Since I was on the last legs of my vacation and I didn’t leave the house once all weekend (not even for deli breakfast), my nightgown and I never parted ways…so. Yeah. Let’s just start with Monday when I actually put on clothes and left the house.

MONDAY 1.3.22

We had a very mild autumn, but winter might have finally found us. Low 30s today and threat of snow on the eastern end of Long Island. I’m hoping it doesn’t reach me as navigating the hills where I live in the snow is just too anxiety-producing for my fragile heart.

BUT I’m dressed seasonally appropriate for once. I even wore an actual COAT! Ha. Soft cotton poncho turtleneck from Loft over silky long sleeved tee from Old Navy (the new “wear under everything” tee).

The looseness of the sweater is much appreciated as I’m wearing jeans I haven’t worn since the laundromat. I indulged myself that day and actually put jeans in the dryer to dry. As much as I can, I avoid putting things in the dryer, but without a washer/dryer at home, this is challenging as I have to lug wet, heavy things home from the laundromat, find enough places to hang them to dry, then iron them when they’re finally dry cuz air-dried jeans are so stiff.

So I allowed myself the luxury just this once of bypassing all that by just putting everything in the dryer at the laundromat…and BOY did stuff shrink! Ha. My jeans are all dryer virgins so they REALLY sucked up that high heat hot air…and I could just BARELY get them buttoned this morning and the muffin top is real. SO…grateful for a loose sweater 🙂

TUESDAY 1.4.22

Oh dear. Today is All the Dissatisfactions.

I sense you are not shocked.

At least I’m consistent.

I really wanted to wear my black turtleneck…but I can’t find it. I SWEAR I want to own like three pieces of clothing so it’s easier to keep track of my wardrobe. Anyway. The “little too small” grey cashmere turtleneck was the closest approximation I could get (I just wanted something dark and up on my neck).

Then I WANTED to wear my black jeans but when I picked them up I was like oh. Wait. I wore these yesterday. Which would not have been the end of the world. Who would know? Or care?

But…I pulled out the darkest blue jeans instead. Which…BLUE. JEANS. I’m just not feeling them right now. AND…these are the winter/weekend jeans, the baggier/longer ones. Which is nice in the waistband dept, especially after yesterday in the OH MY GOD THEY SHRUNK SO MUCH black jeans, but…the length. Ugh.

Throw a red shirt over it all and call it a day.

The End

PS: These are my $6.95 glasses, ha ha ha. I love them but they’re pretty flimsy.

WEDNESDAY 1.5.22

I always forget I have this cream shaker knit sweater. My “bulky” sweaters all live in a different location. They would take up too much drawer space, so they go on hangers, but because they can’t be hung normally on hangers (the dreaded shoulder stretch-out) they get folded in half and laid across the bottom bar of the hanger…which makes them DOUBLE thickness and so take up a LOT of room in the closet, so they’re on a further back rack, not up-front with my other clothes. And I forget they’re back there.

Am I the only one who has ridiculously long explanations for EVERYTHING? Nothing is ever just a simple explanation. It’s easier to just avoid engaging altogether.

ANYWAY. I like the sweater. And I like it with this plaid button-down, which pleases me, as I’ve been a little at odds with this shirt since I got it. I’ve worn it with a couple different things and nothing seemed Quite Right (remember how it was too matchy-matchy with the mauve cardigan? and the creamy white in the plaid did not play nicely over my white white tee). But I like this. It all feels a little bulky, cuz the sweater is thicker than I usually wear, and the shirt is oversized…so it’s just a lot of fabric on my arms. But it’s all bendy fabric, not stiff, so.

PHEW.

This jacket owes me NUTH. THING. I have worn it to DEATH. And then brought it back and wore it some more. It’s seven years old, the sleeves are pretty dingey…but I have never had a jacket that was this comfortable and practical. It was a gift from He Who Ghosted Me cuz I never had a suitable winter jacket, ha ha. And that’s when I still had Caleb and we were out and about every day, traipsing through the woods or walking at the beach. Aka In The Cold.

It’s filled with Primaloft, which is a vegan down alternative and super lightweight, bendy, thin and WARM. Not sure what compelled me to get an ORANGE jacket as my One Jacket (at the time), but…whatever 🙂 I think every year Land’s End has a new iteration of this, but it’s essentially the same jacket. And every year I think I should get a new one but…why.

THURSDAY 1.6.22

I allowed myself the treat of wearing the black pants twice in the same week.

I spoil myself, I really do.

I thought I had come across a pair OLD black jeans that were one size larger and boy would they be comfortable right about now…but now I don’t see them. There must be a hole on the closet floor cuz so many things are going missing.

Nothing too exciting. Black plaid flannel over white tee and under brown cardigan. I do always really like this chocolatey cardigan with the black jeans.

BROWN AND BLACK DO GO! Ha.

I just had to berate a lovely young TikToker who was saying NO to black and navy and to wear navy and grey or khaki instead…I was like NOOOO!!! BLACK AND NAVY SO CHIC TOGETHER! Plus…stop limiting people on what they’re “allowed” to wear. I didn’t actually SAY that last part, but I thought it.

FRIDAY 1.7.22

Remote Snowish Day = NIGHTGOWN ALL DAY. I will DESCRIBE the loveliness to you but…

5-year-old pastel striped woven cotton sleeveless knee-length nightgown. Over that, I wear that asymmetrical hem grey turtleneck from Ava&Viv/Target that I’ve been wearing for like 10 years but I’m over asymmetric hems so now it’s part of my “winter sleepwear” look. If it gets REALLY cold then I put a stretched-out pink chenille crewneck sweater over the other two things. Falling apart leopard print Vionic slippers that my sister gave me in 2017. They’re not FALLING APART falling apart, but there are holes in the leopard outer fabric.

Plus, currently, there is a big blob of flour on the dark grey turtleneck cuz I’m a messy cook and made scallion pancakes for lunch.

I’m not sharing a picture.

You’re welcome.

But this is EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Until it gets too warm for the turtleneck, then it’s just the cotton nightgown.

I’m always amazed when I see people’s sleepwear drawers and they’re stuffed full of So Many Pajamas. TOPS I’ll have two things – a winter thing and a summer thing.

And I DID just buy a cute “sleepwear” pajama set from Old Navy for when I’m traveling and want to get out of Real Clothes but am NOT leaving my room in front of PEOPLE in this old nightgown. But I’M SAVING THEM FOR GOOD ha ha so they’ll continue to be appropriate for visiting.

Nightgown: Adonna/JC Penney, 3x. 2018. Same nightgown, different color.
Turtleneck: Ava&Viv/Target 3x. 2012
Pink Crewneck: Charlotte Russe, 3x. 2018
Slippers: Vionic, 2017
Pajama Pants: Old Navy, 3x. 2021
Pajama Top: Old Navy, 3x. 2021

I’m going to try something a little different in the coming week and see how it goes. You’ll know it when you see it. I’m hoping it will be easier on all of us.
