Me again. Wearing clothes. April is a tough month clothing-wise because of the temps. It’s too cool to wear summer things, and too hot for most winter things. I have about a minute before I get too hot so I never have many clothes for this exact time of year. And I struggle with these few weeks every year. My clothes are better suited to “transitioning” from summer to fall than from winter to spring. Go figure.

Doing the best I can.

SATURDAY

It’s a little chillier than I thought today. And my bangs are way long.

I basically like this as a weekend outfit. The tee shirt is getting so limp for washing/wearing that the collar no longer stands up and peeks over the crewneck collar. How many white tee shirts will I buy before finding The One?

Grey Cashmere Crewneck: Catherine Malandrino, 3x. 2019
White Tee: H&M, 3x. 2017
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, Callisto wash, 20 short, 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2020

SUNDAY

Lazy Sunday. I got dressed late in the day just to go to the bagel store…only to discover that it was Easter and anything that was open, had closed early. Guh.

I essentially like this outfit also, for a casual weekend look. I just don’t like the large neck-hole of the top. I find it hard to find the right thing to under or over it. Plus I just don’t like so much square footage showing on my chest. I. Just. Don’t. Like. It.

Thermal Henley: ___, 3x. 2020
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, black, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2020

MONDAY

Back to work. In-office. I guess I can stop saying that cuz now every day is “in-office.”

It’s in the 60s today, we’re still closed for break, and we had to reposition desks and stuff in our office after Girl #3 leaving. So I didn’t want to wear anything too precious.

The outfit is fine. Nothing special. Which is sometimes just what I want. I think I’ve repeated this exact outfit three times now since the first of the year. That’s kind of a lot for me in such a short time. I think it’s just easy and nothing feels uncomfortable with it. Win.

V-Neck: ___, 3x. The fabric is so weird, if I had to identify it I would say “boucle knit made from recycled plastic bottles.” 2018
White Tee: H&M, 3x. 2017
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, Frisco wash, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slipons. 2020

TUESDAY

Still in love love with this sweater. It’s one that I had on watch for like a year waiting for the price to drop…and it just never did. So finally I bit the bullet and paid full-rpice cuz all the sweaters around it were selling out and I just NEW we would get along famously.

I wasn’t wrong. It’s lovely and oversized (#boyfriend) but doesn’t feel schlubby or schlumpy). I don’t even mind the deeper-v because it’s such a narrow v that it doesn’t show much skin. I was so warm running around getting ready this morning that the thought of putting a tee-shirt underneath was…no.

And navy and white for spring? It’s all good. Other than the white jeans being a little wrinkly (as white jeans always seem to be on me), I give this outfiot a 5/5.

Navy v-neck: J Crew cashmere boyfriend, 3x, 2021
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, white, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021

WEDNESDAY

Wearing my “I Work In an Office” costume today. I nailed it, right? Ha ha.

You know it’s Really Spring when I break out the Old Navy duster cardigans cuz it means it’s mild enough that I don’t have to wear a coat. Cuz I don’t like the look of so much cardigan showing under a shorter coat.

I’m on the hunt for summer-weight hip-length cardigans. I don’t mind these longer ones over dresses and skinny jeans…but over regular straight-leg jeans I’d prefer a shorter cardigan.

Button-down: Old Navy, 3x. Spring 2020
Black Cardigan: Old Navy, 2x. 2017
Jeans: Black Charlotte Russe Refuge skinny jeans, 24 short. 2016
Black flats: Aerosoles Betunia flats. 2020

THURSDAY

Bettye Bare-Legged in a Dress is the new Groundhog Not Seeing His Shadow. Ha. You know, just to make even CLIMATE about me 🙂

The Dress. I first saw this dress at Plus BKLYN in May 2017. I loved it, but also loved the OTHER Junarose dress I tried on. You know the one. And since I was headed to a partial-family reunion in Florida in July, the other dress seemed more appropriate. This one always feels very Back to School-y to me. Anyway, in those days the thought of ONE $75 dress floored me…let alone TWO. So I left this dress there and came home with the other one. Which I have worn 12,953 times. More or less.

But I never forgot this little schoolgirl dress. It had my heart. I needed to find it. And I searched and searched. And searched. And FINALLY in 2019 I found it on Poshmark, new with tags still on, in exactly my size…for $25!!! Score.

And why do I like it so much? It’s an easy fit (loose) without being overly feminine. You know I love a collared shirt. This is a collared shirt DRESS.

It’s still a little chilly in the morning so I layered the H&M tee underneath and put the grey boyfriend cardigan over top. I’d really like some white sneakers but I have so many particularities I have just not found the right ones yet. I could just do a white version of these Converse but…do I want 27 pairs of the same shoes? I also want them in light grey…and I wish I could find the shorelines in lilac, I’d snatch those right up!

But overall, I’m giving this 5/5. I want to dress like a boy. But today, like a boy who wears dresses 🙂

Dress: Junarose, 3X. 2019
White Tee: H&M, 3x. 2018
Grey Cardigan: Dean & White, 2x. 2012
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021

FRIDAY

bettye standing in living room wearing a lilac sweater

Friday. A little grey and damp today so I’m back to jeans and sweater.

This is a new blouse from Torrid. It’s a sort of slinky polyester georgette…not EXACTLY what I’ve had in mind for floral man-tailored shirts but I’m having a hard time finding what I have in my mind’s eye. That’s not, you know, Gucci and $700. I sat on it for several days…and finally opted to keep it as…sigh…a workaround.

BUT when it occured to me to pair it with the lilac v-neck I got very excited. And I like them together in reality as I did in real life.

I think I will also like it with the navy v-neck I wore earlier this week – I do love a good green and blue combo.

Now if only I had a pair of well-fitted black trousers. HA HA HA HA HA. The Holy Grail. If I had THOSE pants, this would be a 5/5. Still, I’ll give it a 4.5/5 which is pretty good for me.

V-neck Pullover: Isaac Mizrahi, 3x. 2021 from ebay, 2021
Collared Blouse: Torrid, 3x. 2021
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short, black, 2020
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2020

It was touch-and-go there for awhile, but I managed to survive my first full week in the office in over a year. And I was even dressed appropriately
