How can you tell that summer is over??
How can you tell that summer is over??
My vacation week is quickly coming to an end…but I had a very full, fun, productive and anxiety-free week, which I really needed.
I started the week having to say goodbye to my baby…again, boo hoo. Our visits our so short and so far between. I won’t see her again til Thanksgiving, when we’ll both go to my sister’s house in South Carolina.
I had a beach day with my bestie. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve gone to the beach for realz. Last year was just…no. I almost didn’t go this day due to stupid anxiety, but I powered through and had a great day.
I didn’t do #ootd this week because, really, this dress below and the bathing suit above were what I wore almost every day. Kept it simple and cool.
Photographed some plus size items to list on ebay. I’ll post a link to my shop when they’re up.
I hadn’t planned to go to see fireworks (cuz traffic people walking) but as I was driving around Wednesday afternoon looking for pictures for my @NorthportEveryDay Instagram account I noticed a bunch of cars parked along a road where usually no one parks. Then I noticed people sitting in lawn chairs. Hmm. I quickly googled “fireworks in Northport” and sure enough, there was to be a local fireworks display and the locals knew where to park for the view but to avoid the crowds and traffic. I was in! I always have my beach chair in the car and I had my camera, iced tea and a book cuz I was planning on sitting in the park for sunset…so I just set up camp with the other people and waited for it to get dark. It was nice, no annoying bugs, just charming fireflies, I listened to people chatting, we enjoyed cooling breezes off the Sound, it was a lovely evening.
Of course, afterwards, there was a long line of traffic waiting to get out on the one lane road. I just sat in my car playing Words with Friends til the road was clear 🙂
The next day, back to the beach. Looks kinda like the desert til you get past the dunes.
That’s a hard job.
Friday we went to a lavender farm. You’ll see more pictures in this week’s blog post.
Made all the obligatory “out east” stops and took the corresponding pictures – farm stands, beaches, shacks, flowers, gnomes, etc.
Stopped on the way home for dessert (she had apple crumb pie and I had almond cream pie, yum) and mashed turnips to go, cuz they’re supposed to be the best!
My daughter used to make fun of the things I brought home from thrift stores (like 60s silver clutch purses) in my ebay days…now she wears them out. Mm-hmm.
I got myself flowers.
And that, my friends, was my wonderful vacation week. Now I have to get ready to go to a wake (sadness) and start to prepare for the work week ahead.
Hope you all had a nice week! xoxo
FINALLY. I feel like it was just snowing a few weeks ago…and now it’s officially SUMMER. Do you have your summer wardrobe all sorted out? I mostly do…I have my warm-weather wardrobe staples, so now it’s time for a wild card or two!
As much as we may plan to have a our closet filled with items that mix and match for optimal “outfitting,” it’s fun to have a couple items that are just fun, even if they’re just a one-hit-wonder.
This top is like that for me. It really doesn’t mix and match with anything in my closet – it goes over white jeans or blue jeans. Period. But I feel like I’m wearing an outfit-and-a-half when I wear it, it’s Just That Fun!
It’s swishy, swirly, lightweight and PINK. Not my usual M.O. But it’s good when you want to feel summery and festive.
This is a Gwynnie Bee rental item. GB is great for those outlier items that add a little dash to your usual wardrobe without having to add another item to your closet…or your credit card bill. This is not a sponsored post, I just have so much fun with my Gwynnie Bee subscription, I want to share it! If you use my link here, you can get a one-month free trial! AND Gwynnie Bee now carries straight sizes, too!
This top is Andree by Unit “Sharkbite Hem Embroidered Coral Top.” Such a fancy name!
What’s your favorite fun fashion splurge for summer??
Thanks to my buddy Linda for the great pictures!

We took the dogs to a favorite spot with little marshy inlet on one side…
And the large Long Island Sound on the other.
Poor baby horseshoe crab.
The next day we went hunting for a large sunflower field for a photo shoot but all we found was a small patch in a very busy area. Not quite right.
That’s the Bettye of sunflowers, standing off by herself.
We did stop at a horse rescue farm and admired the kids.
We found some crazy hairy cows. They’re Scottish somethings. Their coats are certainly not suited to humid Long Island weather, I’m not sure why they’re here.
We happened upon some little secret places where we were able to sit by ourselves and just enoy the sound of the water. There was definitely more tidal action while Hermine was off the coast of Long Island, even though we never actually got the storm.
Monday was my birthday and I spent the afternoon with my daughter just exploring around. I love just driving around and turning down new roads to see what’s there. Sometimes you’re surprised with something wonderful, you never know.
She treated me to dinner. We got churros to take home…and little magic dolls to sleep with under pillows to take away bad things. Or something like that.
We saw a bit of rainbow…
…and a mermaid…
…and a lovely sunset.
The next day I went back to work after a week’s vacation. Yeah, you know how that is.
I did wear the same dress to work all week, that was sort of sneaky fun. Guess I should wear something different this week ahead!
And now it’s September, no long vacations til Christmas and the days are getting shorter SO quickly, I hate when that happens. There’s less “outdoor” time and that’s what rejuvenates me. So while people all around me are rejoicing YAY FALL IS COMING, it’s a little bittersweet to me. Yes, fall is lovely…but it’s so hard to give up summer.
What do *you* do to refresh and re-energize yourself?
