Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ April 24-30
The fits just keep coming!
Ha ha, I crack myself up.
SATURDAY
Heading to my favorite Long Island spot, Peconic River Herb Farm. Taking a friend who has never been there.
Wasn’t exactly sure how warm it was going to get so I light-layered with the thought that I may be taking the chambray top off.
I like the outfit in theory but I’ve had both this chambray top and striped top a long time and they’re both looking a little dingy and floppy. So it only gets a 4.5/5 from me. Which is still pretty good.

SUNDAY
Rainy and cool. Not going anywhere besides the deli for breakfast.
Finally got to break out the grey hoodie, it’s been too warm on the weekends til today. It’s really not a work item.
I love it under the collarless coppery Madewell jacket. I’m going with a 5/5. Go me.

MONDAY
I really like this rust top but it has fallen through the cracks ever since I bought it. I got it end of fall 2019 just as it got cold and it’s really not a cold-weather item, even under a cardigan. Then when it got warm enough in the spring of 2020, I was only working from home, and even when I came back to the office a couple days a week in June, it just seemed less casual than the other things I was wearing. So after like a year-and-a-half, I feel it’s finally going to hit its stride and get the attention it deserves.
First, The Color. You know I love a warm, spicy color. It’s my way of wearing COLOR without being so BRIGHT. Then it’s got that little ruffle detail on the button placket and (short sleeve) cuffs, and I’m really appreciating that small detail on a tailored item. It’s like, be a boy but make him in touch with his sensitive side.
Then the texture and feel. I guess sartorially, my love language is touch. I LOVE THE LITTLE RUFFLY DOTS. I don’t know what you call them but they’re sort of whimsical in a charming way, not in a cutesy way. And the fabric itself is lovely. Super lightweight, a rayon/poly blend…but it feels like nice velvet. So I touch myself a lot.
You know what I mean.
I hope you know what I mean.
I didn’t intend to write Ode to a Rust Blouse today, but…I don’t think I ever introduced it properly for the above reasons.
Moving on. I like the beigey-creams of the pants and cardigan with the rust. The thing that throws me off a bit is the chestnut tone of the shoes. I’m sort of over these shoes at this point anyway, but until a new better pair materializes in front of my eyes, they’re my only warm-toned flats. But the shoes bring this down to a 4.25/5. But I’m giving my hair a 5/5.
Rust Blouse: Loft, 3x. 2019
Cardigan: Old Navy, “Palomino” (stupid, 2x. 2017.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, stone wash, 22 short. 2015
Shoes: Kelly&Katie chestnut flats
TUESDAY
Am. Not. Feeling. It. Today. Was out last night, slept late this morning, didn’t have time to shower, haven’t ironed things I want to wear that need ironing, blah blah blah. Plus it was going to be warmer AND I was going to be outside taking pictures. All that adds up to: Wear Something Easy and Casual and Light.
It’s always nice to have a couple “default” outfits in your closet. Things that are easy and tried&true. For when you have zero mental or physical energy to put into outfit creation.
So this is not particularly creative or delightful BUT. It is EASY. 4/5
V-neck sweater: Cotton Emporium, 3x. 2018
White Tee: H&M, 3x. 2017
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, Frisco wash, 20 short. 2021

WEDNESDAY
THURSDAY
It takes real skill to take FIFTY PICTURES…and have my eyes open in four of them. With practice, you could be as good as I am someday.
So happy to get this button-down back from the dry cleaner. It’s not their fault I haven’t been able to wear it for like 12 weeks…it’s just been On The Pile.
The Pile is EXTREMELY comprehensive. It is * things for the laundromat * things for the dry cleaner * things to put away * things to donate * things to sell * things to burn.
It’s a big pile. It’s actually two piles. But when I had to get the extra button (AND BUTTONHOLE) added to yesterday’s chartreuse blouse, I grabbed this white blouse and my navy J Crew cropped length slacks (which have been on the pile for even longer than the white blouse) and dropped them off, too (several birds, one stone).
Back to the outfit (#queenofthetangent). First I put it on with the navy J Crew slacks (with the leopard flats) but…mmm…I think they shrunk jusssst slightly at the dry cleaner and the calfs (calves?) seemed even snugger than before…which makes the looser-fitting knee/thigh area sort of bunch up. I’m wondering if just that area can be let out. I looked at the seam allowance (look at me, knowing the sewing words) and there’s not much there. Anyway, it felt “not right” enough that I changed into these jeans.
And the grey cardigan. Always happy to wear this. And it was just cool/damp enough that I could wear it comfortably.
I wish I could find this exact sweater in other colors: navy (navy!), black, taupe, maybe a cream? It’s a lambswool blend so has a little “fiber” texture to it, yet is as lightweight and pliable as my cashmere sweaters.
Wow. Are there blogging awards? Surely I should be winning them with this “on the edge of your seat” content.
Button-down: Loft, 3x. 2020
Cardigan: Dean & White Woman, 2x. When the dinosaurs roamed.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, Scottsdale wash, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2021
FRIDAY
I still love this floral top five years later. But…I have a had time transitioning to “no layers” in the spring. I really only put this golden mustard hoodie over top cuz the “one and done” top was sorta bugging me. I like the linen blend hoodie in theory but it’s a little loosey-goosey for me these days.
It’s fine. The outfit is fine. I’ll give it a 4/5. That seems low after the rest of the week. Not so sure why. Oh well.
Floral Top: American Rag, 3x. 2016.
Linen Hoodie: Tahari, 3x. 2018.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, white, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Black Converse Shoreline slip-ons, 2021

Love the chartreuse top! Moving the buttons on the cuffs is super easy! Save the money just buy the color of thread you need and give it a try!

Yeah, I might try that one by myself. What do I do with all the “extra” fabric once it’s closing more snugly around my wrist? If I cut it off, I’ll need to hem it, right? So it doesn’t fray? This is when the tailor starts looking better and better to me.

First I love that you found a chartreuse top and it brightens up your face SO Much!! (although I love the rust one too…You should try the rust top under the yellow cardigan too…maybe too much color for you, but it certainly springifies it.
As for moving a button….that’s totally easy. No machine needed. I think it’s worth the attempt before you take it to the alterations (and I for one am ecstatic you found an alterations person who is good). That’s a project as you’re watching tv….easy multi tasking, LOL!!!

NOW I want a soft aqua v-neck sweater to wear over the chartreuse button-down. Why? Cuz I saw Kim Taehyung in a similar color combo (see here) with a vest over a buttondown, and it was gorgeous. Not a color combo you see done often (if ever?) but it was stunning.
The rust button-down with the ruffly bits under the loosey-goosey mustardy linen hoodie? Mm…color-wise, maybe. But style-wise, I don’t think so. I think SOME high contrast juxtapositions work well…(eg, dress with sneakers, lacy blouse under grungy plaid flannel hoodie, etc)…I don’t know that it *always* works. To me that combo would feel like, I was wearing the rust top and it got chilly and I happened to have the hoodie in the car so I threw it on for warmth. Maybe that’s just me. That hoodie is a little challenging cuz it’s so shapeless.
“I for one am ecstatic you found an alterations person who is good” – let’s not get crazy now, ha ha. They did One Thing. A button (AND BUTTONHOLE). That’s pretty straightforward. I have a pair of black slacks that need shortening to a cropped length, and that’s more subjective, so I need someone who understands current trends, not someone who can just do the technical work. Also, language challenge.
And lastly (ha ha, I’m a pita), SEW WHILE WATCHING A SHOW WITH SUBTITLES??? I would sew the cuff TO. MY. WRIST. I don’t do ANYTHING while watching tv. Cuz I have to really WATCH the tv. With my full eyesight and attention.
Rhonda
Depending on how much fabric you’re talking about, you could fold it under and sew the button on (through both layers)…cutting it off would entail a lot more work and one left to the pros for sure!đŸ˜‰

Hmm. That sounds a little bunchy/bulky to me. Maybe I’ll cut it, then just “hem” it with that iron-on hem tape stuff. Thanks!

I really like the rust/beige outfit, even with the chestnut flats, though it’s an outfit that screams leopard/cheetah print shoes to me. I 100% support NOT injuring yourself while watching TV with subtitles. (I can’t multi-task and follow TV at all.) The aqua + chartreuse color combination is interesting…but I think it’s hard to judge when it’s being worn by a person of such outrageous beauty.

You made me (excuse me, INFLUENCED ME) excitedly go to my closet to look at my leopard flats with the rust top. Mmm…maybe a different leopard. The rust top is very red leaning, while the shoes are more yellow leaning, it’s not really doing it for me. Maybe if I wore the rust top w black jeans/cardi, the black in the leopard shoes would tie in with that…OR, if I wore the rust top alone over medium wash jeans…I just don’t have any blue denim jeans in “low-vamp flats” length. Know what I mean? But it was a good thought, and I’ll see what can work with them next time.
Uh, excuse me though…what exactly are you saying here, “The aqua + chartreuse color combination is interesting…but I think it’s hard to judge when it’s being worn by a person of such outrageous beauty.” So…I’m not pretty enough to pull off that color combination?? Is that what you’re saying? I feel like that’s what you’re saying. Taehyung can pull it off because he’s so stunning, he can wear ANYTHING. But me?? Not so much?
HA HA I’m joking. That made me laugh so hard when I read it. It’s true though. Beautiful people can get away with so many more things. Sigh. How do you think it FEELS? To be So Beautiful that…people just want to give you things and do things for you, and LET you do things…and accept your peculiarities. Just because of these features you were BORN with, that really have Nothing to do with who you are. Such a weird thing.
