It’s the third (??) week of fall but it’s Not Quite Sweater Weather. I pushed the envelope a couple days, but…

SATURDAY

I SWEAR I had clothes on.

SUNDAY

An outfit as old as time. Jeans and a button-down.

I wish I could find this same button-down in different colors. It’s SUCH a nice woven fabric – a cotton rayon blend. So it’s got the body of a woven cotton and the pliability of a rayon. The fit is good – wide and short…and the collar tabs small. I keep checking back at Madewell for a clone but so far…no luck.

Button-down: Madewell, 3x. 2020. Comparable.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda, 20 short. 2021
Sandals: Birkenstock Arizona, 2020

MONDAY

Well, THIS was a mistake. It’s LOVELY, I’m very pleased with the look and vibe, but it is DIS. KUS. TING outside. Drizzly and HUMID.

AND I have ton of crap in my car to lug back into the school…AND I dropped my keys neveragaintobeseen when trying to grab some things that fell out of the car when I opened the hatch so had to crawl around on the wet pavement to retrieve them…AND I left my car windows open last night (not “cracked” open but WIDE open, in the ongoing attempt to air out the moldy wet dog smell from all the leaky time), so the interior itself was damp and steamy and UGH. Not a good start to the day.

So, a sweater as a second layer? Sigh.

Anyway, negativity aside (cuz that’s how my brain works: negativity first, positive second), I am SO pleased with this sweater. I’ve been looking for a mid-grey v-neck pullover for So Long…and this one does not disappoint. It’s the sister to last week’s vague foggy taupey brown cashmere v-neck.

I can’t WAIT to wear this over khaki pants. Or BROWN. Oh dear god. Mid-grey and BROWN. All my color dreams are finally coming true.

TUESDAY

Ooohhh, me like. Ha ha. I’ll get to the one (well, two) thing(s) I don’t like in a moment but…LOOKIT ME, LEADING WITH THE POSITIVE!!!

I like the Overall Vibe and Palette. It’s autumnal but it’s a little cool. I really do like the shirt. This is my first all-day wearing of it out in the world and it gets the thumbs up from me. It’s more of a brushed cotton than a flannel. It’s very thin, soft, and pliable. I really like the colors. I can go warmer with it by putting it under a chestnut or rust sweater, but it can also be happy with this cool taupe or I think even a grey sweater. Do I have a dark grey v-neck? And if not, why?

One complaint is this sweater is just Too Big. I can just barely reach the pockets and I’m just sort of over the longer cardigans. This isn’t even supposed to be a duster length, but I’m so short that…oh well. I’m not letting it go cuz it’s such a useful color in my wardrobe but by next year it may need a replacement.

The other thing is…well, sort of a teachable moment. I talk a lot about colors and how it’s not so much what the COLOR is, as what the UNDERTONE is (or, the temperature). The cardigan is taupe. The loafers are also taupe. But look how different the undertones are. The cardigan is much cooler/greyer, while the loafers are more yellow-toned. On their own, they’re both clearly taupe…but when you see them together (“everything is relative”), they are significantly different. I saw it when I got dressed this morning but I just didn’t have a better option so I went with it, but…

WEDNESDAY

I may or may not have been waiting impatiently since last winter to wear this combination again. It has a very small window – cool enough temps to not die from hyperthermia in a flannel shirt, but not so cool that I can’t go out with bare legs.

Love the casualness of the plaid flannel with the dressiness of the…uhm…dress. And sneakers. Forevermore.

I never would have thought that I would become a sneaker-head, but…I’m moving in that direction. I have almost as many sneakers on my Shoptagr (which has a new name but I can’t be expected to keep up with world things like that) list as actual CLOTHING.

Plaid Flannel: BP/Nordstrom, 4x. 2019. Comparable.

THURSDAY

Holding onto summery navy and white. I do love wearing this navy/white striped tee from Old Navy. I just love the way it feels. Thin, slinky (without being slippery), stretchy. All my favorites.

Got to work and my coffee cup defiantly dribbled coffee all down my front. Tide-to-go partially saved the day.

Would I like golden yellow sneakers with this outfit? Maybe. I’m trying to decide if the golden yellow sneakers I’ve longed for for almost three years now (I’m a little slow to pull the trigger on things) are really warranted.

I really need to do the seasonal “what’s in my closet, what should stay, what should go, what are the holes that need to be filled” thing.

I’ll put it on the list.

Off the top of my head I feel like most of the “holes” are in the shoe/outerwear category.

FRIDAY

This is my I’M GOING TO SEE BTS IN NOVEMBER outfit of the day. Sorry, there may be a lot of that going forward.

Seemed an ideal day for a favorite dress. I’m just Octobering it up a bit with a lightweight cardigan.

Dress: Junarose, 22. 2017
Cardigan: Old Navy, 2x. 2018
Sneakers: Keds Champions. 2021

Alrighty. There will be no OOTD post next Saturday. I’m taking some time off. I’ll explain further in Monday’s post.
