Another week of getting dressed.

SATURDAY

bettye in the living room in green jacket

The one where I matched the walls. Score.

PROS
* Happy for the opportunity to wear a lighter jacket instead of a heavy coat
* Pretty happy with the overall look for a “doing-nothing” weekend day

CONS
* I like and don’t like the army green jacket with the oatmeal knit underneath. I think they’re fine together in concept, but all I see when I look at them together is Desert Storm 90-91. Don’t ask, I can’t really explain it.
* I REALLY need to pull the trigger on another pair of sneakers. I love these, but Every Damn Day is a LOT.
* In application, I like the turtleneck under the crewneck. But the neck on this one is a little wrinkly and I feel like it looks like I have a whiplash neck-brace on

Crewneck: Tahari merino wool handkerchief hem, 3x. Old.
Turtleneck: Lands End supima cotton, 3x
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 20 short
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons
Jacket: Loft green Tencel utility jacket, 3x. Comparable.

SUNDAY

Gave myself a “clothing optional” day today. It’s honestly a lot of pressure to Put On Clothes Every Damn Day. My mother, at least once I knew her, was not one to leave the house unless necessary. And if she wasn’t leaving the house, then getting dressed was also not necessary. Frankly, many days, getting out of bed was not necessary. Anyway. This was my role model growing up. And now I am perfectly at ease not going out, not interacting with people, not getting dressed, not showering for many (probably too many) days in a row. Right or wrong that is my comfort zone.

With the blog, and now TikTok, I put more pressure on myself to not only GET DRESSED every day, but to put some thought and effort into it. And not wear the grey handkerchief hem Target turtleneck over jeans 27 days in a row (because I happily would. And DID, for many years) because it’s easy and comfortable.

I guess getting dressed every day is a good (stupid) habit. I guess. So I’m doing it. Mostly. But on a rainy Sunday when I have no plans…it’s nice to just not have that pressure to look a certain way or have to make the effort.

PROS
* Comfy
* Easy
* Not dirtying anything unnecessarily

CONS
* None

MONDAY

A rainy Monday in the office. This look seems about right.

PROS
* Still loving black on black on black. Is that still a thing in the summer?
* Happy with the collar fit and tail length of this shirt under this sweater. Some of my shirt-tails are longer than I’d like (#proportionfail)
* A year-and-a-half in and I still love this sweater. Wish I’d gotten it in more colors when it was available

CONS
* None? Look at me with the “I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!” affirmation!

Crewneck Sweater: Black Catherine Malandrino cashmere, 3x. Comparable.
Buttondown: Charlotte Russe blue chambray Tencel, 3x. Old. Comparable.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, black wash, 20 short
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons

TUESDAY

betty standing in living room in cobalt blue sweater

Work from home.

PROS
* While I don’t wear this blue top as much as it’s sister the oatmeal one (see Saturday, above), I still like wearing it and am happy that it has lasted so long – 9 years! At the time I bought it I thought it was expensive. It was $34.99 at TJ Maxx, oh how times have changed.
* Happy with the collar-in-collar fit (ratio?)

CONS
* The sweater has a hole in it somewhere
* Yes, I’m wearing the black jeans two days in a row. They’re my favorite ones and go with the most tops – at least in the winter

Crewneck Sweater: Cobalt blue Tahari merino wool knit, 3x, old.
T-shirt: H&M viscose/cotton jersey, 3x. I really should get a couple more of these as I wear this one a LOT. It’s getting a little dingy and droopy after so much wear and hand-washing.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, black wash, 20 short
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons

WEDNESDAY

bettye standing in living room in dark grey sweater and white jeans

Working at work again.

PROS
* I like this charcoaly grey top with white jeans…
* I still like this sweater after like six years
* I like the little peek of polka dot showing in the side slit of the tunic. Though I keep thinking I would really like a lilac tee so that color shows between the charcoal grey and white.

CONS
* The white jeans never look as good as the dark jeans, I think cuz the shadows of the wrinkles show up (grey on white) and they just look sloppier. White pants are so hard #NeverGiveUp

Crewneck Sweater: Rachel Rachel Roy asymmetrical turtleneck, 3x. Old.
Tee-shirt: Polka dot H&M viscose/cotton jersey, 3x.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, Crystal White, 20 short. I’ve been watching&waiting for the off-white ones to become available cuz I think I would wear those a LOT.
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons

THURSDAY

bettye standing in living room in taupe cardigan and striped buttondown

At work in office. Sunny, low 40s.

PROS
* I love getting an opportunity to wear these shoes. They look better with a cropped length pant (vs my jeans) so I don’t wear them much in the cold weather as I try to avoid bare ankles
* I like the taupe/black color combo a lot

CONS
* The fit on both the button-down and the cardigan are longer than I’d like. At the time it was worth the trade off for having something that fit around my body without being tight, but.
* I’m not 100% on the grey stripe shirt with the taupe cardigan

Button-down: Old Navy, 3x
Cardigan: Old Navy, 2x
Jeans: Charlotte Russe Refuge cropped skinny jean, 22 short
Shoes: Me Too taupe loafer

FRIDAY

bettye standing in living room in leopard cardigan

The past two winters I wore this cardigan SO MUCH and this year I just don’t find myself reaching for it as often. Does leopard now seem too “feminine” to me? I don’t know.

PROS
* I’m always happy with the black jeans/black turtleneck column under-layer
* I love wearing this turtleneck and it was supposed to be really cold again today, so…score!
* These black jeans and black sneakers are my favorite “bottom half” this winter (this “pro” applies to like 87.5% of all my outfits this winter)
* I do always get compliments when I wear the leopard cardigan. That’s not that important to me, but it also doesn’t suck

CONS
* As leopard print colors go, this is not my favorite. The brown is sort of yellow-toned, like towards diarrhea color, ha ha. But you know my chocolate brown Old Navy cardigan?: THAT is a delicious brown. This is not quite as pleasing. I want everything to be pleasing. Can’t everything just be pleasing?

Turtleneck: Jessica London cotton/cashmere blend, 22/24
Cardigan: Sanctuary, 2x -> there are actually a couple on Poshmark right now
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, black wash, 20 short
Shoes: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons

ALRIGHT. Another week down. How many are left? 1½ til I see Katie in the city for a day. 3½ til a 4-day weekend. A million til the next week-long break. What are you looking forward to next?
