Week in Review: Week 182
After a full weekend (the first weekend of vacation, last weekend) of laying on the sofa reading, only going out twice just to get food, I figured I better start being a little productive!
MONDAY
So here’s my To Do list, it’s not too bad, and I did most of the stuff on Monday to get it out of the way.
I did a little more than half the things. Yay me.
I tried on some things at Lane Bryant…I got a mustardy yellow top you can’t see in this photo…and that’s the black with pink polka dots I mentioned last Friday in the fall shopping post, that I thought would be cute under the black plaid blazer.
And I’m considering going back for this floral dress. At the time I was like, well, it’s pretty and all, but where am I wearing this? Then I got home and remembered I might be going to a wedding in October and this could be perfect. So, we’ll see. (goofy face cuz I was actually videoing and talking. I did a screen grab out of the video and they’re always kinda weird)
In the middle of Errand Monday, I grabbed a snack – my new favorite candy since the demise of Necco Wafers (rip). I really prefer the soda flavors: root beer, cola, grape. I don’t care so much for the orange and cherry. Fortunately, someone I work with likes the fruit flavors and not the soda flavors, so…sometimes those make their way to her 🙂
And I sat down by a little marina while I called the eyeglass place to make an appointment. Isn’t that a nice backyard?
Oh, the optometrist seemed much more concerned about my cataracts than the ophthalmologist had been back in February. And it’s all finally coming together about my difficulty driving at night, period, and worse in the rain. At night I see all lights as big starbursts (I thought this was how everyone saw – it never occurred to me before that that was not normal!) – streetlights, traffic lights, oncoming car headlights, etc. The light trails themselves are distracting but seeing lights at night causes everything else to be backlit, ie, dark. Like taking a picture of a person standing in front of a bright window. I think I have to think about cataract surgery. Blrrgh. Has anyone here had it?
I was only picking from the “free with insurance” shelves, so here are my two best options…what do you think?
I am getting the glare-resistant coating on the lenses, the optometrist is confident that will help with my night vision.
I’m too young to be so old!
TUESDAY
The new batch of books. Wanted to be well stocked up for vacation. In the end, however, I really didn’t read as much as usual! I think reading is a form of escapism slash avoidance and when I’m on vacation, what’s to escape and avoid?? I’m still on the top book!
Got my Eloquii delivery…
The golden yellow dress is fun, but…it’s a little too “big expanse of boob” ish for me (I tried putting on a long necklace which helped a little, but…) and, surprisingly, it was a little big. The waist was a little too loose and low and the sleeves were crazy long. It’s a fun dress, it’s swirling and twirling capabilities are off the charts, but the fit is not quite right for me. It’s packed up and ready to go back.
The robe coat, also large. Way too large. In shoulders, sleeves, body. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to order the next size down. But this one is going back.
And I didn’t take a dedicated picture of them, but the boots fit!!! They’re staying. I’m so relieved to have a pair of high boots again!
wednesday
A rainy day. Just stayed home til early evening when I met friends for dinner. Left in time to make it home just before dark.
thursday
Just a quiet day around the apartment, but met my friend at cocktail beach in the evening. We brought our own snacks and sat on the beach. I had a bottle of lemonade and gin to avoid the $12 hardly-alcoholic-at-all beach cocktail. It was a nice evening.
friday
Errand morning and Coney Island evening.
Saturday
All-day recovery from Friday Errand Morning and Coney Island Evening. Never got out of my nightgown, never left the apartment.
SUNDAY
Of course, the second to last day of vacation is when I noticed all the things I’d wanted to do while I was home, that I hadn’t yet gotten done, so there was a flurry of activity around the apartment and on the computer.
I’m watching the weather…Dorian looks like she’s heading to very near where my sister and brother-in-law and their little dog Taffy live in Beaufort, SC. They’ve closed up all the hurricane shutters and I’m sure they’ve done whatever else needs doing…and they’re waiting a bit longer to see if they’ll need to evacuate. They are right on the water, so…all the gators would be washing up on their back lawn. That would not make me too happy. I do not like gators.
Hope everyone else is safe.
I’ve had some good luck with movies over the past week or so. I didn’t watch much tv this summer, and what I did watch was mostly bad…but now I have two I would recommend.
The Bookshop. Dear and sweet and sad.
Take Me Home Tonight. Silly 80’s era movie (from 2011), but it was cute and I do like Topher Grace.
I have no book recommendations cuz I haven’t finished even one since last week’s Week in Review!
And…it’s SEPTEMBER! Summer is winding down. The sun is setting so much earlier already – 7:30pm here right now – and it has definitely cooled off quite a bit. Is anyone doing anything fun for Labor Day? I feel like most parties happen on Sunday not Monday. Do people have parties for Labor Day?
It’s time to wrap this up and find something for dinner. Have a good week, everyone. Thanks for reading.
xoxo Bettye

Ooh – you need that dress! It’s so pretty, and it looks really good on you. (Also, I think it could be dressed down with boots and a cardigan for every day wear, so not impractical at all).
I like the glasses on the left.
I love that last picture of the fireworks – it’s so clear!
bettyewp
The fireworks were fun – they’re the only ones I saw all summer. I actually ended up with the glasses on the right, even though I usually go with the wire-framed type with the little nose rests – like the ones on the left. I just thought a change might be nice.

That flower dress is so pretty! And look how long your hair is getting all of the sudden. I hope you had a nice long vacation and you’re ready for fall — the best season of all!
bettyewp
My hair *is* getting long but it’s at a weird stage where it’s not laying the way it has been, and it’s still too short for a pony or any sort of clipped up/pulled-back hairstyle. But soon the humidity will no longer be such an issue and it will at least be smooth again.
Fall is the best season of all?

The floral dress is lovely – treat yourself. I also liked the yellow one, but yes, the coat was too large (yet a great design). But the boots are FAB!!! Also, loved The Bookshop and (spoiler) felt terrible for him and her when Bill Nye’s character died outside his door. Hooray for that little girl taking care of the karma for Patricia Clarkson’s character. Nice ending.
Here’s to a successful year for both of our schools. Relax when you can, even if it seems unproductive. The type of work we do and the stresses it puts on us requires that we take advantage of down time.
bettyewp
Trust me, there is no shortage of me treating myself!
Yes, The Bookshop definitely a sad turn 🙁
I’m not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. Our big golf outing is 3 weeks away and that’s a LOT of work before, during and after…and a really exhausting day. So I’m enjoying my last day of vacation by lounging and reading…and fortunately it’s a 4-day week which will hopefully go smoothly.

I have to agree on the flower dress. You don’t necessarily need an event or place to wear it right now. Since it fits so wonderfully, you can wear it for anything!!!
And yay for boots that fit! Now that’s a relief. My stepmom is getting cataract surgery in a month. It could make life so much better for you??

PS..I just finished the book: Park Avenue Summer…..great and easy read if you ask me.
bettyewp
Ha ha, you guys all crack me up! You would have me buy EVERYTHING! I’m still deciding on the floral dress and it’s actually half off this weekend! Need to decide soon!
Ooh, let me know how Nancy’s cataract surgery goes!
Will take a look at Park Avenue Summer! I’m reading today as it’s raining 🙂

Love the tan coat, especially with one boot( real fashion statement) perhaps size down.
bettyewp
I thought I would start a new trend 🙂
Sarah
Love love the dress on you. Definitely worth adding to your permanent collection. I’m torn in the glasses – both look great on you, I probably lean towards the ones with the frames.
How high up do the boots go? I’ve worn Merrell boots for the last 10 years, but last year they let me down and I need to branch out. My feet are so awful though. Are the Eloquii boot wide in the toe box?
bettyewp
The boots go just over the knee, though they did drop a bit after walking around the apartment a little. And *I* have a wide toe box and these felt comfortable – although I didn’t do a lot of walking, just around the apartment.
Iris
Bettye, BUY the floral dress! It looks great on you and you’ll find lots of places t wear it.
Cataract surgery is so simple these days. I was totally amazed at what I could see after I had mine. One eye, two weeks later the second one. It was a piece of cake. Haven’t regretted it for a minute. You’ll definitely be surprised at how well you can see.
Grace & Peace,Iris

Ooh, tell me everything! Were you awake for the surgery? If you WANT to be knocked out, can you be? Did it hurt? Was the improved vision immediate?
Debbie from Illinois
Love the floral dress, it looks great! I thought I was the only one who misses Necco wafers! 😃😃😃
bettyewp
Oh gosh, no. I’m a longtime Necco wafer. My sister is, too, so maybe it’s genetic 🙂
