Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ Aug 21-27
SATURDAY
Hot. Drizzly. Earache. Main goal in life is getting breakfast sandwich from the deli and then staying on sofa all day.
I think I’m dressed appropriately.
Dress: Junarose, 22. 2017.
Linen Shirt: J Jill, 4x. 2019. Some colors and sizes available at QVC.
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021
SUNDAY
Pass.
MONDAY
Is it a normal day? I think it’s a normal day. It’s raining. But I don’t need easy access for the first time in what seems like weeks.
I thought it was cooler out, based on the grey darkness I saw through the windows, but actually it’s that hot steamy rain. But I’m headed to the air-conditioned office so…I’ll survive in a lightweight cardigan.
Top: Bobeau, 3x. 2018
Cardigan: Old Navy, 2018. 2x. Similar.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021
TUESDAY
Okay. What else can I say about this dress that I have worn no less then 7,286 times in the past 4 years?? It’s always a delight to wear. I can wear it to work, to cocktails on the beach, on a date (if THAT was a thing), to pee in the street. It is extremely versatile and easy to wear.
What do I like about it? The loose, easy fit. The “colorful but not overpowering” print. The lightweight, cloud-like rayon fabric. The not-too-much angel sleeves. The floatiness of it.
I wish a dress like this upon everyone 🙂
Dress: Junarose, 22. 2017.
Sneakers: Keds Champions. 2021
WEDNESDAY
If both items were shorter, I’d be happier. The dress needs like 2″ off…and the shirt like 6″ off.
Dress: Asos, 22. 2016
Button-down: Old Navy, 3x. 2020
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021
THURSDAY
Okay, THIS is a better shirt length. It JUST covers my lower belly, but it doesn’t cut my legs off, which is a much more pleasing proportion than the shirt above.
The challenge is that MOST plus-size clothing items, as they get larger, they get LONGER. Which makes sense cuz most fat people are 6′ tall.
AHEM.
I’m large HORIZONTALLY, not VERTICALLY. Just make the clothes WIDE, not TALL. Sheesh.
Button-down: Madewell boyfriend shirt, 3x. 2019
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Navy Converse Shoreline slip-ons. 2021
FRIDAY
AS I WRITE THIS….I AM ON VACATION!!!! I think I’ll stay in my nightgown for the next five days.
Not really. But I’d LIKE to.
Dress: Old Navy, 3x. 2019
Sneakers: Keds Champions. 2021

I’ve been trying to pay more attention to proportions lately. I just could never figure it out earlier when I’d hear about it. Sometimes, I think it’s easier to see in the photo as opposed to real-life (at least for me).
So when I compare the Wednesday and Thursday outfits, wouldn’t the Wed. one be that more flattering 1/3 to 2/3. Even though the shirt is longer, it covers 2/3 of the dress. Whereas the Thurs outfit is more 1/2 and 1/2.
So I figure I’m seeing it wrong then????
I think you should come up with a song about your beloved Junarose dress since when you talk about it, you can feel the love coming out!!!
And that yellow dress?? It’s my favorite!!!

Remember that a 1/3:2/3 proportion can work two different ways: 1/3 on top w 2/3 on the bottom…or 2/3 on the top w 1/3 on the bottom. Everyone’s body and style goals are different, but for me, if I can make my legs look longer than my torso, I’m happy. So the bottom half has to be the longer/taller part and the top half the shorter part (even when, in this case, that’s just relatively speaking).
Nothing is totally black and white, so what you’re saying is more of a 50/50 ratio (the yellow stripe shirt over the jeans) is about as close as I can get to a shorter item on top BECAUSE if I go EVEN shorter on the top, then the “long leg” look is broken up by the big belly look…and then I’m NOT happy.
“Rules” are hard to abide by as there are usually more things to consider than just the elements being covered by the rule…and you just have to prioritize which things are most important to you – and that might change outfit by outfit or situation to situation.
I’ll do a whole post on this soon…when I can get enough pictures to cover all the points I want to make.
