…and there were lots of people and employees in the fitting room area so I was keeping my voice low. I have not mastered the fitting room try-on video!

Anthropologie Hermia Media Dress, size 24. I never would have bought this dress anyway, it was just so lovely I wanted to try it. It’s really outside my box color-wise and it has that high elastic waistband…but it was so swishy and feminine.

I was mostly trying things on just to see how the fit was. I’d bought one dress online previously in my normal size (24) and it was GINORMOUS…and I wanted to see if that was true across the board. It is not.

Anthropologie Pilcro Striped Dress, size 24. This would be a really cute work dress but was way too tight through the hips/tummy for me.

I’ve been on the hunt (read: buy return buy return etc) for an oversized white linen blouse to wear open over summer dresses like a cardigan/jacket or even knotted loosely at the waist. I’d seen this one on Ashley Dorough’s Instagram and it looked cute…but in person there was just a lot going on with the woven pattern and the dark buttons and the creamy color, etc. So I passed.

I was actually pleased to walk out with my one purchase, the first top above…marked down from $74.99 to $24.99. And now I have a better feel for the sizing for future purchases. I have my eye on a top in particular that’s pretty pricey, but it’s very special, and I sorta feel like since I’ve actually purchased so little this summer that I could have this one extra special thing and I’ll love it and pet it and squeeze it and call it George and we’ll live happily ever after.

My apologies, I did video clips of all the items above but I just could not get them to play nice with the post and I finally gave up.

PS – I think all the things I linked to above also come in straight sizes, so take a look!
